Yup. First real breakup I've been through happened a month ago. This is going to be my anthem. I still love her. But now I don't have her showing up anywhere I can see it easily. I refuse to mope in my own self pity. I refuse to be one stagnant. I refuse to put my entire life on hold because I'm sad. Fuck that. You will see me.
This is one of those rare songs which just flawlessly captures and expresses a significant part of the human experience, at the individual and collective level - CASUALLY.
This song was my salvation ~ 5 years ago it pushed me passed pain and into inspired negativity ~ angry success. In my rejection, dropped by a careless man, I applied to grad school in another country. 5 years later I have a Master's degree. A kind husband. A cozy home. And still I'm brimming with ambition. This song woke something in me back then. And it keeps burning today.

This is not a broken heart. This is a letter from a man to the boy he was. A promise for change. To not be what the environment created you to be, but to be the true self.
This is far too amazing to only have this many views and exposure. I come back to this piece of art regularly because it's so momentously powerful and inspiring. Thank you Dan and Pip, this is still one of my favorite works. Hope you are well.
This is still one of the most powerful songs made in my adult lifetime, and the video is awesome. Returning here ever so often, usually playing video a handful of times.
I have had pain from my past that lead me to alcoholism. I had a room mate that I have told him about me problems. I asked if he could help me, and motivate me. But he didn't . He spoke with the other room mates that were there and he writen a letter saying if I don't change my ways then "there will be serious consequences" he says. And this song has, today and so often, reminded me not to give up, and to always get *back* up when I stumble.

