Episode 2 Caped Crusader Clayface Honest Review. What did you think of And the Villain?
Did you like the Episode? Hate it, or just didn't care for it.
Let me Know in the comments below. Next Review will be Wed. Peace
Better then Episode 1, but still not great. 6/10
Me and my orange cat watched the review together and I’d give the episode a 5 to 6 out of 10
Clayface reason for killing made much more sense during his first introduction in the comics. I do not like how Renee Montoya was designed nor how she was portrayed. The same could be said for Harvey Dent and Harvey Bullock. They were never total duchbags and shouldn't have been portrayed that way. Well, at least episode 3 will be good to talk about since Catwoman made that episode enjoyable.
Ep 2 was a good step up for me and I enjoyed it alot more then ep 1. It's a solid 8/10 for me, because I liked the action scenes and I liked Clayface as a villain. And I loved the Easter eggs and nods to Universal classic monsters, especially with Jack Ellman who was a nod to Universal Monsters make up artist, Jack Pierce.
I didn't care in the least about this Clayface episode because the story was far less interesting than its BTAS counterpart, which was tragic. Like, Matt Hagen Clayface, you could totally get on his side. He was disfigured in an accident, he wanted to fix his face, he became addicted to Daggett's cure, tried to get out of it, was left to die, tried to find solutions on his own.
Caped Crusader's Clayface chose his fate and was a bit lame about it.
Also, I gotta say in advance, but nah man, the Catwoman's episode is garbage to me.
I prefer takes on Catwoman where she's either a feline activist, or she's fighting to help her fellow prostitutes and girls who live in the poor parts of Gotham.
Caped Crusader Catwoman is just a spoiled girl with no apparent martial arts training who wakes up one morning and decides she's gonna do acrobatics, fight Batman and jump from rooftop to rooftop in high heels and dress. That's BS.
This is the episode that gave me the biggest urge to drop the series, for fear of what they might pull next.
I liked serial killer Clayface, with his "The Shadow" vibe. I liked the detective-work mystery throughout the episode. But there came a very particular moment that just suddenly broke the immersion & atmosphere, when the "damsel in distress" suddenly stopped dead and LECTURED Clayface on how he was being too fake. At first I thought they were going to go with her trying to reach his humanity, about how he's not actually a villain, but they just glossed it over to have a moment where a woman "takes back power" from a man who is holding her in submission. It felt so ham-fisted and out of place, and made me wonder if the rest of this is going to be man-hating garbage. Yeah, it is, but this was the single most blunt moment where I notice it.
I’ve still not seen it but I trust Luke’s opinion. He is very accurate when it comes to reviewing Batman content. Also haters need to leave you guys alone. I’m actually starting to deal with a hater on some of my projects and it’s not fun at all

Idk, if its just me, but it bothers me that when bruce is in the batcave he always wears the full batman outfit. I always thought it was cool when bruce was in the batcave without the mask on. It just seems lazy to me.
Most of BTAS He's in his Suit sitting at the Computer. Some times He had his Mask off. But for the most part, He doesn't. Just incase an intruder comes to the Batcave. Batman's real identity is protect.
It fits. He's still pretty early on in his career and so that persona is FRESH to him. The mask is his face.
They really turned Clayface into a Simp and an Incel huh? Absolutely brilliant and totally not cringe, these writers should go on strike to get paid better.

