Thank you so much for this video it’s just what I needed! I have a FG that the shutter is stuck. So I needed to know where to start taking this thing apart. There was a spring that fell out when I took the bottom cover off. It’s part of the shutter mechanism so hopefully I won’t have to tear the whole camera part. God bless!! Blue
I had video footage of it but sadly lost it. Mikeno62 has a assembly video that is covers it pretty well. ruclips.net/video/jFWIZ3I3Z6s/видео.html If you need more detail I put something together.
for the amount of freaggin washers in that shutter they might as well just call this a washer FM.. jokes aside it looks pretty doable for a normal person with the right tools and some patience.
Good morning from sunny Saint Petersburg! How do I assemble the shutter? In the video, at 17:45, the shutter blades are open and the shutter is disassembled, but at 17:53, the shutter is already assembled and in working condition. My shutter does not return the blades to position after firing; could you tell me where the problem might be and how to fix it? I haven’t found any information on shutter assembly, so you’re my last hope. There’s not even anyone in my area who could help. If you have any sources that describe this, please share them.
I like the think of the shutter as going through a cycle. shutter button press-> mirror up-> first curtain open-> second curtain close-> mirror down. Each one of these stages is dependent on the previous and sometimes the next. in you case the second curtain is not closing this could mean the mirror is sticky? or the first curtain is sticky and could not provide sufficient force to trip the second curtain. This is my guess. Hope that helps.
@ oh I see. Yeah when the shutter is out of the camera you have to trip the second curtain to close. In other words when you charge the Shutter and trip it to close only the first curtain goes down and then you have to push another lever to the second curtain. it is difficult to describe where the 2nd curtain release is. But you shouldn’t have to worry about that. You can just charge the shutter and put it back in the camera and reassemble it.
Hi there, I had an issue with the winding lever that I resolved by removing the bottom of the camera and disassembling the winding mechanism. Not sure how but in the process winding lever started to work but what you called the "blind shot prevention function" stopped working :( As I also have an issue with a stuck mirror, I removed the tripod mount thinking that may give me a closer look inside and show the potential issue with my stuck mirror. I could see the plastic lever you mentioned being rather loose and because of your video now I understand that that has nothing to do with my mirror getting stuck. Anyways, wondering if you may have some advice as what the issue with my stuck mirror in my FM could be. I removed the mirror bumper as suggested by others but the problem remains :( Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Paco 😊
mirror stuck up could be that the shutter is dirty/oily and not completing its travel up hard enough to release the mirror. you can check this by very carefully pulling the curtain down with a tooth pick and quickly releasing. it might take a couple tries. but if you dont want risk bending the blades just follow the guide here and clean the shutter. I can upload a video on how complete the re assemble though there are other guide on YT showing that and it is really finicky. ie it will work but take multiple attempt to re mount the mirror box.
@@chubyatyahoo Thanks for the quick replay! the shutter seems to operate ok at bulb and max speed, although it has evidence of a bit of oil on one of the blades. My last attempt to fix the mirror will be to try to remove the oil I can see in the blade. If it does not work, I am proceeding with Surgery 😱and follow your video😊!... I also have the issue of the blind shot prevention function. I am not sure if I could possibly address that from below the camera?
@@franciscosaudielramirez-sa6330 yeah I dont think you will have great success with the blsp from the bottom. The system on the old version of this camera uses the battery case to hold two metal switch that are used as a spring in the blsp mechanism. In my case the plastic holding the metal contacts broke and I had to use jb weld to glue it back. This was only possible with surgery(taking the mirror box out) sadly.
@@chubyatyahoo ... It seems that I have no option but to do surgery to address both issues... it will be fun (and cheaper than a CLA !), and a great success or a sad ending for my Nikon FM!... will keep you posted! Thanks, Paco 😊
Hi there, greetings from Cuba. A nikon FM came to my hands and Im in the need for a reassembling video . Can’t find it in youtube. Any suggestions? Thanks im advance.!
For the reassy the most tricky part is putting the mirror box back in place. I did have one but lost the footage. A good place to check will be mikeno62 ruclips.net/video/jFWIZ3I3Z6s/видео.html
@@chubyatyahoo thanks a lot, actually that’s the problem I’ve. Can’t find the proper settings for mirror box and therefore mirrors is up and shutter doesn’t work. A quick question: shall I set the shutter at B as in the FM2 or any speed will sync properly?

This video was very useful. Would be great if you could do a reassembly video showing how to put together the blind shot prevention lever.

@@chubyatyahoo The shutter lies on the table separately from the camera and is in the same condition as when it was working.

Unfortunately, the shutter inside the camera sees itself the same way as from the outside
