I agree with many of the comments here, with Thomann B-stock simply means someone returned it because they maybe didn't like the colour, but they get inspected before re-issue so may actually be better than the A-stock. I've bought many B-stock items from Thomann and encountered absolutely no problems👍

Ditto. I keep coming back to the reviews just so I can admire some of your playing - Especially the TE-40 review as I have one of those as well. I may swap in some Seymour Duncan Vintage Blues pickups to warm it up a bit. Funny that I spend more on the pickups than the guitar, but it just looks so damn good.

It's B Stock since it was sent back. Means someone bought the guitar and sent it back to Thomann. This makes A Stock Guitar to a B Stock Guitar.
It said 'retoure' on the box, and yes, that means someone sent it back, but B-stock also can be showroom models, showing traces of use. It varies by shop. In some shops the traces are real damage (harming looks but not the function), shown in pictures, missing parts like wall warts or cables (reflected in the price).
I guess that Thomann is carefully checking and setting up well any guitar sent back prior to offering them as B-stock. Who cares for scratches ? About this SC-450 Custom, plays well in the hands of Jonathan, but alnico 5 humbuckers are very modern tones, which may disappoint somebody looking for vintage tones, then returning the guitar. Also, Harley Benton guitars may have poor set up and sharp fret edges, so that buyer returns it and Thomann fixes the issues prior to B-stock sale.
Anyone knows where can I could buy Harley Benston A Stock guitars?
All I see in Thomann's site are B stock.

Not necessarily. There's a LOT more to pickup construction than just magnet composition. All other things being equal, Alnico V's will be punchier with more of a midrange bite. But I have heard Alnico V's that were voiced to be sweet sounding. Not commenting on the pickups in this specific guitar mind you.
The Blytonian well Sir, I'm very surprised you're so agressive to me, why ? Anyway, as far as I know Gibson used alnico 2 in their PAF, until 1959, giving that vintage tone of Les Paul until the 59. Gibson use alnico 2 in their classic 57. I used to have a 2011 LesPaul Standard with Burstbucker pros alnico 5, capable of high gain , what I call modern being hard rock, but not capable of real vintagy bluesy tones. You're right, never played a HB SC450. From what I heard from Jonathan demos, Roswell LAF please me with tones, while their HAF are more modern tones, both being alnico 5. No doubt number of turns and construction of pick ups are of essence for tones.
Again this video demonstrates it's the player not just the guitar. Agree with the other comment about the distortion but otherwise great playing, you have yourself another grateful subscriber!

B stock may possibly be somebody ordered it and just didn't like it for some reason. It doesn't necessarily have to be damaged. Just used. A good and honest policy. (Thanks Thomann 🤙)

I have the SC-Custom in Honey Flame. It is an older Wilkenson humbucker model from early 2017. It is heavier than any of my other guitars. I kept it stock and love it.

Why do people dislike stock pups just as though removing the stock is always a requirement? Don’t get it. My current guitars are stock, I am not going to do it anymore. That’s just me. Great job showing it off Jonathan!

I agree Jason. When I was much younger I was always switching out pickups. But these days my guitars are stock. I have a Paul Reed Smith Standard 24, an Ibanez Artcore and a Squier Bullet. All stock pickups.

Hello Jonathan. I have been on a Harley Benton buying spree as of lately. Your videos have been inspiring me. My newest acquisition is a SC400 SBK.. The neck and fretboard have a smooth satin finish. It sounds great. I have a Peavey vypyr 40. And a Line6 120 Mark II. A friend of mine has a small music store and has Harley Bentons. There are great guitars for the money. And in my price range. Keep those videos coming. I am a big fan.

Customer returns are sent back thru the shop and inspected and repaired if needed. These are also considered "b stock" but with full warranty

I ordered two Teles, as shipping was the same for one or two. One butterscotch blonde, and the other the naked white with pearl white pick-guard. The white is the B stock, which I believe is a factory return that cannot be resold as new by law. They are at the post office for me to collect as no one was home, of course.

Jonathan Koh B Stock white blonde Tele is in impeccable condition and blemish free. It’s a beautiful guitar - tuners will be the only weak link here, but I preload the strings by only tuning upwards. If I need to tune downwards, I pull up the string to take up any slack on the peg windings and the gears

It's a great guitar. I've had my eye on a HB TE 70 Black Paisley for awhile, having already bought a TE-52 NA a year or so ago - and it's also a really nice guitar, now with Joe Barden pickups in it. Then I watched you playing the lovely HB Custom Line Superior, and I now want one of those - as well as this SC Custom :-))

hey jonathon, I just received my lemon flame harley benton guitar..which i bought after having watched your review..I have only on complaint and that is the harmonics on the 5th fret don't happen..other than that I love it, it plays great, it looks good, and I love the tuning pegs, and also its not very heavy, with a thin body.. and has a nice comfortable feel to it......... Thanks for your reviews, they are very helpful.. I paid $188 dollars plus $33 dollars shipping, best deal possible under the sun..Thanks again, Jack

@@JonIsJustTooLoud hey jonathon, the harmonics work on the 7th fret and on the 12th fret, but not on the 5th fret at all, which is a bit strange, but I can live with it..as long as i can tune it up, no problem..thanks for your reply..jack

My sc 550 is a B-stock. I have some electronics issues, but nothing important. Easy to fix. A new pot and some welding and hop, a new sc-550. :)

The Lemon colored B Stock single cut sounds fantastic. It really helps that this guy can definitely play is ass off. I have 3 on my list to purchase right now. All three Harley Benton's a Telecaster a Stratocaster and a Les Paul 450. All 3 for less than I can buy an Epiphone Les Paul standard at Guitar center. I can't wait.Randy Barger.