Didn't care for the moment where she mouthed off to Clayface, sucked all the tension out of the scene. If she doesn't care she's gonna get cut in half, why should I?
AGREED that lecture felt very cartoonish, like something out of Freakazoid or the Tick or something. Just didn't work
We’ve gotten stories like this before where the villain becomes a villain because he couldn’t take rejection not just from a woman, but just from society and the life itself. But I get it, it’s 2024, so the writers are going to turn it into some meta incel piece.
Thank God Paul Dini kept Bruce Timm in line in the 90's. This show is pure What Bruce Timm wanted in the Animated Series and now he's fulfilling his sick twisted vision.
It’s not the worst Batman show ever…the woke crap is annoying as hell, but honestly what is equally as bad is like you said, the subplots are boring as hell…just give me Batman…When he’s on screen, the show is actually pretty good! But I wanted to watch the show for Batman…Not the new adventures of Barbara Gordon and Montoya
F that meaningless word.
@@sup3414woke means pushing agendas over good writing and enjoyable characters. If people didnt push agendas, people wouldnt need to use that word to call people out. We wish you'd stop pushing agendas too. Please stop so we can have our well written shows back. Thank you.
@@BatmanGuy-xk9pr So by that "logic", the Lady Ballers movie, Mr Bircham show, and the Yellowstone movie are "woke" as hell too. Or oh wait, its only for left wing agendas because of course it is, right? According to grifters 🙄

Freaking agree!! Tired of all of this nonsense forced SJW woke agendas pushing into movies and games. Plus comics it’s getting out of control.
Agree
This show had great promise until I started to watch it. The wokeness is off the charts. Why is Montoya acting like Gordon in the 1940s, a time when women had a distinct role in society. And that's without bringing to attention the plus size individuals in these episodes. However, Clayface was nice. It was nice seeing him use his acting prowess and his motives were understandable. He had some good one liners. I hated the woman who was kidnapped being so nonchalant about dying. I really hope they get rid of the wokeness and start focusing on making good stories. It had the potential to be a good episode but the subplot was not on. Also, what did they do to Alfred and Bruce's relationship? Shameful.
Keep it up Kwing. We are all with you brother. Been watching u for like a decade. Drop some more lore videos once in a while.
I honestly don't like this show, Batman hardly shows up, they don't do proper adaptations of the character and if they change the character at all they do it in a poor way which doesn't work. This show isn't for me, it's not my Batman

The show has a mix of 40s and 2020s Hair styles, which feels jarring.
But Today's animators are lazy, they don't fully commit to being authentic. Just passing grade, instead of aiming for an A grade.
Its a very common practice in Western Animation. Heman did it too and that show was based after 70s and 80s hair styles.

For me, it's people overhyping this show. And them barely showing batman.
I know right?? In this series they're treating Batman like a side character. Doesn't get enough screentime.
I actually kind of like this part. It makes Batman feel more mysterious and epic when he's about to pop out from the shadows
Yeah I am conflicted on that as I came to see Batman as it's his show but one the other hand it makes him feel more methodical and almost creepy.
Plus it gives more side characters more meat too them which was my slight gripe with BTAS.

@@sup3414it matters because it promotes being healthy and happy instead of out of shape and depressed that's why it matters.

Yes a very Batman centered Episode and it's pretty well executed too.

They lie because they can't face the truth. They are cowards.
I'm always with ya Luke
One thing i hate about the show is b plot is so drag.
Yup its annoying aspect of it. Though Ep3, Ep6 and Ep8 are very Bruce Wayne focused.
The rest not so much. But those 3 Episodes are moving in the right direction
Overall like I said I feel the whole show is kinda an 7 or 8 out of 10 it's just okay which isn't bad.
Love your reviews Kwing keep up the good work
Also, I don't think I see this complaint a lot, but the animation feels really, REALLY flat to me. Like, compare this to Justice League: Gods & Monsters. The latter has better lighting, more detail, and less stilted character models. Even JLU, which aired 20 years ago, looks 10 times better. It's like, ever since The Killing Joke, Bruce Timm's artistic prowess has declined considerably.
I thought I was the only one who picked up on that. Not sure on the actual animation, haven't seen enough of the show yet but the ART STYLE is just sooo damn BLAAAND😭. The characters look BORING and WEIRD all at the the same time and everything just looks so as you said FLAT
The is SUPPOSED to be a noire Batman series right? Yet it doesn't seem like it has that vibe at all. The Art Direction is so STALE on top of all the modern takes of the characters. It doesn't fit the asthetic AT ALL😭
Yeah, I was hoping for the style to be grainier and more reminiscent of the era it’s trying to portray. Instead everything feels to clean and modern
It feels to me like the animation is too crisp and clean. They should have made it more grainy and dark.
Great review man
Thanks

