I love the build, looks great! How's the stability when moving/rolling it? I am not an expert, I never built one of these, but it looks like the wheels could have been moved out further, maybe even until they touch the inside of the bottom rim.
Kevin Fegan it did roll good.. but about a week after I completed it, I fabricated my own Caster Mounts that go on the outside of the drum. Check out some of my newer build videos and check them out.
VHT requires a minimum of 3 hours to dry before handling. But let me warn you now. This paint is delicate..Tape pulls paint. Use delicate Frog tape for most, but you have to use the blue tape for the white stripe around the ribs of the barrel. Pull the tape and rub it back and forth over your blue jeans for a few times to get the heavy adhesive off. Pull slowly when removing. What you will find is that when it pulls a little paint, to fix it, you have to wet sand it until smooth, then paint over. Prepping the drum is key.

OK, if they do not have the paint. Buy the high heat primer, and although I have never done it, I know a lot of people say they use regular spray paint over the high heat primer and it holds up.
Could you please tell me the hole dimensions for the intake pipes I'm ordering from udsparts.com. I really want to have everything pre drilled and waiting. I have everything but those.
Todd Lowe I use a 1 7/8 Metal Hole saw on my drill and that is plenty. I drill the center hole at 3 1/2 inches from bottom lip.. Join me at Facebook Ugly Drum Smokers Texas and I’ll help you thru your build
The Backyard Griller all drums come with Either an epoxy liner Or a simple rust inhibitor. These must be burnt out of the inside. So you have two options of either burning with the propane torch from the outside or building a fire on the inside after drilling holes in it to help with been elation to burn

sardomnumspa it is gold flake.. good eye Not sure about metal flake but here is a tip. Once you use VHT High Heat primer, You can use regular Walmart or Home Depot rust oleum paint. It will hold up as well as the high temp paint and cost half the price. Plus you can find that silver flake you’re looking for
I need to add to my reply. Actually I do cure it in a way. I always season the drum after painting so I am getting the drum over 200 degrees and I let it run for hours.

Why did you use a base coat in this case, but not in the video using the kit? Also, @ the 8:15 mark, saw something white on the lid, followed by another gold coat. What was the "white"? What equipment did you use this time? Where did you get accessories?

How does the paint hold up with the heat (granted it shouldn't really get over about 350 deg)?

Is it necessary to burn off the paint from the outside of the barrel? Cant it just be sanded and repainted?

Sean Murray I use the Chain as a Gravity Weight to hold the Paper Towels down in the wind, and i use it for pulling your UDS...

Did You Clear Coat It?
Salt Savage no clear coat .. just VHT High temp paint from Auto Zone

Salt Savage Mostly just primer and paint, however I use a lot of anodized paint, which when applied properly it looks like it’s been clear coated

Billy Joe I used VHT Primer, followed by VHT Anodized Base Coat, followed by Anodized Purple .. the Gold is VHT Gold Flake and the white is VHT white
