An example of how an admirably sublime interpretation by virtuosic-intense-precise singer and orchestra is disrupted rather than supported by an either careless or clueless direction, and stage and costume setting.
Yes, definitely something to listen to with the picture scrolled off the top of the screen. A shame, because Lea Desandre can fit perfectly into almost any scene. It seems that Hippolyte et Aricie brings out the worst in modern producers. The recent Glyndebourne production was far worse than this, with a final scene where H and A were portrayed as ghosts on trolleys in a morgue. I think the miserable producers just can't take on board the idea that the Phaedra plot might have a happy ending, and I can understand that -- but why is their response so childishly hideous?
Always delightful singing from this most talented lady. Not so sure about the contemporary setting - perhaps even opera productions are following the woke/green band wagon and getting the message out there. I think Rameau would have been pleased.
@@MOSS88ify I have seen the whole opera, and no, the production is crassly stupid throughout, doing its best to ruin the opera through the infantile whimsy of a producer whose only concern is to get his dirty fingerprints all over everything. Lockdown is constantly used as an excuse for idiocy. By the way, I've also seen the Glydebourne production of the same opera and would you believe, it's even worse. Poor Léa, singing so wonderfully in such dire circumstances.

Absolutely disagree
Quel charme se dégage de son chant ! C'est magique .
Can this woman be any more perfect???❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Fabulous voice!
Utterly beautiful in every way.

@@RalphHancock ...and who could forget the chorus singing from an oversized fridge in Act One?
@@R_Jackson I wish I could. H & A will never be quite the same in my memory, permanently spoilt by a producer's muddy footprints.
Qu'il chante bien ce joli rossignol.
magique magique magique
oh la la je ne m’en lasse pas, c’est dingue ce que tu fais Lea
so wunderschön !!!!!!!! Perfect !!!! wonderful !!!!
Beautiful!
Absolutely beautiful - thank you! greetings from SouthAfrica.
I can only imagine how the nightingales respond to Lea when she signs.
Toujours aussi beau
Love this opera
Danke schön!!! Bamberg
Ich danke auch! Nürnberg 😀
Sad thing here ? No one in the theatre to applaud on the beautiful singing, way too sad for the nightingale
Thank you Lea for your wonderful singing, Christmas greetings from Stony Stratford.

merci :)

What exactly is "woke" about this?
Desandre excellent as always. Poor set design.
I suggest you see the whole opera, it will make sense (remember created during lock down).

Beautiful music, very good singer, horrible staging