Don't pay attention to the haters Kwing, you always have been and forever shall remain my favourite RUclipsr! ❤
First of all, anyone throwing hate at you can kick rocks. That's all i'll say about that as you said not to provoke them.
I LOVED this episode and it's probably my favorite. It seems you were bored by the police procedural stuff and I can understand that as it's not for everyone. I liked how they showed the dynamic within the police force as Montoya is a good cop but she's getting harassed by the others. Also, I wouldn't say she IMMEDIATELY suspects Bruce Wayne though she's leaning against him for sure. Any cop worth their salt are going to lean on the very last person who was with a victim of a kidnapping like that. It's not personal, it's business.
I liked that Batman thinks Montoya is a good cop AND he's bugged her. Remember this is early in his career and he hasn't interfaced with GCPD much if at all. He needs to get a lay out of who he can trust or at the very least respect in a rather corrupt police department.
I agree with you on Basil Karlo/Clayface here. It seems they were going for a Phantom of the Opera deal as you noted. I think they've done that better in other Batman media and this was a little hamfishted but you get the idea of who Karlo is and what he's about. I think they could've slanted it more towards his looks causing the frustration with his lot in life rather than being all simpy.
I liked that Batman was more in the background in this episode as when he DOES show up he makes a big impact. I loved some of the call backs to Old Hollywood especially the part where Batman and Karlo are swashbuckling on the stairs which reminded me of a similar scene in The Mark of Zorro between Tyrone Power and Basil Rathbone. Clayface had a very depressed view of himself in some ways and he carried himself like a regal/noble being but his actions belied his false face.
Batman doesn't show up a ton early in the season but as the season goes on he does get more involved. I think what the writers were trying to do was flesh out Gotham City, establish who everyone is and how they fit into the world and with Batman. In a lot of ways this whole season was one that shows how Batman became a part of Gotham and the way he fits into it. I think they wanted to gradually make him a huge presence for when You Know Hahahaha Who shows up in S2 as the main villain.
BTW the more that I think about it episode 3 is probably all-around better than this one but I still like this better for the police procedural/investigative stuff. Keep up the good work and look forward to your next review.
Next Review is still a few days away. But glad you liked listening to this one

