Thank you Terry, appreciate it! Yeah the pebble dance at The Knap doesn't get any easier does it haha. I rarely blank at Jackson's Bay and even if I do, I always get bites and hopefully you will too. Gareth
Great video ! I had my best days fishing at Jackson’s Bay about 20 years ago, blue sky, no wind and a fish a chuck ! We were a bit worried about going onto the breakwater past the fence but it appears it’s still ok and you don’t get stopped. Just getting back into fishing after a 7 years break so I’ll consider going there soon. Keep the videos coming !
Thank you Jonny, glad you enjoyed the video! Yeah I love Jackson's Bay, one of my favourite spots, many great memories of fishing there over the years. Sounds like you had a great session that day, fish a chuck, can't fault it! Good luck with your fishing comeback, hopefully we'll have some good fishing this Autumn and Winter. Cheers for watching 👍👍
Sounds great Howard, I bet the fishing back in the 50's was amazing and it's nice you still have the photos. When I was a kid we used to get some cracking Whiting/Codling down there in the winter but sadly, numbers have declined over the years. Gareth
Cracking video mate, nice to see a local mark. I spent a lot of time there as a child, fishing and foraging my father was a member of the yacht club many moon's ago. Keep up the good work
Thank you Angus, appreciate the comment. Like yourself, I spent a lot of time their with my dad when he was alive, lots of good memories and some good fish over the years. Cheers 👍👍
Barry Island terrain and fishing grounds are very similar in places to Anglesey, and exact same methods as your using. Bass and eel caught at monkey today, mint, I'm going tomorrow.
@@riversidewithme I blanked, but caught a huge dose of vitamin D today. I went under city bridge. Thank you Andrew, pleased to hear you've been enjoying the videos. I'm no expert but some marks you could try are Friars Point in Barry, The Knap (pebble beach) in Barry, Ogmore Deeps which is close to Porthcawl and Porthcawl Pier itself. There are loads of marks but the ones I have mentioned are accessible and fairly straightforward. Good luck 👍
Another great video, thanks. Living in the midlands, its great to be shown decent marks by locals willing to share. Where can you park for the best and nearest access to here ?
Thank you Alan, much appreciated. You could used to park along Redbrink Crescent but now it's residential only. I suggest you park at Nell's point carpark, follow the footpath around to Jackson's Bay, cross the beach and walk up the rocks and around the railings (take your time when walking around the railings). The walk will take around 15 minutes or so, not too bad really. Hope that helps. Cheers 👍👍
Hi Gareth have you fished off the Sandy beach? I’ve noticed that there’s a deep part virtually in line where you were on the rocks. I don’t fancy climbing around the railing!!
Hi Rod, yes I have fished off the beach many times and caught a lot of fish too. Couple of things to bear in mind...the beach is busy during nice weather and so early mornings and evenings would be best. Much quieter in winter though. Also, the sand starts getting a bit soft the further out you walk but it's mostly fine. And you can always fish off the rocks directly opposite where I was fishing on the other side of the beach, if you don't fancy walking around the railings 👍
So I’ve been down to see the mark after enjoying the video but couldn’t work out how to get to the old railway lines. It’s gates and locked with very imposing fencing. The only way I could see to get up there is to clamber over some dodgy, ankle snapping boulders. Can you fish on the beach it looks gorgeous. Please tell me/us how you got to the mark. Thanks for your videos. I’m a local boy who needs to learn a lot! Thanks
I'm glad you're enjoying the videos, much appreciated! If the gates are locked then you have to climb around the rocks unfortunately. The Association of British Ports who own that land are happy for anglers to do so providing no rubbish etc is left. However, if you're not comfortable with climbing up those rocks then you can fish off the beach itself or you can walk across the beach and fish off the flatter rocks, which are right opposite to where I was fishing in the video. If fishing off the beach, just be mindful that it can get busy on weekends during the summer months and so early morning/evenings would be best. Any of those three spots will produce fish, they can all fish well on their day. Others marks in Barry are Friars point (to the right of Whitmore Bay) and the pebble beach at The Knap. Personally, I prefer Jackson's Bay as I rarely blank there.
Yeah I’ve just come to sea fishing and have been going to Cold Knap because it’s easy to park and get to but it’s hard to cast with limited pebble slope. That’s why your videos are so useful for someone like me to find those marks close to us Valley Boys . Ta
@@cgws3064Yeah the Knap can be a tricky venue to fish at times. Maybe you could also try some of the Newport marks such as Goldcliff and St Brides. They are quite easy marks as you just fish off the sea wall defence.
Hi Gareth Just came over from aus,to visit my daughter, love fishing in Aussie land. Can you recommend a rod and reel, for type of fishing. Notice you use 2/0 long shank. Can you recommend a good tackle store, local to me. Do i need a licence?.
Thanks John, I appreciate it and I'm pleased that you're enjoying the videos. As for tackle shops, try either Dave Richards or Gary Evans, both of which are in Newport, South Wales and are excellent shops. I use line, 20lbs breaking strain with a length of 50lb shock leader and I would recommend using a two or three hook flapper rig with size 2/0 Aberdeen hooks (Kamasan or Sakuma brand) As for a rod and reel, the guys in the tackle shop will help you with this, opt for a rod between 12 and 14ft in length, that can cast a weight upto 6oz or above. You don't need a licence to fish in the sea in the UK, so no problem there. Hope that helps a little 👍👍

@@riversidewithme Hi mate, exact same place you were fishing lol. I think they main issue was when reeling bait in, it got snagged on the rocks underneath
