I remember the first time I saw this at the 1995 Spike and Mike Animation Festival. I loved the wit of it: pitting the three phases of his career against one another - ruthless "Ace in the Hole", Goodie Goodie and Crusty Old Fart Kirk Douglas. Everything about this short is pitch perfect, but special attention must be given to the late Frank Gorshin who did an impeccable voice imitation of Douglas. Bravo!
Kirk Douglas - 1916 - 2020. I saw this short for the first time like a month ago, and watched it multiple times. When he died, I of course had to come back.
Utter genius. One of those rare things where every detail is perfect. As impossible as it would be, it makes me wish this was just a shippet from a full length feature...
One of the single best animated shorts EVER!! The chin-lock, priceless!! I like the last one was so polished it looked like the chin dimple was gone. I know Gorshin definitely did the impression in front of Douglas. And he HAD to have seen this, right? This is immortality, if anything is. Brilliant.
"I've done a lot of lying in my time. I've lied to men who wear belts. I've lied to men who wear suspenders. But I'd never be so stupid as to lie to a man who wears both belt and suspenders."
Magnificent capture of Kirk's facial, ahem, animations. Especially at 1:00, where we get his characteristic chin-swivel of disbelief, followed by an accusatory line. Bravo.
This is actually created by Dave Stoten who worked for Uk Mad Magazine, and worked on a lot of caracatures on Spitting Image. It's so good this short it was nominated for an Oscar!
The ending is way too abrupt and no closing credits- these are usually signs that there is more material to the original. Can anyone confirm one way or the other?
I love how the one guy stops the world from spinning that the other had started spinning... such a metaphor for the banter between them. BRILLIANT.
RIP Kirk Douglas
Can't believe this video was posted 15 years ago
The first RUclips video, titled Me at the zoo, shows co-founder Jawed Karim at the San Diego Zoo. The video was uploaded on April 23, 2005 wow

It's pitch perfect. The movement, the mannerisms...the impression.
I wonder if he ever saw this...?

Curt Chiarelli Frank was a great actor, in his own right, actually.
R.I.P. Kirk Douglas (and Frank Gorshin).

I know, too bad
This was fantastic! The chin lock killed me!
Terrific piece and I read narrated by the late, great Frank Gorshin. In fact this was written by him as well. Loved it!

It's funny that this is the first thing that I thought about; today, Kirk Douglas passed away at 103 years of age. Godspeed
me too.
Christian Schmude - me too!
This is genius! Three Kirk Douglas' on one motion picture...coolio!

Great animation, great voice acting, this is pure excellence.
Terrific short. Thanks for posting.
Happy 100th birthday, Kirk Douglas!

I think these film makers went on to produce the popular Lipton Brisk Ice Tea ads.
Happy 100th,Kirk Douglas
The credits roll, with the sounds of typewriters tapping away in the background, right after the last shot seen here, so you didn't miss anything.
This never gets old.
There's gotta be a higher quality version of this animation somewhere!
That's my only complaint too. Everyone in the world should see this in a digital transfer. Genius!
haha my dad made the eyes for this short film
this is great:-)
AWESOMEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