They had unique personalities and quirks that made them standout to the audience. Bullock would constantly be eating Donuts. Renee would roll her eyes or smile at Him mocking like. It was funny. Hi Kwings!
Badly written show bub. 2/10 Not fun to watch. Many characters personalities were changed to be just rediculous or beyond annoying. Hard Pass. This was supposed to be Batman 😅 what happened DC 😅
I liked this episode because I really liked this version of Clayface, but this episode is a prime example of a show about Batman barely featuring him. I don't mind this version of Montoya, though I don't like the new design, but she shouldn't be the focus over Batman. Back to Clayface, I like this new origin of him being an ugly actor who desires to be the leading man and willingly undergoes the treatment that turns him into the monster. I really liked his design with the clay face and the costume of the serial killer Clayface from the 40s comics. This was a villain reimagining that worked really well, unlike Penguin and Harley.
Please keep up the content you & Amber are my favorite youtubers 😊
Fantastic review Kwing always appreciate hearing your thoughts
Bro Bruce was the last person to see her that’s why he was a suspect like cmon
The subplot with Montoya. Yes subplot… I think you should put in quotation because it’s obvious that she’s an A plot and Batman and his fights and detective work are B plot. That’s how they intended it. Episode still good overall but still😅
why is Bruce so disrespectful towards Alfred and calls him every time on his last name?
I really enjoyed the references to the late Lon Chaney in this episode. Karlo pretty much looks like Chaney, his Clayface appearance looks like the Phantom of the Opera, and there was a scene with a movie being filmed and actor playing the villain looked like Chaney from his lost film London After Midnight. It was a nice homage to the man of 1000 faces.
I really enjoyed the show personaly, but ep 2 wasn't great. Really liked Clayface's design. Reyne is fine, she's not great tho.
Don't get the hate, it's an honest review, regardless if you agree the point was to be honest about your thoughts witch you did.
Yah people should be allowed to have opinions.
Batman does all the fighting while Montoya does all the detective work*
To be fair from the beginning Bruce says he's using Montoya to get the job done more easily.
He's trailing her. When he realizes she put herself in a bad position he came in to help. He was using her as a way to see what she can do and if she's someone he can trust.
Let the lady do all the heavy lifting while he does the leg work.
Work smarter not harder.
Batman is a better detective
@@DragonGirl_17 this is a young Batman though. For instance, an older Batman wouldn't have completely taken off the board for Thorne to take more of the Gotham underworld. He's going to make some mistakes and again, he's feeling out the situation.
I like that Clayface did a villain monologue because it plays into how he's an actor who does exclusively villain roles, hamming it up as an actual villain.
Ok
The episode was a 6/10 not enough Batman, he acts like a blundering fool sometimes. The villain origin is horrifying, the writers could have made it such a better origin. How about this Batman is chasing firefly & firefly attacks the studio and uses his torch to burn men & woman, Batman decides to save that stuck up actress instead of karlo and karlo handsome looks are no more. Now it makes sense why he gets the treatment why he hates Batman. The writers could have put in that the company fired him because he's ugly. He's a nobody, so you can see why karlo wants to kill the people who fired him. Not some simpy whiney villain story. And firefly doesn't have to be the villain for the episode no pun attended he could fly away. My God give the villain a good story geez 🤦🤦🤦🤦🤦. Thanks for the vid kwing God bless you
Wow
When Brave and the Bold made a Batman Show that's not strictly about him, it was a great chance to meet other characters who rarely or never got a major adaptation. Blue Beetle, Green Arrow (Justice league member, but hardly a top biller animation-wise), Booster Gold, Red Tornado, Animal Man and Vixen, Hawkman, etc. Same goes for the villains. When you get past the subversion for subversion's sake, this is just another Batman Show with less of a hook than most that came before, including all of Tim's previous shows.
I agree this introduced me to many underrated dc characters.
Yeah kinda miss shows like that
Yah but that was done well. This show wasn't also Batman wasnt pushed to the side in Brave and the Bold. It was always clear he was the main character. In the caped crusader islts the bruce and babs show. Batman shouldn't be sharing the spotlight in his own show.
Spoilerish comment
I hated the penguin so after she was done for the season the show actually got better for me. Its a serviceable 6.5 outta 10. I wasnt watching a 1940s documentary so the creative liberty's didnt bother me that much personally. I basically blame JJ Abrams the I.P destoryer for every virtue signaled plot on season one.
You’re aware executive producers have nothing to do with shows right? They just put thier name on it.
@@knoober3756 we dont know what's said behind closed doors.
@@MJWP2334 you’re blaming an executive producer, which again has no creative influence on what the show or film ends up doing💀
@@knoober3756 so you're telling me an executive producer cant influence a writer or writing team..🙄😉
@@MJWP2334 nah, just not apart of the writing staff. Shogun is a perfect example of that.
I enjoyed this episode much more. The black Gordons hardly show up, and it gave Montoya time to shine. What I loved most how it brought Clayface down to his Golden Age roots where he's simply a psychopathic killer with a disfigured face while also including some elements from other adaptations. Still, it's a little distracting how many POCs appear in prominant positions. I could get black cops and lawyers and Latina detectives, but a black bombshell actress in Hollywood? A black director? Really?
10:19 I dont follow this statement like is it bad that Batman found these bodies because of happenstance?
Like why is that bad in particular I dont get it.
It a new take on two face now the normal face is bad and the two face is good why can’t you except change man, joke
I wouldn't say Two Face is a Good Guy. He did a Nice thing at the End, but did a lot of bad before that.
He's similar to TellTale Harvey, still this video is about Clayface. Two Face Episode Arc is weeks away for a Review vid.
