I did that walk in 2009, waling up the Derwent to Swains Head, up to Bleaklow Stones, to Grinah Stones and planned to go to Ronksley Moor and down Linch Clough to my car parked at the end of the road by Howden res, but somehow went down Lower Small Clough back to the Derwent, I should have checked my compass instead of relying on what I thought was the correct valley I descended !

Just watched the Video Dean and found it great watching. I completed the same walk this year (2018) but in the heatwave, gorgeous route up and great on Grinah Stones were i Wild Camped with my two dogs, but boy in 26 degree temps and carrying a 40 pound pack i found it a little hard at times. I had walked all the way from the Southern side of Kinder Scout, around Mad Woman Stones , down Bleackley Hey, then back up to Alport Castles, to the plantation and then along your route. Quite a long day, some 16 miles i think. Great views and not a soul about. Absolutely love Bleaklow. Atb Bill.

Looking back at a few oldies Dean. I’ll be getting up that direction soon, the Grinah & Bleaky way.. looking like great moody weather on this one. Didn’t realise you could actually park that far up by Howden. Is that road closed at week-ends only? Well, some HD footage up there with your drone would be grand some time .... when it’s not windy and wet haha.. Stephen

I really like being up at Bleaklow Stones, i've just been backing up the pictures from this era to Google Photos so I've just come back and watched the video again after your comment. Hope you are keeping well and I have my fingers crossed for spring :-) All the best. Dean

Seeing your walks is inspiring. So thanks for adding me also.

Another great video mate. Love those days where you find yourself out on your own. Unfortunately most of my walking is done at the weekend so those solitary walks are few are far between. That potential wild camp spot definitely look nice. Made my day getting a mention too haha. Get a GoPole ;-)

Thanks again for your support mate, really appreciate it. I defo need a GoPole :-) haha. Gonna buy one tonight from Amazon / eBay, I keep forgetting to look. It would be a nice spot to camp I reckon, good water source (if filtered) and nicely sheltered if it's windy up tops.

Dean Read No worries mate. I do enjoy watching them. There aren't many I can watch without flicking through but always watch yours in their entirety. Ah cool. So you next video we could be seeing you at the end of a pole then? Definitely worth checking that eBay link I sent you on FB. Was about the cheapest I found it.

Hi, I’m thinking of going to the peaks for a wild camp trip over the Easter weekend.
I’m hoping to spend 3 nights there but I haven’t been there before. Do you think it is suitable for a first time wild camper (with some camping experience), and could you kindly give some recommendations to a hiking trail with some good wild camp spots?
I will be using the train so I’m open to any suggestions.
    Thanks
    Ric

You could hike for a few days along the Pennine Way starting form Edale if you are coming in by train. You could possibly head for the station at Marsden and that would give you 2 nights and 3 days reasonably paced walking. There are numerous wild camping spots along the Pennine Way which are out of the way of civilisation, providing you are good at navigation I don't think you would have any probs.

If you fancied a circular route you could try the Kinder Loop (www.peakhorsepower.co.uk/kinder-loop/4564966794) which is a 55 mile circular route with numerous places for a wild camp. You could get the train to Edale or maybe Hadfield if you wanted to do it.

      Dean Read
Thanks for the advice; I think the Kindle Loop is a really attractive idea. Just wondering how is the weather like in April? Windy, wet or both?
Also it is mentioned that the trails is classified as challenging, it is challenging for horses or humans? Couldn’t wait to spend a few days there!
In the event of foul weather and we couldn’t complete the loop within 72 hours, how easy you think it is to get back to Hadfield via public transport from one of the surrounding villages?
Since this will be the first time for me to wild camp, do you have any tips on how to pick a campsite in the peaks?
      Thanks

Great vid Dean. Re Parking at Howden....i didn't think you could go that far down? As at the main parking near the Derwent Dam it says no cars beyond this point?

+drubber007 thanks for watching. You can get further down the road during the week, at weekends they shut the road after Fairholmes

Ahhh ok that's good to know thanks. I am lucky to live in Hayfield so most of your walks are on my doorstep and know them well. I am a landscape photographer...probably bump in to you one day!!
