Hello from Ohio where it SNOWED yesterday. My peonies look great in May and awful by August. When is the earliest to cut them down? Also how to handle the powdery mildew and black spots? Thank you.
Thank you for the Super peony questions Christine . I leave the leaves in tact all summer so the peony plant can continue feeding itself and storing food in the tuber so it can winter over properly . I also get the powdery mildew and black spots some years. Just cut out the leaves that have them and throw in the garbage . DO not mix the mildewed leaves back into the garden . You are very welcome 🌸😊🤗

Watching from Sgt. Bluff, IA! What other full sun flowers would you recommend planting along with the peonies in order to still have beautiful blooms around after the peonies are spent?
Awesome peony question Jodi . In my garden , i have daffodils and tulips that pop up before the peonies bloom . A few feet in back of my peonies, are my endless summer hydrangeas, butterfly bushes and knockout roses . There is a constant wave of garden color . You can also plant sun loving annuals near them like zinnias ,cosmos, celosia ect for summer color once the peonies fade. Happy gardening .
@@KellyLehman Thank you Kelly! I've got a 60 foot long span the will be about 4-5 foot in depth. It all faces south and we get very hot and humid in the summer here. Will the summer annuals you recommended stand up to the heat as long as they have adequate water?
Your peonies may need to be transplanted into larger pots since the peony roots get larger each year . If you have the option of planting your peony in the ground once temps warm up , that's even better . I just discovered them this year and will be starting some late from seed her in zone 4b. I'm curious if you or anyone else has tried them and thoughts on their performance. Thanks for the content! :)
Ohhhhh I need to try this zinnia profusion series . Have not grown them yet but now I'm super curious. Thanks for the zinnia tip Mr Rogers Trolley 🌸👍
Thank you for checking in from Ohio . WOW . Snow in APril . So crazy . 🌸🌍🌸😊👋

@@KellyLehman I’m one step ahead of you. 😀. Joined this morning!
@@jodip719 They should as long as you keep up with the watering .😊
Thank you for checking in from Sgt. Bluff, IA 🌸👋🤗🌍
what do you use to fertilize your peonies?
Shld I transfer my potted ones from last year original pots?
Your peonies may need to be transplanted into larger pots since the peony roots get larger each year . If you have the option of planting your peony in the ground once temps warm up , that's even better .

Do peony need ants in order to bloom? I notice a large amount of black ants on my flowers prior to blooming.
Hey Kelly, I had planted Peonys several years ago and suddenly most died last year . A few survived. Why?
Hmm interesting peony question . Peonies are usually pretty hardy but i have had random peonies die in my peony some years too ? The could have gotten a disease or maybe not enough water . One year the weeds overtook two of my peonies and they dies from lack of sunlight .
I forgot to mention my tulips and daffodils were buried by snow so worried but have bounced back.
Feels like 27 here in seasides!
