You could think OOTD is about them being proud and happy with themselves, about confidence. I don't think that is it though. I have no idea if my theory is correct, but the fact that the album is called VersuS VillainS makes me think it is not this simple. So I believe this song is meant as a criticism of narcissism, vanity, materialism and also (maybe) the fast fashion industry. "OOTD" stands for "Outfit of the Day" after all, clearly fast fashion. The fact that fashion is moving ever faster is actually the most destructive industry to the planet apart from the fossil fuel industry. The Aral lake has all but disappeared because of the cotton industry for example. It would fit to the Villain image, and you can see in the MV that they are acting. It is shown in the scene where Yoohyeon and Handong are fighting, but then the camera is off and Handong helps Yoohyeon up. The main reason why I don't think it is about confidence or their own success is the line "Driving on the highway, drunken everyday, do you feel like a monster?" and the album title. That just doesn't fit. And there was the ymenehcra account posting about touching a crown is dangerous and other cryptic messages before the comeback. It could also be a big and well-hidden F*U to the Kpop industry, like the Nightmare arc probably was. The narcissism and materialism is definitely criticized here, and Dreamcatcher have been criticized a lot themselves because of their rock/metal concept, while other groups have been celebrated for using a guitar riff once in a song. The music is highly interesting as well. There still is rock there, but dialed back. The song structure is not what you'd expect at all, for me it is punk rock meets K-Pop. Not their usual spiel, but a very good progression. It takes a couple of listens to really appreciate it.
I'm really, really, really happy that you understood what they were going for with this comeback--or at least interpreted the song the way you did--because I was worried you might have been on the "they went too mainstream" train. Even I was kind of lost at first with this comeback...I missed a lot of things because I was so confused by it at first, but it's grown on me with repeat listens. And I love the concept, which made me so incredibly happy and proud of them when I realized what they were going for. Thank you for a fun reaction
You are the first person I see reacting to this song that picks out the generally agreed upon meaning of this song, it's a really powerful message and I love that they keep experimenting and discussing topics like this. Great reaction!
asnwering your question in the description, even if it is rhetoric. Yes and No. Dreamcatcher always bends the rules of standards in Kpop. you said it very well. from my perspective, it is about narcissm and the negative things about it. sounds like it is continuation from Odd Eye (fake life of social media) but this focuses more on fashion and lifestyle. the crown symbolizes wealth, class, etc but in this mv, it is only a rendering, not real. you chase that crown (buy things you don't need, wear things to stand out and garner unnecessary attention, to be looked at, to be praised, to be adored, etc). once the rendering is over aka you put down that narcissistic behaviour, it will disappear and you go back to yourself. everybody wants that crown even knowing it wont give anything but.. just my 2 cents on this. the song is great, I love it. never misses.
OOTD is actually a very nasty song about narcisism and the emptiness of showbiz. “Beyond your reach”. Everything must be be perfect. Flawless, spotless. Yet at times there are bruises and scars all over them. Bragging about money and cars. “Get the F out of my way”. “Drunk every day”. Every shot is lifted from a typical K-pop video. The video crew is seen all the time but they are just black silhouttes. At the end they are shown surrounded by a circular green screen becoming an artificial stage. Nothing is real in this world. Oh, and of course: OOTD means “outfit of the day”. That’s what everything is reduced to in this world. Holy hell. I only now noticed: when the video stops after the fight one of the personnel is holding a GUN! In the end someone is holding the camera. They take it away. The cameraman falls to the floor. Now he has no power over them.
This is Dreamcatcher baddie era 😍❤ they are FLEXING AND. IT. IS. JUSTIFIED. Whole album is a big SLAP in the face. Its soooo different and yet that makes it even more Dreamcatcher ❤ Handong and Gahyeon are HELLA AGRESSIVE in this 😍 SuA on that bike... nah im good OMFG😍 JiU letting us know she is a GODDESS is FACTS❤ Siyeon... bruh... Bloohyeon needs to PUNCH ME IN THE FACE AND END MY LIFE ( lets be honest she already did ) DAMI TOLD ME TO GET THE F**K OUT OF HER WAY 😍😍😍 YES MA'AM I WILL F**K ALL THE WAY OFF ❤ Near the ending when Jiu says the spotless line... the facial expression she makes... SHE ENDED ME
@@AMetalheadsPerspective ahahaha thank you 😅 but also , the best part of this comeback is bruh... I just realized that this song is SATIRE...they are "making fun" of all the fake people on social media... bruh... and here I thought I could NEVER love them more than I already did... #DreamcatcherSUPREMACY
They were known as a group called "MINX" and it was composed of 5 members : Jiu, Dami, Yoohyeon, SuA and Siyeon. The concept was bubbly (I like bubbly concept). MINX debuted in 2014 with 'Why Did You Come To My Home?' [MV]. But they rebranded it to "Dreamcatcher" and debuted as a 7 member group : Jiu (Leader), Yoohyeon, Dami, Handong (She wasn’t a MINX member), Gahyeon (Maknae) (She wasn’t a MINX member), Siyeon and SuA. Dreamcatcher has been known for their dark concept (I like dark concept too). Dreamcatcher debuted in 2017 with 'Chase Me' MV.
So after watching OOTD for another 100 times I have theory. They're modern day Sirens, "Don't you want to feel it, come and ride" (Come to/with me) Chorus speaks of what you'll be able to do with them "Popping the champagne, look at my necklace wearing my black dress" (temptations) then at the end the person joins them, the members are cold and appear unfeeling. The tempted is then apparently killed
You picked up on the social critique. I think it goes further than the duality you talk about - one way on the stage and different when they go home. There's something to that. They are the villains in a parallel universe where they have been lured in by the gravitational force of the crown, and become personifications of it. Now they, themselves are the role models, as idols, for others to aspire to the sick values they embrace and portray. And so artfully done. This is part 1 of the series. We will see what part 2 brings...
creative MV catchy song. Kpop MV are just so creative and always something new. nothing like the western pop MV that are mostly simple and blank. especially the editing of KpopMV is something video editors love to see and check.
They are SO COOL! your reactions always so relatable haha loveee this concept they killed it, killed us too ofc and I agree this is very meta in terms of big F to idol standards :D

The Rising song definitely insane. Their vocal quality at the best on this song.
The new Album is incredible! I have to say, the more i hear Rising, the more i would love to hear a colab between Dreamcatcher and Blue Stahli.
19:15 ah we know friend. They deserve all of our love.
Your reaction is soo wholesome 🥺🥺
What a comeback !!
OOTD..Rising..Shatter..We are young. Absolutely, AOTY. It is Dreamcatcher as always.
Rising is just too good. It's like they make up the lack of rock flavor in their title track with this song and MAN did they really not disappoint.