@@kNIGHTWING01similar to Telltale? I mean I can see it in story beats with whole mayoral campaign and getting split only after accident. But rest of execution of this character is different. Well guess I have to wait for your finale review to see your full thoughts.
Because not all change is good unlike what you shills think. -_-
@@jlev1028 I was joking
@@kNIGHTWING01 that what a lot of people are saying
I enjoyed this video a lot more as opposed to the first one disregarding the beginning. I do think the series peaks with Episode 3 and while I enjoy the rest of the series, to each their own, I’m more attuned to reading the comics mostly anyway and as long as I can revisit the old stories I’m content. The “God bless, happy gaming” at the end really took me back to your Lego Batman 2 days - I remember you responding to a comment once when I needed with the split screen multiplayer settings as I experienced lag. I digress, we may not share the same views but you were an active part of my childhood and I thank you for that. :)
Beginning was important to use those folks as an example. No way people can misunderstand, atleast I hope not. Very clear.
I agree about Episode 3 as well. CC Needed more like That. Maybe S2
@@kNIGHTWING01 I can never fully empathize with you since you have a way bigger audience than me so I can understand it’s not as easy as “just ignore it dude lol” because it’s probably been bothering you for years. I think the reactions you provide might very well encourage them to continue which is why I disregarded the beginning and enjoyed the actual content. Your thoughts on a piece of media is a lot better than some trolls trying to get a reaction out of you.
The reason everyone is acting nicer is BECAUSE Luke put those hateful comments at the beginning.
this episode of clayface was ok i remember saying this was trash I forgot one thing about tv shows some are good and others are bad I'm going to sit back and watch Catwoman episode 3 with a hot cup of ☕ like watching and listening to your videos I'm not really good on writing in the comments
Calls Clayface's origin a subplot. In a episode about clayface. And I'm supposed to take your criticisms seriously when you misrepresente the show constantly? Especially in the beginning of this "review" where you gave the reason why Bruce is being interrogated, and you make it a Race issue.
The only person making anything a race issue is you. Get a life dude
Yeah that was a crazy take. She interrogated him because she was him, it’s common sense to talk to Bruce
This show is awesome 😎
Uhhh ok lol 😅
I like this show a lot the animation and style of it reminds me a lot of the spawn animated show by hbo and Todd McFarlane so I like it
Except that show was a lot more visually interesting. Other than the focus on side characters, I don't see the resemblance.
The whole Batman not being in the show criticism is wild considering year one has the same criticism and is one of the best Batman stories ever told. Year one is a Gordon story with Batman being the catalyst for everything happening, same with this show. It starts with Batman arresting the penguin and everything befalls the GCPD. Reacting to Batman’s existence. You also gotta remember, Brubaker wrote Gotham central, so it’s not exactly surprising that they’re focusing on the GCPD especially when all of the characters are good. Even though I don’t agree with how they did bullock, him and flass are at least a solid conflict for Gordon throughout.
Difference is writing
@@spoopy5411 not necessarily, each of the episodes have engaging subplots.
@@spoopy5411and this has good writing too. Give me an example of bad writing in the show
@@scrapanimation3813Two-Face, Penguin, Harley Quinn, Catwoman, Batman/Alfred's relationship, Barbara Gordon, the Robins, Harvey Bullock... see just because you make a drastic change doesn't make it a unique let alone good one....
@@knoober3756 Honestly the only episodes I really liked are the ones that were in the pov of batman however I feel like everything else was kinda meh but that's my opinion.
Did you know that Golden Age Batman strung up a criminal attached to the Batwing, and when he's dead Batman is like "he's probably better off this way", I even remember that he punched a criminal into a vat of acid in his 1st appearance with him saying "a fitting end for his kind" , there's always a find your footing when beginning a character. As for the episode, there are people who make a mountain out of a molehill, a little problem looking like a big problem when it's not. (looking at you Clayface)
Yes, Goldenage Batman Killed People and did One Liners. Tbh it's not my favorite Age. I like Bronze more and Batman's No Kill Rule. 40s Batman was more or less Keaton too, to some extent in the movies. Bob Kane was a consultant on that Movie. So guess it makes sense.
@@kwingsletsplays I remember watching a Fanscription video and it mentioned how each different version of Batman was a domino effect of reactions from the previous iterations. And hey, at least that age you liked returned to the dark roots of the character and try to go the more personal, psychological stories that gave people insight into many characters.
4:48 wasn’t it because he was the last known person who was with the kidnapped victim? Key witness? Wasn’t sure if that was a joke or you missed that…
That was the reason.
He saw her last
If you watch the show to the end the build up to Harvey Don't becoming Two face is great and he had a similar motivation to the golden age Two face but it was disappointing that two face died .
My thing is if you hate the show just don't watch it because you're going to give it another season and then you go to the plane about that season. Again the cast and crew literally said they're shaking up the universe to tell new stories, and Bruce timm created Harley Quinn so he can do whatever he wants with her including changing her race
He never said he didn't like the show. If you don't like someone's opnion don't comment if your comment is in ignorance
@@shadow-gr4iw he said he's mix about the show. He gave the whole entire season watching it the first time a 7/10. Now mind you he was sleepy so maybe that's why he gave it a high rating. The caped crusader has good episodes but it has so many flaws it's concerning.
If you hate kwing and you hate batman stop writing hateful comments on his videos and stop promoting terrible shows that are made by people that hate their fans. See i can do it too.

