I try to explore different visions of a Taniwha, sometimes depicted as more reptile or more shark. I'm having a lot of fun with this concept of sea creatures, I don't exclude the possibility of drawing others or redesigning these two.
In the end, I started to imagine a little story...
J'essaie d'explorer différentes visions d'un Taniwha, parfois représenté comme plus reptile ou plus requin. Je m'amuse beaucoup avec ce concept de créatures marines, je n'exclus pas la possibilité d'en dessiner d'autres ou de redessiner ces deux-là.
Finalement, j'ai commencé à imaginer une petite histoire...
Gorgeous creature concepts! I love seeing monster-like characteristics added to real animals. You're always so good at drawing dynamic poses, too.

Beautiful! Personally i like to reference Maori carvings of Taniwha when drawing the faces, just because its more recognizable to a Maori audience.

@@ShadowDragon_616 i drew a transformers oc with a taniwha as his alt mode (his name's Toawhenua !!), and i think the best references/art are childrens books honestly 😭

@@cam-art Taniwha is based down here in NZ, we grew up with the legends! They're based off sea serpents and local Eels, hence the more reptilian look! Highly recommend googling about the stories, A lot of sub legends have them as brothers who are spirits of bodies of water. Google has a lot of different art and references regarding to appearances etc. I love your adaptation that gives it a crocidile/prehistoric vibe, much like a raging demigod. Animatic was beautiful

Haha yes ! 😄 It was not planned, he was supposed to have a sea lion/shark head, but I had the feeling it was missing something on his head... My first reference for the head features was Khanivore from "Sonnie's Edge", then I tried to put a fin and I realized the similarities with Red... and I liked it ☺
