  • Quintuplets occur naturally in 1 in 55,000,000 births. The first quintuplets known to survive infancy were the all-female Canadian Dionne Quintuplets, born in 1934. Quintuplets are sometimes referred to as "quins" in the UK and "quints" in North America.

As a labor & delivery nurse, I have been blessed to help deliver 3 sets of quintuplets, YES 3! I planned the process of delivery by Cesarean Section: all the needed staff and all the equipment and supplies. It was a challenge to say the least! Everything went well. I think that was so because I had faith that the Lord was with me every step of the way, just as he was with every patient cared for during 45 years as an R.N.

That's incredible for that time. I can only imagine how frightening that must of been for you and your family. They are obviously fighters that were deemed essential in this world and we say that about our own children but many will say it and understand that about your twins. I've been sick since I was a little girl and I've made it to 44 which is ten years more that the two years my lifelong specialists gave me 12 years ago so I'm no stranger to medical issues and through that I have a lot of empathy for others against the odds survivors, you must of been an incredible Mum. She could have said no to the docs. They were delivered by c section, so potentially, all being well, they could have gone closer to full-term inside rather than outside. I'd be suing the hospital millions if they even suggested delivering any of my children by c section before 37 weeks.

What a perfectly matched Mom and Dad. They didn’t seem backwards in getting their hands on them. It was so wonderful to see how hands on they were allowed to be. I know trained medical personnel are likely the best but to have these wee ones getting the touch of Mom and Dad has to be magical for these babies. I truly feel they sense who is who. Every person involved carries a huge role in their success. God bless these committed staff who specialize with their gift of life.

My mother had twins 1951 28 weeks. She’d been married less than a year 18 years old.
They weighed 4 lbs. in a small hospital, Dad wanted to move them. Grandma said “ this doctor has cared for her for her life, he knows what he’s doing! “ they needed a feeding tube. The tube missed their stomach hit their lung. Baby one got pneumonia. Died funeral . 9 days later second baby died . Two funerals two weeks. Dad never forgave himself. We only have photos in caskets. Watching this I think my sisters would have been the largest babies in the NICU.

I love your episodes you do on Real Families. There is only one advice I ask, when filming. When you give dates of when something happening, you never give the year. For example, you said Aug 1st, the babies were 3 months old, just wish what year the babies were born.

@@pamsworld9442 Good catch!! ❤ I wrote my comment after about watching 10 mins and then of course, when I continued watching it. I happened to catch it on the crib where they had a poster of each child's name and their DOB and I also caught it on the X-Ray too. It said May 7, 2003. So they were born then and the journal you saw bc I went back to look at it. So it was like they said 3 months later... August 2003. I wonder how they are doing now? They would be 7yrs old and the oldest daughter 12.
What a lovely community helping at all hours of the night and the wonderful donations. ❤

They are an amazing family. I felt a bit of a bond - 5 children, Catholic although I know they had 1 plus 5. I had twins too and was worried they would come early and be disabled altyough they came at 40 weeks which is actually late for twins! They just finished university.
I think when you have children in your 20s ( was 22 for our first) you are stronger, you take it in your stride. The people at church who helped are such wonderful people on the video. Twins were not too bad after single children as I breastfed them always at the same time even if I had to wake one.

I also had twins at 40 weeks. I was not allowing the doctor to take them early. The longer they gestate the healthier they are. 🥳 My twins started 3rd grade this year. 🙏🏻❤️

These children will be fine, when you are comforting them you must keep the tears worry in your voice hidden as the babied pick up on it, try to stay calm and cry later, them hearing you they can develop anxieties, fears, act confidentand lovi g talki g to them. I have a very good feeling they are going to be alright, enjoy them like every other baby, makesure you give them what others get, just being with this loving family will bring them through. Line up help that is available so you get sleep

Hello! I am not quite sure how you spell Darin’s name, but I’ll spell that way. I have a granddaughter who has the same issues with her eyes as Darin did with the inability to track. She is now 11 years old, wears glasses, and is legally blind. Her eye doctor told her and my son (her father) that she will never drive. I watched Darin closely when he was being examined by amazing doctor, after he had started tracking... he kept turning his head as if to look through one eye. My granddaughter does that sometimes. She was diagnosed as an infant with “Nystagmus”. Is it possible that Darin as that as well??? I know that these quints were born years ago, but I think of this family every so often, and lift as prayer for all of them when I do. May God continue to bless them!
