I'm a Bassist with 30+yrs. experience I just picked up an electric kit because I can find no drummers who share my passion and dedication and I write my own songs. I must say WOW bro, love your approach to teaching how and WHAT to practice it mirrors my own EXACTLY when it comes to my Bass. I have watched several of your videos and have learned so much already. and my music sounds so much tighter because I know precisely what I want to play and you are showing me how. It's gonna be awesome! MUCHAS GRACIAS Y TE BENDIGA mi Hermano en CRISTO
As a total beginner, playing at different dynamics is really challenging, especially the feet. The ghost note explanation was really helpful, nobody else I've watched has explained that! I'm glad you take the time to explain everything properly, regardless of what others may say.
I NEVER comment on any youtube videos EVER. I need to say that you are the only online "teacher" that actually really helps. Thank you for everything!!
I can't wait to dig into this PDF. After watching your vids for months, you've REALLY set my path for drumming success. I just started 9 months ago and have already reached one of my early goals...play in the PRAISE BAND!! Politics/Personalities drove me away, as the guitarist. But now, "they" are all gone and the "band" was just a pianist and a bassist. The leader(pianist) asked if I played the drums...I answered, KINDA! So, now I have a great responsibility that I don't take lightly. I took it for granted when I played guitar for the band, But now, I take it more seriously and practice like I NEVER did before. This latest PDF will be my guide! Thanks for always being a couple of clicks away.
Just bought my first drum kit at 53, a complete beginnerarn and learning to play, your vids have been invaluable from setting up my kit to learning the basics and now avoiding bad habits before they even start. . . . Thank you!! 😊 another one i can tick off my bucket list. . . .well almost 😉
yep guilty as charged, i put my hands up for too many bands and subsequently end up spending all of my practice time learning new songs. What I really need right now is more fluency and speed in my hihat 16th's for those funky tunes.....so Moeller is top of my list. Thanks
Yup! When learned as a kid I taught myself & never really learned fundamentals. I've had people ask me if I could teach them how to play & sadly I'd have to tell them no, I can't.
I struggled figuring out proper match grip technique, partly because I have a numb finger tip on my right hand and after a year of it "feeling wrong" I found this was one of the reasons it didnt feel right. Lately ive been working on what ive found out to be the correct position to hold my hands for my matched, and I had an aha moment when I realized the hand position for a proper jump shot in basketball is the same position for proper match technique, at least the matched type Im going for, but when I realized I just had told hold both hands as if they were my shooting hand on the ball I instantly had perfect dynamic control and feel. This brought my confidence way up, and therefore my playing. If someone woulda told me that, just think your doin triple threat on the ball the way your shooting hand squares up to shoot straight, of course the fingers are different but the shooting motion also utilizes the flick of the wrist as do the drums.. this connection was like taking something ive already put my 10 thousand hours into and injecting it into my drumming. If youve been trained how to shoot and do triple threat in basketball give the wrist position from your shooting a shot! It really helped me.
I think playing slow is actually harder than playing fast. You need to be more accurate and disciplined. There's always a tendency to speed up. Making a slow beat really groove is challenging because it highlights your inconsistencies and any looseness or sloppiness is immediately shown up.
I play metal i can play solid 16th on 140 and after 180bpm but 155 to 165 bpm kills me so for metal idk there is a threshold where you have to switch muscle groups amd there is no way to do so at slow tempos
Put the video on 2x speed. Use a browser extension on laptop/PC to speed it up faster. Put on subtitles. He’s taking the time to create the videos for players of every level. Things need to be explained fully to get his point across to everyone.

I recommend checking out Josh Merhar's channel, too. He also, is an exellent teacher.

I agree I spend more time learning songs over working on skills. Need more balance in practice time

Welcome to the club. Bought my first kit at 45, 4 years ago.
I was 66! Welcome to the grand obsession!
Cool, I just bought my 1st drum set at 54, total beginner. I'll be starting next week. Great videos and advice.
I love that not only do you give greate advices, but you are also so motivating :)
Thank you! Loved the absence of cuts and the length of the lesson!
Guilty on all 5 thanks for the direction. Starting changes right after I play this song I like. Cheers
I don't always agree with all of your videos, but on this one I agree 100% with every point you made. Great video!
Thanks, Stephen. I'm getting back to it after a long break and really want to start fresh. This lesson is perfect: clear, concise guidelines. 👌
Thank you for very clear instructions. Pro teacher!

Definitely guilty of a couple need to work on my fundamentals and quit just trying to play a song

Yes so useful Tips for practice on my own Big like & Thanks to you Stephen 👌🥁👍

Fantastic Video Stephen 👌🙏🏼🤩 Guilty of all 5 😅 especially number 5 ☺
Thank you Steph…
Guilty as charged, but I’m on it! Josie
Man you are awesome
Nice... will check to avoid these...

Not me, never😂. Guilty as charged!
So hard to play slow - you think you can play fast and sometimes it feels easier.
Different volumes? No problem, just turn the knob on the volume. No just joking, I play electric and acoustic.
👍but too long for me...
Never understood why some drummers play so loud live if they're micked up lol
Your vids are great, but I wish you’d cut the time in half. 25 min videos feel like a massive commitment in a busy day.
Invest in your knowledge, at least time
Put the video on 2x speed. Use a browser extension on laptop/PC to speed it up faster. Put on subtitles.
He’s taking the time to create the videos for players of every level. Things need to be explained fully to get his point across to everyone.
Pls at least cut the videos in half
Play it 2x speed mate
