      @@KellyLehman it’s called Peony’s Envy in Bernardsville. The owner, Kathleen, was kind enough to Id a tree peony I inherited from my grandma for me via email and I popped in to buy some truly exceptional roots from her last fall. She’s apparently got a lot of clout within the American society...oh and Martha Stewart order peonies from her💅🏼 idk if she’s open for collabs but o was just blown away by how nice and knowledgeable she is.

    Hi! New to your channel. I really enjoyed the info on sunflowers recently. I’m brand new to gardening, trying to start a small flower farm so I can retire from firefighter/paramedic life. It’s not going so well but I refuse to give up. I appreciate ALL the info you have. I live in zone 8B, near Tuscaloosa, AL. Normally I would say we have a really mild winter, usually just a few days in January. Then, it’s blazing hot, brutal summer the rest of the year. However, mother nature has been cruel this year. We just had the worst winter that I can remember with near freezing temps again last night. I’m SO frustrated trying to figure out what will grow here! Thank you so much for all the advice and suggestions!

    • @KellyLehman
      @KellyLehman  3 года назад

      Hey Chris , viburnum are usually pretty tough . If it doesn't straighten out this year you can prune it back to get the upright growth . Here is some information i found for you .
      ➡️ Light pruning can be performed any time throughout the growing season, but late winter or early spring is the best time to complete a hard pruning if needed. Suckers growing at the base of the shrub can be removed at any time. Viburnums flower on old wood.

    Yeah this is Gene from Pennsylvania I have 30 gardens at memorial Park I've been doing about 18 years now I've been doing putting etopian he's in there so have a couple couple three of them they're still young plants it's they're doing really great so I love the Ito that's that's the main one I want I just ordered another five of them and then two more tree peonies so yeah I'm hoping that that's what the case is I'm sure they do go longer cuz they're both their flowers are a lot more than what a regular panty is so yeah I'm pretty sure that's the way it goes I don't know if it's all summer but longer anyways okay

    I have an itoh, magical mystery tour (reminded me of the Beatles). It came bare root and is still in a pot but time now to place in landscape. Trying to decide on sun, part sun, shade.

    What month or season can you split them, and how young can they be before splitting them?
    Thanks, I love the channel and your Jersey accent. 👍🏻

    • @KellyLehman
      @KellyLehman  3 года назад

      Hey Matt ( what accent ? 😃😎 JK, i know ) . Loved your comment . The month would depend on your planting zone . I would wait until about 7 weeks is expected before the first freeze . YOu will be safe if it comes within six weeks of splitting and replanting but seven weeks is a safe bet . Good luck getting even more peony blooms after you split them !

    Can't get enough of all things Peonies! I'm looking forward to the zinnia video as well. Have you tried the Zinnia Profusion series from seed? I just discovered them this year and will be starting some late from seed her in zone 4b. I'm curious if you or anyone else has tried them and thoughts on their performance. Thanks for the content! :)

    Hello from Ohio where it SNOWED yesterday. My peonies look great in May and awful by August. When is the earliest to cut them down? Also how to handle the powdery mildew and black spots? Thank you.

    • @KellyLehman
      @KellyLehman  3 года назад +1

      Thank you for the Super peony questions Christine . I leave the leaves in tact all summer so the peony plant can continue feeding itself and storing food in the tuber so it can winter over properly . I also get the powdery mildew and black spots some years. Just cut out the leaves that have them and throw in the garbage . DO not mix the mildewed leaves back into the garden . You are very welcome 🌸😊🤗

    Watching from Sgt. Bluff, IA! What other full sun flowers would you recommend planting along with the peonies in order to still have beautiful blooms around after the peonies are spent?

    • @KellyLehman
      @KellyLehman  3 года назад +1

      Awesome peony question Jodi . In my garden , i have daffodils and tulips that pop up before the peonies bloom . A few feet in back of my peonies, are my endless summer hydrangeas, butterfly bushes and knockout roses . There is a constant wave of garden color . You can also plant sun loving annuals near them like zinnias ,cosmos, celosia ect for summer color once the peonies fade. Happy gardening .

      @@KellyLehman Thank you Kelly! I've got a 60 foot long span the will be about 4-5 foot in depth. It all faces south and we get very hot and humid in the summer here. Will the summer annuals you recommended stand up to the heat as long as they have adequate water?

    • @KellyLehman
      @KellyLehman  3 года назад

      Your peonies may need to be transplanted into larger pots since the peony roots get larger each year . If you have the option of planting your peony in the ground once temps warm up , that's even better .

    Hey Kelly, I had planted Peonys several years ago and suddenly most died last year . A few survived. Why?

    • @KellyLehman
      @KellyLehman  3 года назад +1

      Hmm interesting peony question . Peonies are usually pretty hardy but i have had random peonies die in my peony some years too ? The could have gotten a disease or maybe not enough water . One year the weeds overtook two of my peonies and they dies from lack of sunlight .
