  • Just 10km north of the Scottish Mainland and yet somehow at the end of the world, Orkney is a paradise of islands in the north of Europe. Time passes more slowly here than in the rest of the world, and the people here have learned to live with nature. Facing both the Atlantic and the North Sea, there are very special forces at work trying to harnessing the ocean to generate electricity. Will power from the sea change our global energy provision in future?

Personal I love nature more than anything, the way nature interact with human being (become a source of everything) to me is the greatest treasure of mankind. But access of these precious services has been spoiled by those who visits them mostly islands.

As a species we are prone to substituting one problem for another; endlessly kicking cans down roads. I admire the innovations of our younger generation's efforts to find greener energy. I truly despise fossil fuel dependency. However, I believe we are focusing too much on the supply aspect and not on modifying demand. We need to make our devices use less energy and be more efficient. When the oil-crisis hit us in the 70's, car manufacturers were forced to make combustion engines more efficient. Why do we not do that now? Instead, companies like Apple and Microsoft create industries that chew through energy as if it is plentiful. The annual energy cost of running the internet is equivalent to the annual power expenditure of the Netherlands or Argentina (approx 300 terra watt hours). Out of sight out of mind.
