I asked for help from the authorities with him and I got nothing but some advice to stay home and "provide him with boundaries." At the same time, I was required to go to work and not "lie around on welfare." It was a Catch-22. His father was never at home because he was an alcoholic and I had broken up with him a long time before, so there was no dad to whoop his ass. Easy to sit in your armchair and give useless advice.

The citizens of Minnesota are blessed to have DA Andrew Luger, who prosecuted the Mafia in Manhattan, and Police Chief O'Hara, who is originally from New Jersey. As a retired NYPD cop I have met numerous single mother's who have children for money from the government. The more kids the more money. I was sitting in SS trying to get assistance from being ill from 9/11 with my wife and baby. I sat there listening to a parent explaining how to work the system for money and having kids. She was 15 years old with a baby parents so proud. They told her when the baby gets older you go get pregnant again so you get more money and you don't have to get a job

I am incapable of understanding how it is that a parent is begging the police for help with their 10 year old child. I am a single mom of four, worked full time, and none of them were out running the streets, and especially not at 10. I get that times have changed, but my youngest is only 19. Legally an adult, but still a kid in my opinion, and he isn't out doing anything except going to work, hanging out with his girlfriend, and playing basketball. My kids had cell phones, but they had flip phones until they were old enough for internet access. They don't need social media and RUclips, and if my kid was ever to get in trouble with the police I would whoop their ass in the police station and they knew it. So I never had to. Parents need to grow TF up and parent their kids or don't have them. Stop being afraid of your kids and be their parent, not their friend. Why does the media rarely go to the legislators and ask them why they are not addressing these issues. The media only seems to be going to law enforcement to find out about the problem and the problem seems to be that legislators are making laws rules and situations where the problems are not being addressed. The media should be there to make sure that the legislators and legislature are being held accountable to making laws and funding the agencies that are tasked to develop a better process.

T At one time there were places such as group homes, shelters, and organizations that addressed this problem. This is partially due to a system that punishes the parents for disciplinary action. Sound like these kids are being recuited by older kids or gangs. When that happen the kid is usually offered all kinds of gifts, attention and promise of this cool great life of riches. What happens instead is they continue to commit the crime and end up in jail for 30 years when they turn 18. To many kids are being raised by single parent who has no one home when these kids get out of school either. Many time the parent cannot even control the kid. When I was growing up 3/4 of the video games or TV shows would not be able to be sold to children or be able to see before 9pm. People would not be laughing when a 3 year old swears. Please tell me what a parent can do to control their kids when they are running away multiple times before they're even 11 years old?
I am incapable of understanding how it is that a parent is begging the police for help with their 10 year old child. I am a single mom of four, worked full time, and none of them were out running the streets, and especially not at 10. I get that times have changed, but my youngest is only 19. Legally an adult, but still a kid in my opinion, and he isn't out doing anything except going to work, hanging out with his girlfriend, and playing basketball. My kids had cell phones, but they had flip phones until they were old enough for internet access. They don't need social media and RUclips, and if my kid was ever to get in trouble with the police I would whoop their ass in the police station and they knew it. So I never had to. Parents need to grow TF up and parent their kids or don't have them. Stop being afraid of your kids and be their parent, not their friend. And until the government starts paying child support and taking them for the weekend they're not going to tell me how to raise mine.

@@petgranny194 I was a single parent. I taught my daughter how to behave and to have respect for her elders. I worked full time and she went to school. She was on the honor roll and went to Hamlin University. She made the Dean's list and received an award from the President. If I can raise a successful daughter by myself, then anyone can. I had no help for anyone .
Plus I never received child support. It takes work to be a good parent, but it can be done.

The kids who lived next door to us were out stealing bicycles during school hours. I finally got sick of it and called the truant office to report them. The truant officer was too busy doing monitor duty in the school cafeteria to answer my complaint.

Like the Chief mentioned, there used to be a place where troubled youth would be sent when they got to the point of car theft, serious assault and such.... It was called Glen Lake, and for the more serious Red Wing.... They were not summer camps back in the day, nor should they be now... But a detainment with structure, and regular improvement monitoring, rewarding for improvement, and a length of time away from what they are used to. Away from where their bad choices, and nasty , evil behavior may festers and enabled or in cases unable to stop... You heard how the mothers want them to be set in control... If your elected officials have NO SYSTEM in PLACE to send the troubled ones, the pattern repeats, and "Whack a mole" continues.... Everyone knows there needs to be a "home" to send them.. Why does the media rarely go to the legislators and ask them why they are not addressing these issues. The media only seems to be going to law enforcement to find out about the problem and the problem seems to be that legislators are making laws rules and situations where the problems are not being addressed. The media should be there to make sure that the legislators and legislature are being held accountable to making laws and funding the agencies that are tasked to develop a better process.

At one time there were places such as group homes, shelters, and organizations that addressed this problem. This is partially due to a system that punishes the parents for disciplinary action. The kids know they have very few consequences for negative behavior and actions.

Sound like these kids are being recuited by older kids or gangs. When that happen the kid is usually offered all kinds of gifts, attention and promise of this cool great life of riches. What happens instead is they continue to commit the crime and end up in jail for 30 years when they turn 18. To many kids are being raised by single parent who has no one home when these kids get out of school either. Many time the parent cannot even control the kid. Sorry you people who think well they should lock them in there rrom or belt them is recommending child abuse. But our society is not fair to children today. When I was growing up 3/4 of the video games or TV shows would not be able to be sold to children or be able to see before 9pm. People would not be laughing when a 3 year old swears. Parent obviously do not understand to teach displine it start around 3 years old and not in the teens. We have turn into a society that glorfies crime with rap misic and video games and these kids brains are not muture enought to understand the full consequences of there actions or the differences. You brain does not finish growing and developing until the age of 25 or so.

The car companies need to make a different type of entry system? Cops in every state have this car theft problem, kids steal the cars to drive the five or ten blocks home after school. Is it considered a misdemeanor? Not all ten year olds are small in size, they can see over the dashboard.
