Thank you for this nice presentation. In my office we've checked two other solutions as well. With a good Internet connection speed, Microsoft Teams is probably the best tool for conducting virtual classes. In case of Cisco Webex Team, it is good if the user interface is properly understood.
I use Google Meet, simply because it integrates with Classroom, Calendar, mail etc. I know a lot of people are unhappy about the meeting continue after the host leaves, but to me it is just like when I leave the physical classroom. Students get a chance to discuss some of the things they just learnt, and raise better questions later.
I think that depends on the trust you have with your class as well as the maturity levels they exhibit. I know many of my elementary teachers wouldn't DARE leave an open online room for their 1st graders! :)
I love Google Meet. Easy to use, no download required. The meeting code doesn't expire and you can use the same code for several meetings with different groups, which is very convenient. And the organizer can approve or decline participants, there's no danger of intruders.
Zoom all the way. My school uses Google Meet and it is slow beyond belief, even on good WiFi. It freezes my computer all the time, drops calls, etc. No green screen feature either. Never had these issues when I used Zoom for non-school purposes
I used Zoom and big blue button. I would say I like big blue button better because of the annotation features. Although zoom has the features but it won’t work on chromebooks. My students all use chromebooks and I can used white board, breakout room, and open a meeting right on Schoology away without providing a link or invitation to my students.
Zoom allows you to send invites through gmail calendar. You can schedule the meeting on google calendar, add the invitees and click the option ‘make this a zoom meeting’. The invitations are sent to all the people you included in the meeting and the link for the actually meeting will appear in their calendars as they accept the invite ;)
I actually made an update video that covers this, it's called Zoom Scheduler and lets Zoom users do the exact same thing as Meet: ruclips.net/video/XtV8U76cKbE/видео.html You should check it out now!
I personally think that the video and audio is better and clearer with Zoom, but Meet has a feature that's better than Zoom - close captioning. In Zoom, you can turn on close captioning, but you have to assign someone to type out the words. Meet uses voice capture technology so it types it out as people on the video call speaks. Your video is very clear and brief. I just want to point out that if you're on GSuite, when you schedule a meeting on Google Calendar and you go to video conferencing, you have the option of selecting Google Meet or Zoom so you can schedule a Zoom call through Google calendar, but only on GSuite. If you only have a personal Google account, this option doesn't show up and you only have Google Meet as a choice.
@Natasha Carter, a personal Google account can only host a Google Hangout (with a maximum of 10 video participants) but can join in a Google Meet hosted by someone else with a GSuite account.
Zoom has a 40 minute limit on its basic account. It's frustrating when I get disconnected halfway through a session. That's the main reason I came here.
@@MrCooksCorner Many thanks. I followed this up with our IT department and now we have unlimited meeting duration through our Office 365 accounts (I had to create a new account).
On Meet, you don't necessarily require an education domain, you can also use the paid version of Google (at $6 per month) and then have access to Meet. I have both: I work for the State University of NY and we're a Google Campus and I also have my personal .com domain (paid Google account) and have access to Meet, as well.
Great video. However, with Zoom Scheduler Chrome Extension installed you can do a Zoom meeting right in Calendar, too. Google Nod extension also allows raising hand in Meet now too.
my son does Zoom for school and Google Meets for his Cub Scouts. Not sure about the 40 min limit being waved, he's had a number of meetings rushed because the teacher has indicated they are running out of time and the 40 min will close. It's been very frustrating on occasions, it's a very rushed class. Video Quality seems to be on par with each other, I do prefer the Google Calender invitivation, it's so much easir to joing meetings , as opposed the constant copy and paste the meeting ID and Passwords. If you are in the Google ecosystem, Gmail GCalander etc Meets is much more seemles. Some of this infor is a bit outdated 250 people can join a Meets meeting. Plus he uses a Chromebook and Zoom doesn't allow all the features on the Chromebook Overall I give the edge to Meet's jsut more seamless.
As explained in this video here ruclips.net/video/XtV8U76cKbE/видео.html and also many other documented sources, the Zoom security issues are not a thing anymore. Any "hack" that people manage to pull off right now are through user error, not a flaw in the platform itself.
Have been using Zoom for 3 weeks now. One advantage that Meet has over Zoom is the caption feature. It does speech-to-text conversion, though not 100% accurate.
:D Just tried that and 10% of the time go my speech to text wrong, but it's a very neat feature. Can be risky if the audience is very young though but fun if everyone is an adult (excluding a few friends of mine) LOL

