I see some comments of people regretting buying bags because they didn’t hold value and I’m only 23 but I don’t buy any one of my bags with the thought it will hold value. I simply buy them because I love them ❤. I hate when something doesn’t work out for me and I have to sell it!
You can get some really good bargains on the preloved market if you do your homework. I bought a jumbo single flap from Fashionphile last week for close to a third of retail price and it’s in fantastic condition. The vintage ones from the 1990s are very much sought after and the prices have gone beserk but most people don’t realise that there’s a batch of bags from the mid 2000s up to 2008 which look like the current style but are still old enough to have the 24ct gold plated hardware. They are going for a fraction of retail prices, and vintage prices, at the moment because most people don’t know they exist. For the most part they aren’t advertised as being any different to newer bags so you have to know what to look for and spend time searching through listings.
Your number one point is the one I use to try and curb bag buying! There’s always something on my wishlist and I think I need a particular bag because I love the style…but then the new season comes around and no surprise, there’s a new bag I want 😄
That's a really good list. The only thing I would add is -- Never panic-buy. Give yourself at least a few days (if not a few weeks) to consider a new bag. Love at first sight can fizzle out really quickly, lol! Especially if you figure out later that your new bag doesn't even fit your phone.
When I was in my 25 I did spend so much money on designer stuff mostly bags .. now I’m 45 I regret wasting all that money on things that they don’t really hold value. Specially because I didn’t have lots of money. I’m investing for my retirement.. I think Is good to invest like you said 2 good bags..
Me too but did this mistake with designer shoes, bought too many and as per my lifestyle I hardly go anywhere aside of supermarkets and malls. So all those shoes are collecting dust in my closet and when you add up it’s a lot of money wasted.
Relate a lot, but think it's all that rush when as a grown up you reach that financial independence and more about the notion being able to afford something (while you absolutely love the design of course). I enjoyed my first designer bags more than recently acquired purchases, on the other hand my YSL and LV bags increased in value without me realising it lol Smart to invest in 3-4 that you love including a timeless classic style, rest best invested for the future (buying a home or later on financial wealth)
I started my Hermes journey before I can afford a birkin. I decided to get all my essentials from Hermes like blankets and work shoes and ready to wear. Nothing went out of style and I can wear it on any occasion and not covered in logos. Then when I was able to afford my first birkin I got my dream bag and color and size with no wait time because of the relationship I built with my SA. I skipped all the limited edition items from LV, and Chanel.
Dear aime, plz plz do a day in your life video, id love to see your daily routines now that u have leo, gettin up with him, how u incorporate work, bedtime etc xx
Excellent tips! The difference of items in person from the same brand with varying price points is a very good point. I am fortunate to live close to many boutiques and I now always go in person before choosing. Price can be deceiving!
Interesting topic, Amy, thanks for making the video! When I’m looking at a new bag, I ask myself which bag in my collection would I not be able to wear if I was wearing this bag? What am I duplicating? I also have been curating to the point where if it’s not a brand classic piece, I don’t buy it. I will lose interest in a seasonal or trendy bag very quickly. The caveat might be a bucket bag or a seasonal bag.
Fantastic info, Amie! I, especially, like the idea of having pix of your outfits, so you can use them to make good handbag choices! I think that the best thing that I’ve learned is that I can only go to so many places/week where a luxury handbag is used. At this age, I might only go out up to 4x/week-ie. where I’m going to socialize or actually ‘hang out’ with people. Therefore, I don’t NEED 30 luxury handbags. I might WANT a few more, but, I don’t NEED them! 😉 Have a lovely week, dearest Amie! ❤👜❤🇨🇦
Over a period of years I have learned that I really like more practical bags from companies like LV, Celine or Loewe which I can use regularly as compared to the top end bags like the classic flap or H Kelly or Birkin.
You are so right on the sale items (and I agree the Chloe Marcie is the exception because it’s classic and the neutral colors also go on sale)….if a bag is on sale there is a usually a reason. Great video!🩵
Great tips!! Just that not everyone goes for classic bag. I’m sure a group of us goes for individuality. I for 1, don’t like to look similar to most people and go for designs I like , and not becos if it is classic or not :) thus sale might be good! 😂
definitely pre loved. Of all my bags there is only one I bought new at full price and that was the LV World Tour Speedy. That's also a reason I will likely never sell it. It feels "mine". You'll take a 30% hit with most brands any time you want to sell something on. So if I already paid about 30% less to begin with I am less hesitant to sell a bag. The other bag I bought new was the Loewe Anagram tote, but I got it on sale (department store, not directly Loewe). Amazing bag and great quality. Will likely keep it for a long time but if I were to sell it, I don't think I'll lose too much money on it thanks to buying it at a lower price.
Excellent advice and sooo timely for me. I am currently going back and forth between buying a Saint Laurent LouLou or the Puffer LouLou (both in medium) and I have been tempted to buy the LouLou preloved because I have found a great one from a trusted seller but honestly I know the puffer is more my style!
The puffer for some reason is easier to use. It’s less bulky, I love the more easy west style amd one open pocket, the strap is a bit shorter for better crossbody and the snap lines up itself. I sold the small loulou because the flap is harder to close. I love my small puffer.
Thank you for this great video! Love the suggestion at the end of taking pics of your outfits! I’m always thinking about my clothes when I’m shopping for a handbag but so much better to review outfits instead!
I love watching your videos! Would you mind sharing what program you use to get the video into the circle on the upper right of the screen? I love the effect of seeing the B roll but still able to see your face as you speak. Thank you. -Emily
I had Chanel Envy for 11 years and never seem to save enough money to purchase one as every single time I have enough money to buy one the price would go up another 600 or $800. This year I decided to look through all my closet and sold more than half of the bags that I was not using and guess what? I was able to purchase. A Chanel classic flap!!!!
To me lining is usually a biggest giveaway how luxurious bag is. Cheaper brands like Aspinal for example make very good looking bags but as soon as you look inside there will be disappointment - crinkles inside, poor stitching and etc.
@@AmyLee-k6v I just bought one too purely because it's so beautiful to me. It's the wallet on chain version though... So I keep on wondering if it was a wise decision 😂
Thanks for sharing these learnings. I am guilty of so many. I am considering buying a pre loved Chanel small CF in chevron pattern in caviar raspberry red color with SHW, I am getting it at a reasonable price. However I am not so sure about the chevron pattern as I am most used and inclined on diamond quilt and I already have 3 black Chanel bags. Any advice would be great! Thank you
As I’ve gotten older and am busy working and in school the reality is I don’t like bringing my designer bags there. People are so judgey but it’s also not practical. Designer bags have lost their magic IMO. Then again I do have over 8 of them so I’m over it at this point.

