meal prep seems good in theory, but in practice it has a lot of issues. one, i don’t like eating the same exact meal 6 nights a week. 2, the food (especially on the last few days) has “leftover taste” when reheated. i’ve also found that the meals tend to get soggy, especially fruits and vegetables. i also don’t want to spend half of my sunday cooking and doing dishes. i’d rather just make a quick 5 minute meal every night instead
that's you though and there's nothing wrong with that. but others can enjoy food over and over while not wanting to cook every single day, so meal prepping works for them.
While these are valid points, I find that meal prepping every sunday, then on wednesday/thursday helps a ton. That way, the food wont get soggy or get the leftover taste. You can also cook something new halfway through the week, so the meals will be quite varied. I do sometimes also make HUGE portions of vegetable stews or various soups and freeze them. Its easy to reheat and they dont go bad, and dont taste different when frozen. This is an easy way to always have a meal in the freezer with zero effort. Also, meal prep really doesnt take half the day. For me it takes like an hour or two max. Just gotta figure out your system and be efficient.
@@elyssatruman1292 i guess for me it’s just easier to eat a meal that takes like 5-10 minutes to prep every night instead. i’ve found a few that are super quick and easy like rice bowls, ramen, frozen butter chicken, salads, avocado toast, etc. but i understand that meal prep is a better option for some. ig everyone’s brain works differently and for some people it’s easier to break it down into a daily task, and for some it’s easier to do the task all at once
I used to meal prep like that til I started to hate the texture of leftovers. Also most cooked meals only last 4 days you’re risking getting sick if you’re doing 5 days or longer. Now I cook two meals every 4th day. And meal prep my breakfast the night before. I enjoy my time in the kitchen quite relaxing when watching anime 😊
I do 2 days at a time and that usually works well for me. I can do 3 days as well but it can depend on my mood. On the 3rd day you can definitely tell a difference in the taste though, especially with meats like lamb or fish.
Meal prepping isn’t meant for 7 days. Y’all should look how to safely do meal prepping. Eggs last 4 days unless boiled 7 days. Cooked rice ONLY lasts 4 days. Cooked bacon 4 days, salmon 3-days.
freeze.. After the cooking day, I keep enough stuff for 2 days, then freeze the rest, the meat and some veggies. .. with them I bake potatoes, sweet or normal, as I use only once in a week the oven. The meat and veggies are for the lunch and dinner during the week. Sides, I make every 2 days, usually rice..sometimes beans, pasta or only salad. The eggs, boiled every couple of days, to avoid having them fried..A soup, enough for couple of days, prepared in same cooking day. Fresh veggies for salads and fruits, I buy 2 times in a week, do not put them in the freezer. In the freezer..other fruits and veggies like berries, broccoli, Mexican mix.. Sometimes , I make another soup, during the week. ..or use the leftover meat for various quick receipts, to do not get bored. Chicken, breast or thighs, no skin. I do not know how others manage, but I do not have time. Frozen food may not taste same, but gives to my body everything needed, especially protein, I reduce the time for cooking, I do not eat junk, I control the amounts, have diversity. Breakfast is fruit, yogurt, eggs or oatmeal. Sometimes smoothies with frozen& fresh fruits...and soy, almond or rice milk. Supplements ofc. Stay healthy , guys..
Wait... Since when eggs lasts 4 days? What eggs? Bc you said that boiled eggs last 7 days, so I assume that any otherf form of cooking them (like frying or steaming) works the same. So raw eggs lasts 4 days? Sorry, english isn't my first language, so maybe I didn't understood something. But in my country eggs last for like 5 weeks and you don't even have to put them in the fridge (but it's just because in Europe we have diffrend way of ensuring that there isn't any bacteria on shells, and that's why in US you have to put eggs in fridge and in Europe you don't have to)
@@alicjaobuchowicz I think she had in mind cooked eggs..Boiled last longer. But, I do not think there is need to prepare in advance and keep in the fridge, for days, fried eggs, omelets..They take little time to cook. You are right, raw eggs last long time.. Meal prepping is for who has little time and does not mind repeat in meals.
The snack boxes are brilliant!!! I have autoimmune illnesses and get ulcers and other tummy issues often, making it hard to eat regular portions as well as just crushing my appetite. Making a variety snack box so I have ready-to-go options is such a genius way to make sure I have something with me that I can tolerate without stopping to stress over options or prep when I feel my worst. Thank you!
Genuine question 🙋🏻♀️ If you keep bagels in fridge, don’t they get soggy after a few days? I would like to prep more in advance, but find after a few days it goes a bit mushy!
or you could do what i do because i also hate when my bread or rice gets mushy from the juices of other food. prep the protein , and the fruit every thing but put them in the same container and when you want to eat just take out what you need and assemble that has helped me 🤍
It would be nice if you said how you heat all of the meals that require that. Also if you gave a general idea of how long it takes to prep & a ball park figure of what you spent on ingredients. Thanks
I make a protein and I build a meal from there with whatever leftovers. I prefer chicken. So I'll do Roasted chicken and veggies one night. Make chicken tacos another. A shredded chicken sandwich for lunch the next day. Chop the chicken and toss into a salad etc. These snack boxes are a good idea!
I feel like I'm the only one who hates meal prep. i got bored of eating the same food every day and will suspect my food ruined by Wednesday. i know this is faster and easier on dishes, but it's just not for me 😂😅
I love the snack box prep! When I get snacky I start looking for the perfect snack and end up munching on a hunch of different things. This is a great idea!
The rule of thumb for things not going bad is four days. There are definitely things you can cook ahead or freeze that don’t taste “leftover” like soups, stews, and many casseroles. Cooking ahead is a huge money and time saver if you can get your system down and find recipes that work for you. I love watching Acre Homestead here on RUclips. Becky has it figured out and everything she cooks looks delicious. I’ve tried a few of her recipes and they were all winners. If you’re not a cook ahead person then this ladies method of washing and prepping all her fruits and vegetables is the next best thing.
I meal prep every Sundays together with my husband. Since we both do not like eating the same thing several days in a row, we make two different types of protein and two different types of veg over rice. We make these for the 4 day week because i only work half day fridays...so i can make us lunch when i get back
I used to just make double the quantity, save half for the next meal. So instead of cooking dinner 7 days a week it was 3-4 times. I could alternate if I didn’t want to eat the same meal two days in a row. And at least half the time I was eating freshly made food. Breakfast was just oatmeal during the week and eggs on the weekends.

Squirt lemon juice on them after washing and don't rinse it off. Real lemon juice from a lemon. I wash all fruit, veg and meat with lemon after water!! Mine also rot when I do not use lemon. Also keep their container, and put them in it with a small plate under it as a drip pan for excess. Or a colander in a bowl if you have a lot of berries and have the fridge space! You can even put a little on apple slices and they will not brown for several hours even out in the open!
To all the people in these comments saying “food tastes gross after 2 days!!” - y’all don’t know how to cook properly. Where I live people regularly cook once a week for an entire family and re-heat everyday and it tastes just fine. Actually a large majority of third world countries do this and most eat three times better than in the US and so.😂
Why does everybody in the organizing videos? Literally wash the strawberries before they eat it. Don’t you only want to wash strawberries unless you could eat them but if you don’t, if you wash them before you’re not even gonna eat them, they’ll go bad.