If Google sees this review... I believe Meet will also have as good as Zoom on Chat Options, Moderation. But Zoom's feature of Breakout Rooms and password on meetings is incredible. This are features I expected Meet to have on the go. A bit disappointed with that.
Yup! It's also key to remember that Zoom is a dedicated platform entirely based on this one aspect of things, while Google has its hands in everything. However they do have some nifty new updates coming out soon!
I like Zoom a lot better than Meet: better view in grid, better screen sharing options, better chat options, I love the break out rooms. The only thing is that people here (Indonesia) are afraid of Zoom, people say it is dangerous to use because of hackers. Which has never happened to me. Cheers.
Well, Zoom despite the security issues. Meet won't let me in because I'm an individual and not under a school's name. They said that by May 4, 2020, Meet would be available for free to everyone but it isn't true. I am a teacher, I do not have an institutional account, no one in the institution has one.
Like you, @Juana de Alegria, I've lost my Google Ed account when I switch institution. I have a Microsoft Ed account, now, but most of my students use Android devices, so I just use Google Hangouts with them. It may have fewer features than Meet, but it works and is met with least resistance from the participants.
We are very divided in my school I'm team hangouts though, we use both but I definitely prefer hangouts. It's just cleaner and easier to access, I have seen more and more teachers switch over to zoom but we hangout gang are fighting for hangouts rn. And we still have some teachers who have not switched over, luckily some students can't access zoom so hangouts is better in most circumstances, also the link/password thing requires too much steps. Not to mention to show those links to join the zoom we still have to use hangout to DM the link to the group. Also there is that annoying green screen feature which always causes lag and you can't see whatever their holding up.
Team Hangouts! At our school, we definitely prefer Meet for the simple things - basic meetings, check-ins, etc. It's pretty easy to get up and going. I think the only time we really enforce Zoom is when we have whole class meetings. Having the additional abilities to mute, remove, monitor, co-host, etc. is crucial to maintain a safe online learning environment. But I definitely feel you when it comes to personal preference!
Please answer these questions: 1) Can I share the meeting ID like in Zoom, without having the email address of other attendees? 2) What are the maximum number of participants I can have in Meet? 3) Is it still necessary to have a .edu account to initiate a google meet video call? Thanks alot
Hello, after viewing your video I still have some doubts regarding the differences of the moderation features of ZOOM and GOOGLE MEET. For instance, how easy would it be to give the microphone to another person appart from the host so he can lead the presentation?
I mean, at some point you have to hold the host responsible for their actions. If they created the meeting, then gave the microphone to someone else, that's their own fault! That has nothing to do with features of a program.
.edu is not necessary. Your organization's URL (email address) needs to be registered as an educational institution to get gSuite tools and host Google Meet meetings. Complexity is another consideration. Although both have apps for mobile devices, on a PC Meet is browser based, where Zoom requires to be installed.
I should have clarified more, the number of options in Zoom offers a richer feature set but can be overwhelming to some users. Good video Cook. Thank you.
I'm using zoom, but I'll like for my teachers to do Microsoft Teams because it's more efficient & easy to use. It's basically like Schoology & Google Classroom built-in (included) as well.
I hear great things about Microsoft Teams! Hopefully it will become more prevalent throughout the years and thus a viable alternative to the Google ecosystem. I'm all for having options!
At first I used hangouts video but u can’t mute anyone. I was using zoom and really liked it but my district just told all teachers we cannot use zoom anymore so I am looking into meet.
Yes, we're getting reports all across the nation of districts removing Zoom as an option for live video conferencing. It's unfortunate, but Google meet is an acceptable backup. Having to ask people to mute is going to have to become part of proper etiquette, as you are right in saying that there's no way to mute people on your own. In the meantime, check out that Chrome extension on gridview, as it's a lifesaver!
i am using meet, raise hand and clapping can also be added in the plugin. besides, i use google drive for documents sharing so not an issue for me plus the record meeting. and since i am using 2 screens, i have no issues when presenting to my class.
As long as your class is respectful of your expectations, we love using Meet. It does lack permanent muting options, so if you come across unruly kids, it becomes an issue.
@@gayathri273 check out my update video ruclips.net/video/XtV8U76cKbE/видео.html You can see a screen shot of where to click at the 4:59 mark of the video.
I have heard that Zoom got some security issues lately. Is that bonus feature, "Password Protection" a response to the issue or it's been there before? Sorry to ask this question because we are planning to buy Zoom, but this security issue worries us especially in a school setting.
TechGamersHaven, we are a training company delivering a variety of training programs for our corporate clients, certification training for public registrants and students, virtual coaching/therapy for individuals or couples. We have done many online programs via Zoom for years and especially since our government tightened movements due to Covid19. We have not experience any security problems so far as long as the host and co host do the necessary. Our only wish is for Zoom to have more features and capabilities we would like to use to further engage our participants and audience.
Have used meet only a few times but reverted back to zoom as I found it has better quality video and screensharing is also better in my opinion. I use zoom free and schedule meetings through my google calendar. I have the zoom extension installed in my browser. Zoom whiteboard is good but prefer to share screen and use openboard as a whiteboard tool. I find screensharing is faster and easier than meet.
We don't go into the back end of computer database on this channel, but if you're using zoom and want to safeguard yourself, try following these tips: ruclips.net/video/WhB4uvxc-0E/видео.html
As for the "password protection" Zoom offers, it's still very unsecure (so much more I can go into on this) but Meet truly has the upper hand when it comes to the "password requirement". Most participants on Meet are first and foremost within their organization's domain and require a password to ENTER their domain account from the start. External participants from any domain, though, may also be invited but they require the Host's permission (by default) to "Enter" the video chat immediately after clicking on their invitation link.
Thank you for all the comments! We can definitely appreciate the Google side of things. We are Google Certified educators and trainers ourselves over here. If you're interested, we'd love to stream with you and make a video together so you can tout all the awesome aspects of Google Meet that wasn't covered in this video! Please reach out if you're interested.
I'm using Google Meet and I was testing out the split screen feature to share a youtube clip. For some reason, the video shows up but there is no sound. Do you why that could be? I checked all settings but couldn't find another volume option.
To be honest, your best bet is to use Zoom instead, as they have the options built in for exactly what you're trying to do. There are a lot of Google threads out there trying to figure it out with Meet, but it's going to take a lot of crazy steps to make it work and it's not worth your time.
So much truth to the poop emojis! Fingers crossed your district pays for your Pro accounts when Zoom pulls the cord on all of the free educator accounts in September...we've already been told to switch over to Meet. 😡
I need group video calls for my class, just group video calls, so which one is better?beside skype. because in google duo we can just only have 8-12 participants.
What about the news said zoom sells customers data to deepweb/etc? And many of hacked account cases. Just want to hear your opinion. I want to use zoom but have doubt in mind when hearing this from my colleagues. Most of them moved to Google Meet for savety reason.

