Huge fan of my wooden swift from Lykke. I also just doubled down and got the standwood ball winder. Definitely more expensive but it genuinely might be the nicest thing I own. Its like....EQUIPMENT haha.
Swift and ball winder Knit Picks. Enjoy your company coming. Curtains...ikea. good job picking up. It always makes me feel better when its done. I ran to my local LYS on my lunch to buy new needles cast on a new pair of socks tonight.
Baking soda is great for cleaning and laundry! Also I'm amazed that after a full day of housework and tidying up, you still had the energy to sit and knit! When I have days like that, I struggle to keep my eyes open once I'm on the couch and decompressing. I can also relate to just being mad and frustrated with everything going on in one's personal bubble, as well as the world. But as you said, Life is Life and we carry on. A new day brings new opportunities and hopefully new perspectives and ideas. Happy holidays to you and yours, I love watching your content and I look forward to test knitting something of yours (probably cabled) someday soon. Cheers!
Some days the have tos take over from the want tos, and you’ve just had one of those days. Cleaning and tidying is enough to make anyone cross and frustrated but it’s done! Enjoy your guests, enjoy your clean and tidy house, enjoy your new shelves, well done. Great podcasts, thank you.
Try not to succumb to the pressure of have-to's. You're not running a hotel. If you are welcoming and warm and enjoy your guests, they won't mind close quarters, or any other detail. If you don't like curtains in your knitting/guest room, you can install room darkening blinds, so your guests can have darkness, but you don't have curtains blocking the window when you are working.
I got the Starwood Ball winder for my birthday *October* and it’s been the best thing in my knitting toolbox. I’ve never had such a seamless and well caked ball. I hate my swift - it’s the same one you have. I’m really hoping I get something awesome for the holiday. :)
Well done, you! Uff. I feel your frustration and exhaustion. Moving house and setting up and having your first guests / first Christmas and you want it to be perfect, but the day only has so many hours…. Yeah. Yay for the shelves!
I have the Stanwood ball winder and it’s excellent, sturdy and really good quality and winds good size cakes. Definitely worth the investment. Also the Chiaogoo Amish style swift is really good. Treat yourself!
Watching other people clean their homes always inspires me to clean mine - so this was great because I have to clean the house this weekend to prepare for my in-laws' visit! And I love my tabletop Amish yarn swift. My brother made it for me, using a RUclips tutorial, as a christmas present a few years ago.
I have the Chiaogoo swift is is great because you can just put it down on a table and also you can take it appart completely. I don’t remember the price but it was nothing crazy.
RE: Yarn Swift. I don't know if it's available in the UK, but Knit Picks' wooden swift is also available on Amazon. Also don't know what it is in pounds, but in the US, one is $64 USD. I replaced my awful but working metal one with this, and love it! Totally worth it. Ty for Vlogmassing (not a word 😊). Sending love from across the pond (where I can no longer trust the gauge in my stress-knitting). 💚
I bought a rosewood and beechwood Scheepjes Umbrella Swift, love it, haven’t had a problem with it, I think they are about £50-£60. It was cheaper to get one sent for the UK than buy one in Australia during Covid! Also a Lykke ball wonder last year, that was my treat to myself.
I have the same swift and I have the exact same issue! my yarn (especially 2 ply/fingering) always gets stuck on it and it creates chaos! loving vlogmas, and thank you for being real!
As much as you knit, I would get a good quality electric ball winder. As another viewer pointed out, it is a business expense. I don’t think you need the fanciest swift (honestly you could build one out of pvc pipes and a lazy Susan for less than $20). I used to make-do all the time since knitting is just my hobby. Finally I realized that I spend a lot of time doing this hobby and good quality tools make it so much more pleasant. All that said, I have a cheap ball winder from Knit Picks (got it on sale for like $13), one from Loops and Threads that I found at my thrift store, and a Japanese model. None are ideal, but they mostly make a decent cake. Hopefully some really awesome company will just take the hint and send you amazing ones and everyone will benefit. (Clo Knits recently did a review on an electric ball winder if you want to check that out.)
I really like the Bobbin Box Birch Yarn Swift from wool warehouse. It's wooden one and works really well and is a lot more affordable than pther brands (about £25ish). The yarn winder from the same brand is also great! But comes in a pretty naff colour.
I love my swift, but hate my ball winder! I have a Shaker style swift (sorry no link). It's nice because it can be taken down and doesn't have parts that break.
My husband bought me a new swift and winder (table top ones)from southern wool show made in llandeilo which was funny as we live in south Wales 😂 so easy to use ❤
FYI day 5 and 6 you forgot to change the intro day number XD I second Knit Picks swift and Stanwood Needlecrafts ball winder. Stanwood is expensive but that thing will last decades. And I LOVE that tiny window between your living room and kitchen ! So fun !
I use a Rosewood Lykke Swift and I absolutely love it. It seems well made and I’ve had no problems with it. I can’t remember the price but I got it from the Wool Warehouse. My ball winder is just a knit pro one. Hoping one day to fine one that matches my swift 😅
Omg you are watching Anna’s vlogmas! This feels crazy cause yours and hers are the only knitting vlogmas I am watching 😍. I almost recommended her vlogmas to you but l never remember her full name 😂.
Just caught up on the previous vlogmas episodes, so it's really nice to see you've uploaded a new one. ❤ I am watching while finishing a sock. What is your favourite Christmas song?
Ha Ha. My swift is in the same shape, but I know how it happened. A rampage over a snagged swift, a ball winder that launched the yarn cake into space and a seriously evilized skein. Who knew yarn could bring out your inner Godzilla?
Funny to hear you mention Chelsea Yarns. I believe it’s her husband with her and they are a hoot. I watched her Vlogmas last year too and yes, he loves his hot chocolate.
I have had Stanwood recommended to me over and over. 6 foot medium swift and heavy duty metal winder combo on sale. Sign up for newsletter and get an additional 10% off. 2 to 5 day shipping, no charge. $116.05. No-brainer.
Haha that's so funny I have a breastfeeding pillow (the My Breast Friend - what a name) and it has an elasticated pocket on the side for storing bottles, BUT when I'm nap trapped by baby it happens to be the perfect size to hold my ball of yarn ;)
I like your ugly chair. Looks like it would be a good reading/slouching chair, with a few cushions. 😁 I hate the day before guests arrive, but it's always nice when they leave and the house is still really tidy. xx
This is getting to be a 'trend'. We put aside OUR cleaning only to find that podcasters think it wld be a great idea to have Us watch THEM CLEAN!!!!! Yeah. We can stroll by but it's the concept that confounds me. So many knitters doing it now. I hope the trend changes soon and stops insulting women and 'housewife'????? Playing housewife?? That's just condescending and wrong.
Definitely wasn’t supposed to offend anyone. Vlogmas is all about filming every day of December and my day yesterday was all about cleaning, so it got filmed. Cleaning doesn’t normally make it onto the channel because I don’t do a lot of vlogging content usually. No offence was intended and apologies if any was caused
@ phew ok 👍🏻 I had to fast forward your vlog as it was very stressful 😂… I only allow my knitting room to get messy 'cos that's what artists do , right? But I do try and tidy it up daily xxxx love Mummy