This is the most inspiring thing ive heard in a long time. I play this every time I start to feel discouraged and it ignites something in me. Thank you for this.
Try his songs "Introdiction" and "Thou Shalt Always Kill" just as leads to his other works. Though he has not released music recently as he is focused on his podcasting at the moment. I hope he returns to releasing music in the future but atleast we have the gems he has released to be going on with.
Erm if you have gone through so many break ups in that short period of time then the problem maybe you so take a look at yourself. This is not an insult or attack but talking from personal experience, and only after looking more closely at myself and making changes did I meet my current partner of over 20 years. It wasn't changing my core self but noticing the peripheral things and changing them that made me able to accept such a commitment.
No... This made me change my life when I first heard it... I was going through something that this almost word for word described and watched memories pass by my eyes...
It’s far too involved to be played in the background of a tv show or edited down for the radio. But mostly it isn’t shit enough to be pushed into popularity.
This is the second break up this song has gotten me through. The first was hard. This one is harder this one was my soul mate. My inspiration... My muse.... And I mean that not as a compliment
I do miss pips music career. I feel he never got the chance to shine that he truly deserved. I’m glad he’s found a place in acting and podcasts, but it truly is musics loss
The thing I love about this song is that it paints a portrait of an outcast or outlier being empowered to improve themselves. Then it magnifies it by a thousand and he becomes Hitler almost effortlessly.
Is wanton slaughter evil? Of course. But acting like a man that casts away the chains of rules, and possibilities isn't inherently evil but if they do decide to be evil it's catastrophic, and if good it's the greatest thing ever and marks a golden age, conquerors are dangerous, and risky because their gods among men humans with limitless potential. And to the common man that's too risky
I think the "lay waste by land air and sea" bit is more metaphorical he's saying he'll do absolutely anything that he no longer cares for repercussions simply results simply the goal like I said dangerous but not evil
Alas, the sovereign... Self, individual, confusing, trouble, the weight on the shoulders, the antagony being truly ones on agony, the irony in the mirror image, the show coming to a stand still, the pause in your speech, the smirk on my face when teased towards getting into an argument, the baseness in real, the building block that was there, is here and there before... The one plus one, the sum, what is and what's what, the beginning and the end, the only thing, the everything... ETC. P.S. Did you catch my drift. Did you see? Its what is real and the simple 'to be' portion when questioned with what is the action to be taken, thus "to be or not to be" that is tha question. Coincidentally... Sincerely and with politeness, Mr. A. L. Hudson
What amazing poetry! The words added to the powerful vignette that is the video, creates something I can't look away from. This transcends a musical genre into a fulfilling piece of art. Any outcast, broken hearted, Artistic, and/or thoughtful person will find meaning in these lyrics! ... And how can so many see this without liking it?
This! This is it, the purest form of inspiration! I’ve listened to this for the best part of a decade. Still hits the same! Harder then anything before. Glad to have you back my friend
for many people this reminds them of an ex... in my case it was a family member who tried to make me believe that I couldn't achieve anything worthwile and that her way was the only right one... in the end she decided to embrace cancer rather than live to see her children prove her wrong.
In 4 days we should celebrate 17 years from our wedding which was on 07.07.07. Now instead of celebrating, I am looking for a rent, a place to live until divorcing will be finished. Heartbroken for my two kids and this song becames more and more my personal anthem.
how does this song have so few views? It's really not the genre I would listen to on my own, but even I can tell this is a rare piece of art. i know i'm super late to this party, but thanks for making this song.
He introduced me to this genre, Introdiction was the first one I heard of his. Then luck would have it he had a show on the radio and I nevr missed one. He is brilliant.
The anthem of all those who got a bit too sick of being misunderstood, trivialized, unappreciated and dismissed by people who "love" them or are "family"
‘Hey, we love you and all that but can you just stop doing all the things that make up your personality and pretend to be someone else so it’s easier for us please?’ ‘How about I become the most me that’s ever existed?’
Welcome and have fun listening to more of his music. He is the one who got me into this genre. I wouldn't have bothered with it if I hadn't heard "Introdiction" on the radio. Then he had a radio show and introduced me to more. Something I will always be grateful for.
to be honest, i think there is a strong irony in the song. it's not about empowerment. it's about the vicious cycle, when the abused one turns into an abuser. it paints the psychological background of wishing to dominate others, since the own will has been broken.
Depending how you interpret it, I think it could be either... I'm not sure what he intended it to mean, although it could possibly still represent something else, I suppose, regardless of the conscious intention... Anyway, if you think about it, you do kinda get power by becoming an abuser, so it technically could still be about empowerment regardless... Although I don't think it's the type of empowerment we should want... I'd also add that wanting to or being better than someone doesn't necessarily end in the abuse of those they wish to surpass.
I find it to be more about victory through adversity about getting knocked down and saying fuck that Ima win I'm gonna do what I want when I want and idgaf bout what anyone has to say because I'm me
The way I see it, the narrator is definitely NOT the good guy. He has ambition and drive, yes, but his sole motivation as presented through the lyrics is revenge; he holds resentment toward a person from his past which he cannot let go of and that becomes his sole motivator. If he loses that resentment he has nothing to hold him in the present. But no one can build a life based on resentment alone, which is why he is doomed to either failure, misery or both. Basically, don't just do stuff. Do stuff for the right reason.
To me it speaks of pain and bitterness, but also of resilience and a determination born from that pain. It's a moment after a very hard period of time when you've been emotionally crushed when suddenly you say "y'know what.. No. I wont let this ruin me. I will recover stronger than you could ever have imagined". I think it's that very first moment of recovery, so of course the bitterness exists but will fade with time leading to a stronger person... but as all good lyrics/poetry, people can take different things from it and interpret it in different ways. It's so damned powerful.
@@michaeloconnor2430 Though its obviously open to interpretation, in my view its about depression, self loathing and suicidality. You can spend a long time building these emotions into your character, like a toxic partner that whispers its making you smarter and stronger but in reality does nothing but hold you back and hurt you. And one day that same pain will help you build the thing you're most proud of. It is a part of you, but it doesn't have to be all of you. And one day 'you will see me' and every moment that depression told you you couldn't achieve might come to pass. The author may never achieve actual happiness, but thats not the only victory you can win.