The maximum number of how many people you can VIEW at one time is a non-issue; if you're presenting no one is really focused on every single person in their audience (if even a few). The more important feature is the infrastructure for both platforms, Meet has Zoom beat by a long shot: Meet has the ability of up to 250 participants and you can also live stream to an audience of up to 100,000. (That's only the beginning. There are so many other advantages on Meet over Zoom, this one's a no brainier.)
Be sure to show them this Wednesday's video - I'm going to show how to properly secure Zoom meetings. I'm SURE your entire district will listen to Mr. Cook's Corner and change their minds! 🆗✅😂😂
@@MrCooksCorner There is evidence now that Zoom is sending data to servers in China and with a download onto a computer, they also have stored information on the computer. Despite the lack of features, Google has the far better solution for this reason alone: There is no download for MEET and it is run in the safe Chrome browser.
Is there any way to stop students from being able to unmute themselves in Meet? Also, my students were able to share their screens which is concerning, is there any way to disable this as well as the group chat for kids that may send inappropriate images and/or comments?
Absolutely! Check out my video on security settings to get yourself all set up with screen sharing permissions: ruclips.net/video/WhB4uvxc-0E/видео.html For muting, that is located within the meeting itself. DM us if you can't get it situated, and we'd be happy to hop on a Zoom with you and go over it together!
Mr. Cook's Corner, thank you, but I meant in Google Meet. I finally mastered the settings in Zoom and my district is no longer allowing us to use it. Today, in Google Meet, it was chaos. The children were unmuting themselves and others couldn’t hear me. It’s only a matter of time before they figure out the screen sharing.
@@chrzkr6332 Whoops! Totally glazed over that you were referring to Meet. Sadly, there is no way to prevent anyone from either unmuting themselves or screen sharing. You CAN mute somebody, but they can just unmute themselves right back. The one thing you CAN do is remove them from the meeting, and they won't be able to get back in. It seems like your only course of action would be to lay specific ground rules for your students, explain expectations, provide the consequence, and then follow through if need be. It's another reason why Zoom continues to be the better choice, and this is coming from a Google fan. I'm sorry I don't have a better answer for you! :(
Yes-if you have made the google meet through google classroom them you can mute them at your discretion through the people section in google classroom.