The Renee subplot was Bruce not knowing how to detective so he bugs Renee and cheats off her homework
He knows how to be a Detective, He was just using Renee. Episode 2 was an alright Episode. Could be better. Renee Drags plot a little, but the Batman and Clayface stuff was still interesting.
Yeah Batman really needs her help 😂😂😂😂 okay lol
@@kwingsletsplays They definitely convey that well later, just not this episode is more what I meant

That's your opinion, mine says Mid.
But if you like it, cool.
You say comments don't get lost? Ok. I'mma put it to the test. Whether you answer here *or* make a video (because the comparisons alone are video worthy I find):
Having seen Caped Crusader, what say you about Batman the Audio Adventures? That show also blends 40s retro with elements of the 50s, 60s, and modern tech as well and even has black actors playing white characters (it is a radio drama so they have more flexibility). Yet Batman Audio does not divide or insult the audience. But what say you to that?
Batman the Audio Adventures is on every platform from youtube to Spotify and it needs FAR more recognition.
My guy he doesn't have a problem with black actors voicing white characters he's a problem with completely swapping the characters race in physical media just for the sake of a checklist rather than making them fleshed out and interesting characters lol
@BatmanDCEU
Mate I am in the same boat. I merely mentioned the cast strictly because of an apples to apples situation where actors were race swapped as well.
I'm actually firmly against the DEI changes they made for this new show BECAUSE they were done for the sake of it. That and Batman the Audio Adventures needs FAR more recognition even within the Bat fandom.
I listened to the Radio Drama a few years ago. I thought it wasn't bad. I didn't finish it though.
I don't have a problem with a good sounding voice actor playing a Established Character. Long as that character stays the same, any Man and Can voice Batman. Provided they have a talented and Dark sound to their voice. Im picky about that.
Phill Lamar one of my favorite Voice Actors, plays a lot of White and Asian Characters. But plays them the way thier suppose to be. I can't picture anyone else playing Samurai Jack or Aquaman in my head.
I agree the Radio Adventures needed more love, but i prefer Animated Batman projects. Listening to Radio makes Me tired for some reason.
If your comment is really stupid or rude everyone will downvote it and it will be held for review. Don't you know how comments work? It's not even up to the content creator. That's hoe comments work everywhere.