She manipulated and abused me, and this song was behind my drive to achieve whatever I could do to not only move away from her, but to make her irrelevant in my life. The scars will remain but they're diminishing, and the harm she did is becoming more and more remote.
You are my new inspiration...
My muse
And I mean that not as a compliment

As I stand here alone, I declare I was not a loan
To be picked up and dropped off at a later date
And you barely even made my spine bend
Just skimmed through some of the interesting bits then skipped to the end
The notes you left in my margins turned from scribbles to scars
But here's the best part:
You didn't even realise you were reading the first draft of a best seller
The manuscript of a future Nobel prize winner
This book you discarded as a pamphlet will ignite shit
I will write ten times harder than before
I will create art, I will create beauty
I will create so many things that you can't ignore
But I will not do them in your name
I will not shout you from the roof tops
I will tap your name out in morse code on my outer thigh
As I casually accept plaudits from on high
I will not to try to win you back
I do not want you back
I just want to show you
I just need to show you what you fucking walked away from
I will achieve all my goals ten-fold
I will achieve your goals too, casually
I will have happiness and joy in my life
I will fall in love; husband, child and wife
I will shine brighter than I could ever have dreamed to be
And you will see me
And you will see. Me
I will make rivers run red in your anonymity
The screams of nations will echo our affinity
My wrath will be relentless
My path of destruction will be momentously momentous
I will change the face of history and paint it in my likeness
And I will like this
I will destroy everything that you hold dear
By simply destroying everything far and near
My footsteps will be impossible not to hear
I will watch you from afar and taste each tear
I will wipe out entire races
I will erase faces and displace with great haste and no graces
This world will become my plaything
Embracing my ways and then just breaking
I will burn this entire world to the ground
I will leave a mark greater than any have ever left before
I will lay waste by land, air and sea
And you will see me
And you. Will see. Me

Its what happens when you break someone at their very core. They lose all love for themselves and by extension, everything else.

Im so glad i found you this is art and i love it take care of yourself pip
recently found this guy and all I can say is WOW .... AMAZING
Welcome and have fun listening to more of his music. He is the one who got me into this genre. I wouldn't have bothered with it if I hadn't heard "Introdiction" on the radio.
Then he had a radio show and introduced me to more. Something I will always be grateful for.
Love Scroobius Pip. This, like his other poetry/songs is so incredible. This moved me.
😂😂never been this angry over some bird or any person..
Life is agonizing on it's own, raging against that I can understand.
to be honest, i think there is a strong irony in the song. it's not about empowerment. it's about the vicious cycle, when the abused one turns into an abuser. it paints the psychological background of wishing to dominate others, since the own will has been broken.
I find it to be more about victory through adversity about getting knocked down and saying fuck that Ima win I'm gonna do what I want when I want and idgaf bout what anyone has to say because I'm me
To me it's essentially being human universe hits you, you hit back
The way I see it, the narrator is definitely NOT the good guy.
Love the lyrics, the video, everything! Pip's the best
still wonderful in 2024
Maturity is realising this was never about a person
If it was about a break up, he is still hurt.
Plz explain Fred.
@@frankiefrank6850 " As I stand here alone, I declare I was not a loan
To be picked up and dropped off at a later date
And you barely even made my spine bend
Just skimmed through some of the interesting bits then skipped to the end
The notes you left in my margins turned from scribbles to scars
But here's the best part:
You didn't even realise you were reading the first draft of a best seller
The manuscript of a future Nobel prize winner"
I feel like he was most definitely talking to someone. Basically telling someone you just used me, had some fun then dropped me off like I was nothing. I get what you're saying, but some of it, no matter how much I listen to it feels like it couldn't be interpreted any other way. Pretty much plain as day.
"This book you discarded as a pamphlet will ignite shit"
@@frankiefrank6850 idk. Obviously only he knows what he's talking about. All we can do is interpret. And I believe some of what we hear is really that cut and dry and not as complex as people try and make it seem.
When he slides his arms out of the suspenders 🔥Shooketh
Yeappppp
This song is like the mind of a vulnerable narcassist.
or someone who was a victim of divorce in the depth of formative years (mid teens)
@@jtwee6590 Only to be divorced later on in life
Or someone damaged by a narcissist…
Powerful stuff. It's just crazy intense.
What a poetic fucking genius
I wish I could have done anything this epic dude did, no matter land air or sea
