Got the rtoms on my whole kit, love that they just pop on and off, no messing with lugs/head changes.

I try to play my acoustic set at full volume for at least 15 minutes in the middle of the day to minimize the impact to neighbors. For the remainder of my practice time, I then swap out the cymbals for L80's, drop on the RTOM Black Hole mesh covers for my toms, attach an Evans bass drum muffler, and use an Aquarian super-pad for the snare. Quick swap -- no head removal necessary, and gives me ~90% of the feel of the acoustic kit at ~25% the volume.

Aquarian SP over the RTOM? I have a pancake sets - just want to finish that side. Got a kit for the rest of the set.

Would it be even quieter if you put a thin towel or something over the heads and symbols? Even practice kits are to loud for my single story condo. I’m the only person here that goes to work, so even during the day when I’m off they would complain, much less if I wanted to play in the evenings.

I've been drumming on an electronic kit for about 7 years, and would easily consider myself an intermediate drummer, capable of playing some advanced stuff well. I just got a chance to play on an acoustic kit the other day for the first time in about 6 years, and I felt like I was back to square one.
My timing and limb independence transferred fine, but my technique did not. When I tried to play while sightreading, I was constantly missing drums, dropping sticks, and struggling to harness the rebound. I can play really cleanly on a pillow, but I sound like a total beginner on real drums, because I've been playing on cheap, beat-up rubber pads for so many years. However, I did notice some improvement in certain areas. For example, I was able to play a clean, sustained single stroke roll WAY faster (maybe a 25% increase in tempo) on the floor tom.
Just wanted to put this out there so anyone who might be in a similar situation knows they aren't alone, and so that others can hopefully avoid getting into a similar position if they haven't already. I had so much fun getting back onto a real kit, but it was a big wake up call.

the duct tape strips on the cymbal mutes... that's the grind right there. I remember doing similar janky stuff to keep my practice pad kit together in college lol. Didn't realize it but since I didn't have any module to sample the pads I had to play the kit with similar dynamics to an acoustic and it actually served to help my development. I thought about this in retrospect with your video (forgot the title) on optimizing e-kit practice!!

I play with sony extra bass earphones precisely because they cancel out high frequencies really well for the price and sound quality. Also very useful for all you first time parents out there. I can always turn the volume lower on the track I drum to to hear the drums well. Drumming in rehearsal spaces for 2-3 hours without anything in your ears might make your ears ring afterwards and/or result in you having to play louder because the adjacent rooms are all filled with drummers to capacity and it can be quite hard to concentrate on your stuff.

Purchased a cheaper electronic set to practice on as I live in an apartment, the feel is awful, the cymbals have very unrealistic bounce and feel.

These pads are good for removing bleed over ringing of a kit in a small one room home studio. Guitar amps, singing etc. will reverberate the heads and cymbals bleeding over to recording mics. Cheapest pads should do, to fix that in a tidy looking way.

For a beginner who lives in an condo with neighbors that can’t play acoustic drums, would a couple practice pads on stands and a double bass pedal with a bass practice pad be good to start learning technique and form? And would an acoustic kit with practice heads and symbols be even quieter if you put a thin towel or something over the heads and symbols? Even practice kits are to loud for my single story condo. I’m the only person here that goes to work, so even during the day when I’m off they would complain, much less if I wanted to play in the evenings.

For me, it helped me massively to mute the drums with towels (one layer). First of all my kit sounded awfull unmuted even with good Remo heads. Nobody could stand the volume and the hard sound of my kit. The thing with the towels is that i finally got a sound i like. I can play along with a BT speaker and actually hear the music and my kit and is perfectly balanced. I also play much more this way. The only thing i don't like is the cymbals. I would like to try some quiet cymbals but there is no way in Greece to hear their sound before i buy, so i hesitate get them. Rebound and feel is not a big problem for me because i play for fun and i am not a pro.

Your kit should sound better un-muted maybe you need to tune your drums a bit better?
