XU10J4R There is still some good music out there. I started listening to country back in the late 70's. I think it was because there were many songs crossing over to the pop charts like Glen Campbell and Ronnie Milsap. I still love the Gatlin Brothers, I was fortunate enough to get their older albums on vinyl. Two of their songs that I loved but were probably only known to others who played the entire albums were "Jacob and Marcie" and "If practice makes perfect". I loved just about any of their songs, but those 2 were amazing to me for some reason. Country these days, ......I can't say it's horrible but you can see it from there. As for pop music, that sucks even worse. Have you ever heard the crap that Bieber sings? I'm sure you know what I'm talking about without bringing anyone else's names. However, here's one that I hope you will give me your opinion on. Back in the 80's we had to listen to Billy Ray Cyrus and "Achy breaky heart". I thought I would puke every time I heard it or when I had to watch a line dance to it. Today we have Miley Cyrus and her twerking. Who came up with that word? To me it looks like some freaky sex moves. I couldn't believe we were subjected to it on tv. Two generations of one family who suck. I am glad to see Garth Brooks is back touring again.
I love country music. Nothing makes the soul feel more alive. Im not talking about the new country, (Taylor Swift, The band Perry, Keith Urban), I am talking about these two. Along with Merle, Waylon, Willie, Coe, Johnny Russel, and Vern Gosdin, plus many more. Keep that steel guitar twangin'.
I fell in love with my Yellow Rose of Texas some forty years ago. We broke up shortly before we were to marry. Since then I've been through two marriages and have never found solace in my life. After almost 40 years she still has my heart. This song always makes me think of her.
This is truly a great rendition. As a kid I was totally captivated with the original version and still am to this day. I guess it's the admiration for "Emily" the original Yellow Rose of Texas and her couragous contribution for Texas independence at the Battle of San Jacinto.
I heard this song on the radio as a young lad in the '80s. It's one of those country classics that sadly went out of print as I grew up. So thanks for posting it!
I met Johnny Lee a couple of weeks ago at the Blue Bonnet Palace in Selma, Texas. He was doing a show. Afterwards, I got the grand opportunity to talk to him as well get some pictures of him signing my guitar. What a thrill. What a great entertainer.
Thank you for great comments! i was never married to johnny , we are like brother and sister. I performed it with him on "Country Family reunion" recently. i am a writer of the lyrics. It's the first video recorded on film. it was at Pennington"s ranch in Nashville. I have been vegan for many years now and the coat was used to demonstrate fur belongs on animals not humans. It was snubbed by the CMA the year it went number one for political reasons. But you the people have made it last! xo Lane
I was drawn like a moth to the flame when I listened to this version of ' The Yellow Rose of Texas' because of my passion for Johnny Lee's 'Be there for me baby'. Beautiful song.
My family was from Texas and during the American Civil War I have been given to understand this was a marching song. God know, the Civil War in the Western Theater saw more marching than you would believe. My Great Grandfather Andrew Jackson .....was on the 2nd Missouri raid with Price and Joe Shelby as part of the 10 th Texas Field Battery. They marched 2,000 miles and on great grandfathers 21st birthday he had not eaten in three days.... Remember.
I LOVE this song. I also LOVED the 80's. the music was great. kids now days even say so. i know a lot that listen to the 80's music. really miss the big hair.....lol.
wikepedia says this newer version of this song is called THE YELLOW ROSE.. written by Johnny Lee, Land Brody and John Wilder. i think in 1984 for the TV show..Yellow Rose of Texas.
I interviewed Lane Brody at the Opryland Hotel in Nashville in 1983. It was heady stuff for a 23 year old radio DJ from a small town. She was a beautiful lady, and last time I noticed, she still is.
Lovely song. Thanks for uploading it. I hung out with John Hartford a while back in the late 60's(?) and I had him sing this to me many times. (I'm sure it was MORE times than he'd have wished!) Really beautiful sound.
I will always be your yellow of Texas you brought me here and after our deployments we stood by each other. I arrived from Iraq and my plane was hours late but you still greeted me with the 11 red roses and that one single yellow rose. I flew into yours arms where I belong. Love you. Sweetie.
I used to watch that texas championship wrestling with all those von Erich's on saturday nights in the magnificent 80's with my stepdad on superstars of wrestling
And we fly to Cape Town in South Africa on the 14th May - to join our bikes and ride through Africa over the next three years - two weeks at a time ....... and we will be playing your music !
@harleysami thank-you for your service from a Desert Storm vet, together "we the people" will be here forever as long as we have good men and women who will stand up and fight to defend truth, justice , and freedom.
Buen video y excelente tema "La Rosa Amarilla de Texas" me recuerda la serie de televisión "The Yellow Rose" con Sam Elliott . Dios los bendiga y saludos.
from the time when country music was fantastic now on days it ain't worth a thing, sad but true.
