Yeah the lack of penetration isn't a guarantee you're going to survive. It's the same reason why the fatalities in old cars (before airbags, crumple zones, etc) are higher. After impact, all that energy has to go somewhere.
So what you’re saying, is if I put a 5/8” aluminum plate in front of my 3A Kevlar, I now have rifle armor! *runs off before you can tell me that’s not the same thing*.
you should put some of those Shock Indicator Labels that they put on packages to see what it has been through. i think they have some pretty high g loading sensors. it would be vey interesting to see what kinda of force we would see on the other side of the vest!
The strike face I think is a good application of steel. Lamination is good, and fragmentation containment is good. It's downfall is the cost and only single curve..
5/8 steel? or 5/8ths total thickness for everything? I'm fairly certain you can't really go past 1/4" steel to wear comfortably. I've thought about some sort of mosiac cermamic pattern on the back and sandwich it together with welding blanket and resin..
Awesome video man. I would definitely like to hear more UHMWPE backer. There just wasn't enough. Can never have too much UHMWPE backer 😂 as always though great video with great info. Just curious, what is the fps and ballistic coefficiency on the banana in the intro?
I wish I could’ve fit more in the video lol. Way too much for sure! I believe it was going around 69 fps, but I wasn’t able to get an accurate ballistic coefficient on that banana
Which plate carrier was that? First time watching one of your videos and absolutely LOVED it! Plenty of pews, info, and comedy! I’ll be watching more of them 👍👍
I really like that you're testing it in a proper carrier rather than just taped to or leaned against some kind of backer. How do you think this plate would perform inside a 3a standalone vest that supports armor plates (or backed with 3a soft armor)?
I love that you’re doing plates now. I have the A2 AR500 plate with the frag wrap (not the build up) and I’ve been curious how that steel holds up. Also afaik no one has actually done a video on their frag wraps, which are a new product. They save weight, are cheaper, and are replaceable, which is neat.
Your voice sounds like you would look like a middle-aged scientist or somebody like that but instead you look like one of my little brothers friends. Good video though.
Interesting channel. I watch your videos just to see. Sometimes I don't. Like shooting hunting rounds with soft tip at steel. Why? You don't get any useful data on it. Keep up the great work.
I think he’s either sabotaged his copper bullets or he put a curse on them!!! Other channels I’ve seen them let cartridges penetrate armor they shouldn’t. Ive seen copper 9mm go through level 2A. I’ve seen .357 copper rounds go through level 2. I’ve seen copper .44 mag go through a level 3A. I’ve seen a .416 rigby solid brass go through a level 4. It seemed like copper/brass let you level up your gun
Why keep making excuses for hitting to close to the edge? It clearly demonstrates that the plate does not protect the entire area that it covers, the outer 1-2" of the plate perimeter is vulnerable. I'd want to know that if I was choosing armor and comparing the options.
Damn! how many times do want to get hit before you call it quits? That's one of the problems with AR500 armor, nobody stands there like a ballistics gel dummy waiting to get hit in the face
I haven't dealt with their customer service, as my own order had no problems. Yes, it took longer than Amazon Prime, but it didn't seem to be an unreasonable amount of time to me. Expect a dented/mangled shipping box though, as the package handlers and delivery drivers usually forget to look at the weight label until after they've already dropped the box from it being unexpectedly heavy.
Lol that 300 win mag yeah may not penetrate but it delivered enough energy to stop the heart for sure
I would be interested to see if it broke one of those meters on mythbusters
Yeah the lack of penetration isn't a guarantee you're going to survive. It's the same reason why the fatalities in old cars (before airbags, crumple zones, etc) are higher. After impact, all that energy has to go somewhere.
"let's see if you're ok" *flops over dead* this is top tier comedy. Also thanks for the armor reviews, very good info 👍
I love your videos man! I’m a ballistics nerd lol, so seeing different cartridges on mild steel is super interesting.
Let’s Go BANANAS!!!
So what you’re saying, is if I put a 5/8” aluminum plate in front of my 3A Kevlar, I now have rifle armor! *runs off before you can tell me that’s not the same thing*.
Awesome video . Terry still pretty tough he didn't flinch with every shot. Cheers from Canada 🍻.
Indeed, just wait for the next testing video with Tear-y. He didn’t like it so much lol
@@bananaballistics can't wait
Great video!
You should consider getting orange (or fill in color of your choice) stickers to cover holes so you know where new shots are.
Very true, thanks for the idea!
@@bananaballistics you got it home skillet! Keep up the awesome videos. Loving it
I'm impressed.
The plate looked like it was smiling at the end!
I love it when you Tell The Gel...
😂 You're 🤣 gonna 🤣 be 🤣 fine 😂
We know better, Tear-y!!!
nice...light weight and effective

