    Just wanted to say I really love your channel and what you're doing, it's such a time saver to see these games side by side without having to load them, when you're trying to learn about their visual style, interface, or gameplay. Thank you very much!

    It's been a rough week...Anyways, I've not played much Alien Syndrome outside of the PS2 Sega Classics release. I have played both the arcade and the SMS version, but not very much and not on real hardware. The arcade version certainly is better all around. The Master System version isn't terrible, but also not amazing...more average than anything, IMO. The Arcade version is pretty great (and I like the PS2 version even though some people don't), while the SMS is more like just alright.

      I totally agree with your sentiments though I haven't played the PS2 version so I can't comment on that. But more importantly I hope everything is ok for you. Never feel obligated to comment but usually you're one of the first to comment on these videos so when I didn't see anything for a few days I thought something may be wrong. I'm pulling for you buddy that whatever it is gets better!

    Well, look at that!))
    I guess, I don't need to watch the full NES/SMS video, at least for the time being^^))
    From what I can see, SMS version had better sound effects (shooting, for example), but far less favorable music, unfortunately.
    Also, as far as it goes, sprites' movement on SMS is kinda superior, but the designs and the sprites' quality were kinda lucking in comparison to the NES port. And I'm totally can say that I'm not a fan of the fact that SMS-port had room-screens instead of free-roaming (don't get me wrong, I like that kind of level structure, for example, in the original Metal Gear, but here it's clearly not working as well as it did there). So yeah, I can see why people were saying that this port was the inferior one.

    • @RetroComparisons
      @RetroComparisons  4 месяца назад +1

      Very well said! You covered all bases so I guess the only thing I can add is that the gameplay felt slightly off compared to the NES port. Not in a super noticeable way but more if you play them back to back.

      @oldfan4049 4 месяца назад +1

      @@RetroComparisons actually, I can understand what you mean, 'cause originaly my comment was about that SMS had better sprites, colors but was kinda slow, but then I've decided to watch gameplay back to back...after which I've deleted the previous comment and wrote a new one. 😅 XDD

      @@oldfan4049 Haha! I still like the sprites on the SMS version, they just took different approaches for these 8 bit versions. But having said that I'd go arcade>NES>SMS

    The Master System feels like a generation ahead of the NES. If it would have been embraced like the NES, it would have been amazing.

    • @RetroComparisons
      @RetroComparisons  4 месяца назад +1

      The SMS is such a weird console with timing. It's pretty rare for a company to have 2 consoles during the same generation and they really knocked it out of the park with their second console in the 3rd generation. If it had better 3rd party support I think it could have been huge all over the world, not just in Brazil and parts of Europe.

      I'm from the UK and had a Master System. My dad organised it with no input from me. I actually wanted a NES. The TV ad's really caught my attention. It looked awesome. But, my dad wouldn't hear of it. This was remedied when I got an import Super Famicom in 1991.

      @@simon41978 Nintendo did have awesome NES commercials so I can see why. Either console was a great one to have though to be fair. That's awesome that you were able to get an import of the Super Famicom! I really wish I had imported some games for that and the Mega Drive in the late 90s/early 2000s when those games were ultra cheap.

Just imagine... you're flying your spaceship through the solar system, trying to beat the Soviets to Alpha Centauri, when suddenly your ship is invaded by a horde of wiggling kidneys. That was TRUE cosmic horror, I tell ya what!"

    Hey good video! Ok I see what you mean now with the NES vs MS ports of this game from yesterday's video. It seems maybe they rushed this port or something? I wonder what the issue was, but yeah the arcade port of this game would be my number 1 choice of all versions for sure.

    • @RetroComparisons
      @RetroComparisons  4 месяца назад +1

      Thanks buddy! Yeah it's really weird that the SMS, which almost always looks better than the NES and in many cases plays better too, was outdone. I'd love to know the story behind this conversion, which to be fair is still really good, just not as good.

    • @MKF30
      @MKF30 4 месяца назад +1

      @@RetroComparisons Yeah, I guess it depends on the game, how they optimize etc too. Yeah it's interesting how with certain ports of certain games for 8 bit and 16 bit consoles some seem rushed for either or both at times compared to the arcade ports of these games. That's true I wonder what the story was as well.

  • @SomeOrangeCat
    @SomeOrangeCat 4 месяца назад +1

    A very poor showing on the SMS, when we know for a fact that a great 8-bit port is indeed possible.

    • @RetroComparisons
      @RetroComparisons  4 месяца назад +1

      On its own I think it's a really good game/port but in comparison to the NES and of course the arcade it's third on the list IMO. I still really like this version though despite its shortcomings. Maybe it's the Sega fanboy in me.