...interesting Jonathan that my sc custom ld was made in Vietnam and beside the darker back and neck has it's knobs sunken in the body, which I really like! Bought it half a year ago!

b-stock is usually fine, i only had one ''bad'' experience with custom shop 69 preloaded pickguard, the previous buyer and modified the soldering and 2 positions out of 5 didn't work... having said, their customer service is absolutely outstanding. Just discovered your channel mate, liked and subscribed, oh and, your guitar playing is smashing !

Kai V is quite correct but you said you thought the switch was loose !! I have read of people sending guitars back because of this ,which is a shame because it is so easy to fix . Of all the guitars I have bought from Thomann - Harleys ,I have never sent one back !! That one looks lovely but I have my eye on a CB 450 which is a more Trad Gibson style !! Also I noticed that there are still a few "Michaels" on the guitar . Michaels are the thin bits of clear plastic that protect various parts of the guitar. I named them that after a young friend who showed me a new guitar that still had all the protection plastic on !! I once had to remove 3 layers on a scratch plate for a Tele !!

Hey Johnathan, how are you today? I have a couple of the SC450 "B Stock" guitars. I asked Thomman about this and they said that there's nothing wrong with them, but maybe they have been demonstrated by a customer or something else like that. On one of them, the 3 way switch broke after we demonstrated it. I think my son was a little rough with it when he put it in the rack and bumped it. I have since replaced it and it is now mine forever. I bought 6 guitars total. I am keeping 3, I gave 1 away to a subscriber, and I donated 2 to the young Marines which is kind of a United States Marine based scouting program. All were terrific guitars.

I recently picked up a B stock SC450 GT and a T70 black paisley and couldn’t find one thing wrong with either
Not in the finish,electronics, tuners,fret board not anything
The SC needed its intonation adjusted slightly but really great guitars 👍

have bought 3 B-stocks so far (assuming they are guaranteed checked by quality control upon return ) , and so far it worked for me ,all 3 came with perfect setups

i got mine three days ago. acctually i´m a drummer, but i cant drum at the moment, so I thought i start learning the guitar. I also bought a SC Custom in Ocean Flame B-Stock for 174€ instead of 209€. I have 2 little scratches on my rear humbucker. I even didn´t noticed it before my girlfriend found them at a closer look. I really love the guitar, i always loved the les paul looking. I think I made a good decision and I´m really happy with my guitar. But for now I have to practice alot to master it like you :) Greetings from Austria!

I've ordered two B'Stocks and both were in great condition. I couldn't find any flaws, scratches or anything. I assume it was marked "B" cause maybe it was demo'd in the factory or something? I have no idea. I also, ordered a "blemished" Rg 570 Genesis from ZZ Sounds it was their very last Rg 570 and it was Jewel Blue. I wanted the 570 more than the 550, so I took a chance on the "Blemish" it was marked down 200.00. When I got it. everything was still wrapped in that plastic. the only "blemish" that it had was the tone knob was off, it was in the box though. I put it on, tightened it and it's perfect. So basically I saved 200.00 because the tone knob screw was loose. I love deals like that. So, so far i'm 3 for 3 in the bstock/blemish orders.

The cover is here to protect a loose three-way pickup switch... great! When I got my B-Stock Gibson SG, the ground wire was not well connected to the bridge which causes annoying buzz. This was an easy fix, but just to say: those kind of guitars are maybe not well inspected before being sent.

My B stock Gold(copper)top had a high fret but that was it! The tuners are a bit rubbish but other than that, it plays and souds great!

On the box the translation of “B-Stock” in French said “Return.” The first thing you noted was a loose toggle. That was probably why.

I'd rather have a heavy body than a heavy neck, but I tend to levitate towards lighter guitars these days.

The coil split adds an interesting dimension to that rather thick traditional Les Paul sound. A small aesthetic detail, but don't like the HB style pointy ended bit of the body section cutaway. Apart from that, looks and sounds OK.

As far as I know B-Stock guitars doesn't have any issue, it just mean that it was returned by the buyer to the store. Since by Law the store cannot put it on sell again as "new" (because it's not NEW anymore) they call it "b-stock" and offer it for a cheaper value than the new ones. Just that.
Excellent review! I've been going back and forth between this one and the paradise flame, which has HAF pickups... Getting to hear you play a variety of stuff, helped me decide on the LAF pickups. Thanks!