The thing I don't like about Google Meet is that if you're not paying attention, you can end up in a random room. I put in the link for my Google Meet interview and left the room and tried to re-enter. Instead of entering the room I was in, it sent me to a random room and I had to retype the link when I noticed the codes didn't match in the web bar. This doesn't happen in Zoom. Not a huge deal breaker but it was a bit embarrassing...
@@MrCooksCorner true, but my work only uses google meet. And Google Meet uses alot of memory and ram. and it slows down the performance and presentations of hosts

@@MrCooksCorner my teachers prefer zoom in think because of the viewing options, they can see us all when we have a bigger class.
If they add the Google Grid Chrome extension, they can see everyone in a Google Meet! Be sure to tell them about it!
@@MrCooksCorner ok if I remember.
I don't think you need an edu-account to host on meet
Blackboard Collaborate is a lot like Zoom. It's what my university uses.
We'll have to look into that one...first time we've heard of it. Do you know if it's free?
@@MrCooksCorner blackboard is a platform schools use for online assignments. Collaborate is its video conferencing
Please answer these questions:
1) Can I share the meeting ID like in Zoom, without having the email address of other attendees?
Thank you.
For me, Zoom is the best for teaching elementary students.🤗
My daughter do online class in Google meet. She says ' East or West. Google meet is the best'
Woohoo! Another Google fan! 🥳🙌🔥
Zoom is teacher-friendly for teaching on mobile rather than laptop in pandemic. Many controls are there in zoom. Only intruder problems are there
At first I used hangouts video but u can’t mute anyone.
LOVE your intro brother!! Well done.
Baby steps, right? Thanks!
Now most of the expected features have been added in Google Meet. Please make an another video.
I did make an update video a few weeks ago: ruclips.net/video/XtV8U76cKbE/видео.html You should check it out now!
i am using meet, raise hand and clapping can also be added in the plugin. besides, i use google drive for documents sharing so not an issue for me plus the record meeting. and since i am using 2 screens, i have no issues when presenting to my class.
As long as your class is respectful of your expectations, we love using Meet. It does lack permanent muting options, so if you come across unruly kids, it becomes an issue.
How do you record the meeting in Google meet?
@@gayathri273 check out my update video ruclips.net/video/XtV8U76cKbE/видео.html You can see a screen shot of where to click at the 4:59 mark of the video.
our school uses zoom and tbh its pretty nice and overall nice.
@@BillyKueekSG Good to know that. I appreciate your immediate response. Thank you and keep safe!
I think both are effective. It just depends on what works for each organization.
Hi
How do you think about meetings got routed to servers in China (this was reported in a couple articles a few weeks back)?
Have used meet only a few times but reverted back to zoom as I found it has better quality video and screensharing is also better in my opinion. I use zoom free and schedule meetings through my google calendar. I have the zoom extension installed in my browser. Zoom whiteboard is good but prefer to share screen and use openboard as a whiteboard tool. I find screensharing is faster and easier than meet.
This pretty much sums it up. Well said!
Zoom had its user data recently all rerouted through Chinese network without their knowledge and they accepted. I don't know if Zoom is secure
We don't go into the back end of computer database on this channel, but if you're using zoom and want to safeguard yourself, try following these tips: ruclips.net/video/WhB4uvxc-0E/видео.html
Google meet
There are a lot of Google threads out there trying to figure it out with Meet, but it's going to take a lot of crazy steps to make it work and it's not worth your time.
you can make a waiting room in google meet!
Yup! These are new features that definitely help Google Meet in this comparison.
We’ve been using Zoom in our university meetings. Is it safer now?
Absolutely! Check out my video on security settings to get yourself all set up: ruclips.net/video/WhB4uvxc-0E/видео.html
you can do a whiteboard in google meet