Hey Banana? Yeah, HR wants to know if Terry signed the Range bodily harm waiver. Thhhaankks
The strike face I think is a good application of steel. Lamination is good, and fragmentation containment is good. It's downfall is the cost and only single curve..
I've been kicking around the idea of a ⅝ inch plate with a Kevlar backing (potential spall) and a foam pad to soften the punch.
That would probably be a very heavy setup lol
@@bananaballistics
It might be heavy, but you're far less likely to have to worry about getting penned by multiple rounds that hit too close together.

Good stuff! I bet that shot on the edge would have completely destroyed his left shoulder....probably darn near blow the whole arm off!
I'm betting not even duct tape would fix it. 😒
I think you’re right!

@@bananaballistics you need to get an ammo manufacturer to make you some banana shot. Like buckshot but with bananas.
Which plate carrier was that? First time watching one of your videos and absolutely LOVED it! Plenty of pews, info, and comedy! I’ll be watching more of them 👍👍
Second plate was AR500 level 3+ lightweight plate
I really like that you're testing it in a proper carrier rather than just taped to or leaned against some kind of backer.
How do you think this plate would perform inside a 3a standalone vest that supports armor plates (or backed with 3a soft armor)?
A big budge says that would f'n hurt
I think polymer body armor will get cheaper over time.
Would love if you could do a special episode on 9x39mm. I know its hard to come by now but love your analysis and breakdown of cartridges.

Well I and few people I know actually DID thanks
I’ll have to see if I could test those out. They seem pretty interesting for sure
They definitely did their homework on that plate, sucker stopped the 300 Win Mag dead in its tracks!
I was genuinely shocked
Hope Terry is getting danger pay LOL. Keep up the awesome content cheers in Canada 🍻.

Thank you
26" barrel you say? What platform is that :D
justice for terry. LOL
im going to hear "UHMWPE Backer" in my sleep
It’s forever engrained in my mind lol
So would the A1 also do the same?
Your voice sounds like you would look like a middle-aged scientist or somebody like that but instead you look like one of my little brothers friends. Good video though.
Wow 😳
Excellent video Double B. ❤
But you need a 50 BMG to do a real test once it's 50% garbage. 😮
I agree, a 50 bmg needs to be in the future
Awesome
If a company manufacturing body armor does not use graphene, I will not even consider it.
A3....or 3A???
TERRY NOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!
These things are like rubbers, the ladies always say safe sex, never could get one over my ears.
Call me crazy but I swear I felt my iPad move when that 300 Win Mag hit the plate carrier!!! 😂🤷🏼♂️
Interesting channel. I watch your videos just to see. Sometimes I don't. Like shooting hunting rounds with soft tip at steel. Why? You don't get any useful data on it. Keep up the great work.
Would be pretty cool to see how it would hold up to .22-250 😏 lol
Or 220 swift
He’s sooo used to saying “mild steel”, it’s blasphemy to say it’s hardened!!!
I think he’s either sabotaged his copper bullets or he put a curse on them!!!

Man you must get a 50bmg rifle
Damn! how many times do want to get hit before you call it quits? That's one of the problems with AR500 armor, nobody stands there like a ballistics gel dummy waiting to get hit in the face
$400 a plate...oof...but better than the ded I suppose
You will survive but when you get hit by big rounds you wont forget that the first days.. it punch the hell out of you.
😅😅😅 thats why I shoot a .338 norma mag😮😮😮
❤👍
❤👏👍👌💪🌏
👍🍌🍌🍌👍
Think I'd rather have ar550 plate, this plate is gonna break your rib or sternum if u get shot.
Learn to aim.
I would like to see you test those plates against M855A1, 308AP and 30-06 AP. My guess is they go straight through.
Armored Republic customer service sucks!! Plus..they take forever to ship to you, and mess up your order.
