Maria Richwine starred in The Buddy Holly Story in 1978 playing the role of Buddy Holly's wife played by Gary Busey. She would star in other shows such as a.k.a. Pablo, but she would be a celebrity contestant on a couple of game shows I watch a lot on Telemundo. As of this writing, she's still around today.
So cool to be able to watch the original broadcast including the commercials. The whole experience was like talking a time machine back to 1979. Thanks so much for posting this! I look forward to seeing more.
Is it really a Quinn Martin production without Hank Simms reading the stars' and guest stars' names over the opening? This series really breaks the QM formula.
MICHELLE CAREY WHO VOICES A COMPUTER IN: A MAN CALLED SLOANE… WELL, SHE ALSO CAN BE HEARD SAYING: “ A MAN CALLED SLOANE… WILL RETURN.” JUST LISTEN. Kenneth Huang. 9/01/24.
I think this was the last QM show to go to series. He had really rotten luck in the late '70s (as the idiot networks kept ordering more and more pilots every year just to have stuff to dump, proceeded to order the worst shows in television history out of the pilots they had, and were then shocked when the crap they ordered to series bombed). This same year, he landed 3 pilot orders at CBS, and none of them were even made. The next 2 years, they were made, got passed on, and he gave up. Bob Conrad claimed Fred Silverman gave him a choice between this and another season of "The Duke." He chose this... because it guaranteed him 6 more paychecks.
The pilot movie for this had been done with another actor, Robert Logan. The network didn't want Logan because he was a nobody to them and demanded someone with a big name recognition like Conrad. The pilot movie with Logan finally aired a year after the series was cancelled.
"Death Ray 2000". What a title. That was actually the first episode of this I saw, believe it or not. I didn't watch it on original run. (I didn't miss much, obviously.)
Didn't help with the competition - it aired on Saturday nights against Fantasy Island, a Top 30 ranked show. Summer reruns resurfaced later on Friday night, but they never found a audience because it was scheduled at 10pm against Dallas, then ranked No.6 in the ratings.
Though he was still fit and aged nicely in his middle years, Conrad was never better looking than when he played James West in the 60's. I can understand him wanting to keep his career going, but this is nowhere near as good as his earlier spy series "Wild, Wild West."
If you're like me, and those last 20 minutes of really bad reception are beyond annoying, here's a Rube Goldbergian work around. This episode has also been uploaded - in french. Split your screen, mute the french dubbed version, and have its visuals cover this one. Frankly, the french dubbed version is blurry, but it's nowhere near as horrible as these last 20 minutes.
38:00 WOW great show, nice with the old commercials, brings me back but BRO... what the hell happened HERE!!!??? and ya just leave it for the rest of the show!!! nice... not gonna subscribe to THAT kind of nonsense.
Read the video description, bro. It was either this or leave it cut off where the tape recording ended. What would you rather I had done - post an incomplete 38 minutes of an hour show or fill in the rest with the best quality version available. (You try to find a better quality copy of it I’ll wait)
A Man Called Sloane, Will Continue in a moment!

I was so privileged to be able to meet him when I was a teenager
Was he nice to you??
Ha! A privilege! Do not believe so
Did you knock the battery off his shoulder.

This series really breaks the QM formula.
Most likely, qm got tired of that formula somehow. Ever since then, opening a credits have been without an announcer anyways.
Yeah, and no "Act I","Act II", "Epilogue" going on, either.
First time I’ve ever seen Earl Boen @12:05 with hair, but it’s most likely a toupee.
Right up my alley.

Kenneth Huang. 9/01/24.
The Fuzzy memories...really got fuzzy at the end of this video...LOL
Heck yeah! Mako and Gerald Okamura 😁
This almost seems like a fictional show that would appear in a film about a fictional actor (Once Upon A Time in Hollywood comes to mind). 🤣
They canceled a much better show with Robert Conrad called the Duke where he plays a washed up boxer who becomes a PI so he could appear in this
Wow, recall it as a kid in the 70's so long ago, it seems.

Think this was Robert Conrad's first series after Baa Baa Black Sheep ended its run.
No. He did another series "The Duke" just before this.
I remember that Aqua-fresh commercial.
33:15 - Does it sound like Eartha Kitt or Tammy Grimes doing the "A Man Called Sloane will return" bumper?
It's Michele Carey who provided the voice for Effie the computer.
A Man Called Sloane! Sponsored By, Jif Peanut Butter! Choosy Mothers, Choose Jif!
Too bad a cool show like this got cancelled right away and a lot of crappy shows went on for years and years.
In this case, compounded by being on a network right in the period that it was dead last in the ratings.

Like Friends or Heroes..both on NBC
@@conradhauser17 - I suppose you DON'T mean that '70's TV movie with Telly Savalas?
Bond style titles by Dolphin Productions
And they were THE worst opening titles of any QM series.

Thanks - is the French version on RUclips? Can you send me the link? I can make a redo version.
Yesterday you posted for April Fools the polka videos but both lasted one day.
They’re in the April Fools playlist if you want to see them again.

Well, that series didn’t last long.
suffocated by this era's machismo

Wow! This is absolutely terrible.
😂😂😂😂😂No kidding!
Wow. This is on a different level of awful
This seems cartoonish even by 1970s standards.