I have been using Zoom. I like their security feature. 3rd grades will try to share poop emojis😂
So much truth to the poop emojis! Fingers crossed your district pays for your Pro accounts when Zoom pulls the cord on all of the free educator accounts in September...we've already been told to switch over to Meet. 😡
Both.
Thanks for this comparison. Helps me a lot in choosing which app to use.
You are so very welcome! We're glad you liked the content!
I need group video calls for my class, just group video calls, so which one is better?beside skype. because in google duo we can just only have 8-12 participants.
Hi Mr Cook.... Just needed to know ..I can't find option to make a participant cohost on my zoom free account... is it available only on pro account?

What about the news said zoom sells customers data to deepweb/etc? And many of hacked account cases. Just want to hear your opinion. I want to use zoom but have doubt in mind when hearing this from my colleagues. Most of them moved to Google Meet for savety reason.
We don't think any of this is actually happening to teachers. Check out my video on security settings to get yourself all set up: ruclips.net/video/WhB4uvxc-0E/видео.html

Hi
Ilove ZOOM for my preschool pupils😍😍😍 and they love it
Google meet is much better zoom takes away rights by giving too much authority to host
When talking about hosting children from a school classroom, having this authority over students is exactly what teachers need.
google meet has capacity of 250 participants whereas zoom has capacity of 100 participants for your kind information

@@MrCooksCorner sorry for being rude
@@yuvrajchaudhary8248 you weren't rude! You were absolutely correct. Hopefully you've watched the new video to see all of the updates - let me know what you think! :)
I love zoom, but our district is having us just use Meet/Teams because they said it’s not secured enough.😐
Sounds like another vote for Google Meet! It's definitely easy to use. As a Google Certified Trainer, I've got nothing but love for my Google peeps!
Mr. Cook's Corner, thank you. I wish my district would let us continue to use Zoom 😔
Yes-if you have made the google meet through google classroom them you can mute them at your discretion through the people section in google classroom.
I think it is Meet who can handle 250 participants and not zoom
Yes, we acknowledge this error in part 2 of this video: ruclips.net/video/XtV8U76cKbE/видео.html
wow Great Content, Thank you so much keep the hard work.
You said, "...you need .edu email..." that depends on the area, for in South Africa is a ".ac"(Academic).
That's a great point that I hadn't thought of - thanks for the information!
Hey, but I just has a joint class with 107 students in Google Meet.
Yes! It looks like since this video was released, Google has upgraded users to premium, including the ability to host up to 250 students. We're working on an update video to cover it all!
Google meet is secure
So is Zoom!
Mr. Cook, you cook good stuff.
Thank you! :)
Zoom is better google classroom sucks as a student it’s always laggy and the people’s mic’s are so slurred so google classroom is just pain
Zoom is a platform entirely dedicated to videoconferencing. Their audio processing and video support smashes Google Meet, but that's to be expected.
@@MrCooksCorner true, but my work only uses google meet. And Google Meet uses alot of memory and ram. and it slows down the performance and presentations of hosts

I think it all comes down to what you get used to using. In reality, both can work for what we need to do in an online meeting.
I’m using google meet in our school because our district blocked zoom
Yup! As time moves on, this is becoming more common. Some schools don't even get to use video at all!
but.......
You do not have to have a Zoom account to attend a Zoom meeting or interview. You will be prompted to download the software, once you have clicked on the link that you have been provided. You may also wish to create an account, but that is not required to participate in a Zoom meeting. SO YOU DONT NEED SOFTWARE FOR TO BE INA ZOOM MEETING - ! whoops
Thanks for your thoughts. Most school districts are requiring the security measure of only allowing people into meetings with a Zoom account. We appreciate your insight, though.

wich better zoom or meet ?
Yes.
Is an .ac acceptable for account access?
The best way to find out is to sign into your account using your .ac address. Next, go to meet.google.com, then see if you can set up a meeting. If it lets you, then you're all set!
Is zoom save to use ?
Yes!
