Ragtime Oh Holy Night is my favorite of the three by quite a bit, but I am VERY impressed with how you managed to fit Carol of the Bells into Ragtime. It's so fast to begin with that fitting in all those extra notes seems extremely difficult! ;;;>.

I think that ragtime has its place. I am conflicted because each of your chosen melodies is so dear to me in its original form. That being said, these ragtime versions could be used in films where a fast-paced scene is warranted to create a sense of excitement or as a subdued background, especially Carol of the Bells.

    • @theothertonydutch

Jonny I have an idea for next video: 3 nursery rhymes you should never play in ragtime. Instant examples - rock a bye baby, lullaby and good night, twinkle twinkle little star. Or 3 cartoon (not anime) themes you "should never" play in ragtime. Instant examples are Rugrats, Care Bears and Baby Looney Tunes.

I love your sense of humour and I love these ragtime arrangements. I'm a church organist and have to play these in more or less original form every year and I'm sick and tired of them. I'll take your lead and try some of them in ragtime, it might just set a new standard! By the way, your playing is fantastic, thank you.

I was at a wedding once where the organist (a friend, very gifted musically) played the bride in to a heavily-disguised rendition of The Stripper. Four or five people in the congregation ‘got it’. We were helpless.

@@richardbrookman6415 Years ago I was at a wedding where the bride was a teddy bear collector. The recessional began with a pompous bit of classical music and segued into The Teddy Bear's Picnic. The bride didn't know it was coming, but she and a quarter of those present cracked up. The other three-quarters were very confused.

Here's the thing,.. They all work in ragtime. Switching time signatures aside, the songs translated perfectly, as they do when played using jazz, country, rock or any other genre. It's a cool exercise to take what's familiar and mash it into a different waffle iron.