My only regret is not buying Chanel earlier when is so affordable 😂 now i think not worth the value anymore
Agree, Definitely not worth the current prices!

Me too! At 50 reflecting on my past 30 years of purchasing designer goods, probably only 20 percent were wise, rest definitely a waste of money!!

I have to agree but don’t beat yourself up! You’re only 45 and there’s still a long way to go.

Perfect timing and great advice as I’ve been doing a little window shopping lately having a bit of a struggle deciding on the right pieces.

Can you do a video with other brands comparing how you did with YSL? Ones that are lower and higher.

Haha it's always the struggle between 'need' and 'want' for me too! 🙈

Thanks for the good tips❤
Will love to see your current bag collection 😍 it seems you had update it
I had Chanel Envy for 11 years and never seem to save enough money to purchase one as every single time I have enough money to buy one the price would go up another 600 or $800. This year I decided to look through all my closet and sold more than half of the bags that I was not using and guess what? I was able to purchase. A Chanel classic flap!!!!
What a great summary 💜 Love your closet (and style)!
To me lining is usually a biggest giveaway how luxurious bag is. Cheaper brands like Aspinal for example make very good looking bags but as soon as you look inside there will be disappointment - crinkles inside, poor stitching and etc.
I ordered Demellier and returned it ..I agree with you ..I was disappointed with how it feels ..I actually liked Aspinal more
Amie, have you considered getting butterfly bangs/haircut? I think it would look so good on you!❤
How about Dior's Diorama? I feel like it has reached "classic" status but they suddenly discontinued it.
I bought one recently pre loved for a great price and the bag holds up great over time !!
I loved this bag, even more than the Chanel Boy Bag. I would have bought it in more colors if they hadn’t discontinued it.
@@AmyLee-k6v I just bought one too purely because it's so beautiful to me. It's the wallet on chain version though... So I keep on wondering if it was a wise decision 😂
Such a great video my love 😍 some very interesting points!! Thank you for sharing your wisdom!
Can you do a bag collection video? It’s been awhile
Thanks for your great summery! /Marie from Sweden
Love your video Amie, nice and thorough. I'm a fan of your channel, it actually has inspired me to start my own channel. 😘Thank you for sharing! 🤩
Hi! I just watched your save or splurge video from years ago... What do you think about wallet on chains? Are they worth it to spend or no?
Make sure your things you carry everyday fits!!!

Top notch video. Thank you!
Fantastic tips ❤😊
Thank you for all the tips, Amie!
My Demillere New York tote has leather that is so much better quality than any LV, Chanel, or Dior bag I have owned.
Love this!