Baking soda is also very good to put in a bath for sore muscles!
I’m a bit behind on your vlogmas, but really enjoying seeing what you get up to daily. ❤
I too am behind, I think it's the curse of vlogmas!

I'm sitting here just admiring my new shelves and feeling very content!
A new ball winder and swift would be business expenses :)

Definitely! The plan was to have blinds up by now but of course that never happened!
I got the Starwood Ball winder for my birthday *October* and it’s been the best thing in my knitting toolbox. I’ve never had such a seamless and well caked ball. I hate my swift - it’s the same one you have. I’m really hoping I get something awesome for the holiday. :)
I got a Glimakra wooden swift from a weaving equipment supply store. I love it! Clamps to a table top or the side edge of a door, and is very sturdy!
Well done, you! Uff. I feel your frustration and exhaustion. Moving house and setting up and having your first guests / first Christmas and you want it to be perfect, but the day only has so many hours…. Yeah. Yay for the shelves!
I have a Lykke mangowood swift and an Ashford ball winder. The swift runs super smooth and the ball winder can make giant cakes
I have the Stanwood ball winder and it’s excellent, sturdy and really good quality and winds good size cakes. Definitely worth the investment. Also the Chiaogoo Amish style swift is really good. Treat yourself!

There's nothing like a visit from someone to motivate you to actually do the jobs! It definitely worked for me.
Thank you so much for sharing all the realness in your life! 🫶🏻

Haha yes I also love Chelsea and her husband Red Bank Mike. They just crack me up.
Love the gingham bedding.❤
They're SO funny, I love them.

Yes, Red Bank Mike is her husband of many years. They live in Red Bank, New Jersey.

Uhoh!
I loooove our little hatch. The dog likes to sit there and watch me make dinner.
I bought a wooden umbrella swift on amazon. I just looked and the less expensive ones run $32 and up

Stanwood all the way I love their Amish swift great for any weight if yarn❤
Thank you for sharing life with us :)
I have a ChiaoGoo swift which is good

At least 1 in every 10 times I use it the whole ball winder goes flying
Fizzy juice! Does anyone still use "ginger"?
Lovely Vlogmas Rebecca I’ve given a hint for my secret Santa a Swift 😉🤣🤣
Shelves look great! Remember your guests are going to have a wonderful time because they are coming for fun, not as house inspectors! Lol.
Funny to hear you mention Chelsea Yarns. I believe it’s her husband with her and they are a hoot. I watched her Vlogmas last year too and yes, he loves his hot chocolate.
They’re SO funny. I love how organised the hot chocolate station is!

Rebecca darling! 🛑 Stop…. Take a rest… you are doing too much!
Quiet day today! replying to comment with a gin and tonic, my knitting and a quiet evening ahead
