    Great video and your cakes are fabulous! Just a tip, when you do a strip of fondant with cutouts in it, place it in the fridge or freezer for a bit to firm up and it won’t stretch when you wrap it around the cake.

    This is beautiful! Thank you! I have a question. I always do my crumb coat frosting first and then stick the cake in the fridge or freezer. Then i put my final buttercream layer on. However, lately, I've been finding that the crumb coat layer keeps showing through and so i go back to patch it and it still shows through! what am i doing wrong?

    • @TheLovelyBaker
      @TheLovelyBaker  6 лет назад +3

      This happens to me all the time!! I think it just comes down to being a little more heavy handed when applying the final ice and watching the pressure when using your bench scraper. To be real though, sometimes I have re-iced like 3 times and still I manage to scrape too much away....it's just one of those things that happens to all of us:)

    I have never been a Mickey Mouse or Minnie mouse fan. I know humbug me, but I have to day, this is the prettiest Minnie mouse cake I have ever seen. Maybe it’s because the colors aren’t obnoxiously blaring, or that it’s just done so very clean and well. Once again you have nailed it! Fantastic job, it’s beautiful :) if you would ever consider doing a Donald Duck cake, that would be awesome! ;)

    Hello, do u get condensation on ur cakes when u take them out of the fridge??

    • @thefancycakebox9601
      @thefancycakebox9601 5 лет назад

      Hi, Fondant will do that because it is adjusting to the temperature difference and if you are in a humid area. Place your cake in a cardboard box for a while after taking it out of the fridge and let it “sweat”. The cardboard will absorb it. Hope that helps!

      @TheLovelyBaker  6 лет назад

      Hey there! If you watch my Sonic the hedgehog cake video there is a step by step on how I covered the Styrofoam ball. I used Rolkem Super Gold Luster Dust. I get mine from a baking supply store but a ton of online stores sell it:)

      Jennifer A yes a little bit of vodka or lemon extract works for me, just enough to make a paint like consistency.

    Why do you use shortening? The only time I was ever told to use it was just for dummy cakes. Otherwise why not just water, piping gel or edible glue? Does it make a difference?

    • @TheLovelyBaker
      @TheLovelyBaker  4 года назад +1

      For me it comes down to personal preference and what I'm using it for. I like to use shortening on certain things because it's more forgiving if you add a piece and aren't happy with the placement and need to move it around. Edible glue, water and piping gel will leave a mark on the fondant if you move it and it's harder to clean it up after, so if you've got shaky hands like me it can be more of a hassle. Sometimes those mediums are a better choice for certain projects if you really need something to stick and hold firm, but I usually go on a cake by cake basic lol. You can use whatever you feel comfortable with 😊
