- UK TV INTERVIEW WITH PATRICK DUFFY ON LOCATION IN TEXAS FILMING THE 1986-87 DALLAS SEASON. HOW WILL BOBBY EWING COME BACK FROM THE DEAD? INTERVIEWED BY THE LATE, GREAT BOB FRIEND.
"Larry is always the one to point out the financial benefits"
Good ol' J.R even truly Larry Hagman.
We love you bro
Patrick Duffy has to be one of the nicest person on the planet
Pop-Actor Agreed !!
A beautiful man, i Love him
@Pop-Actor I've actually met him... and he's *SUPER*-nice. Check your sources, man.
So down to earth
How many people remember him in Man From Atlantis an Aquman-type character, pre-Dallas.
yes yes, I watched Dallas because of MFA, absolutely loved Patrick Duffy!!
I caught part of one episode. That’s when I was very young. I watched him when he was in step by step.
Dallas went off when I was a kid and my mom stopped watching Dallas before I was born so I first knew him from “Step By Step” when I watched every Friday nights on ABC.
i love and still love and watch everyday the man from atlantis. Mark Harris is my fave tv character ever. Patrick Duffy is the only person who could portray him plus he’s the sweetest person on the planet ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥
i'm glad bobby came back..he was my favorite
i'm just glad he came back. the series doesn't do well without him. he & l. hagman are the anchors.
Donna Reed as Miss Ellie was the WORST thing they could do.
Barbara was great as miss ellie
Well his departure serves as a lesson for other future hit tv shows, whenever an actor wants to leave a hit tv show just make the character go away "on vacation" somewhere and if you need that actor to return to that show simply make the character come back from "that vacation". Don't kill 'em off.
He was smart to come back, he never would have made that $$ anywhere else, as he hasn't since the show was cancelled in 1991
well, the show he did with Suzzane Sommers he made alot of money.
I think no matter how good a series is (and Dallas was one of the all time great dramatic series on television), it can only last so long before it starts to go downhill. You cannot maintain a high quality level forever. If you could, great tv shows would continue production for 25 or 30 years and beyond instead of the average 6-8. In my opinion, had Duffy not return, Dallas' ratings still would have taken a turn for the worse, and the show would have ended sooner than it actually did.
It should have ended with his return season.
The final four were pointless and forgettable.
I watched this movie with my mom:X
I wonder if his comment about "plugging in another actor" was about Donna Reed.
Respectfully I believe it that
The "dream season" saw Dallas trying to emulate Dynasty, which was mostly bad (the only good to come was the upgrade of the interior & furnishings at Southfork). Dallas was adding Eurotrash like Angelica Nero and stupid story lines about Marinos shipping and Jack as Dimitri's lookalike. The show really got off course in 1985-86, and even though Duffy's return failed to revive the show's ratings, it was at least recognizable again as Dallas - one of the great programs in TV history.
The "Dream Season" was like Dallas took a whole new direction.
I think the biggest mistake was in killing off Bobby to begin with. They either should have sent him to the moon, put him in coma, or used another actor. But the character was essential to the show. They should have foreseen that Duffy could be lured back down the road.
happy 65th birthday patrick duffy !!!!!
Having watched Dallas when it first was televized, I'm reviewing Dallas now, and yesterday 1987 season ended and today 1988 season will begin. Anyway, I have to say that the season without Bobby (the 1986 season?) was really poor and made me not even watch it. The plot with that Marino(?) Shipping, etc., was simply not interesting. So I think it was more to it than Bobby not being around, although I do think Bobby makes Dallas more interesting. Dallas to me is Bobby, Ellie, JR, Pam, etc.
did they have Bobby Ewing resurect from the dead?? I was to young to keep up with that show as a kid lol
@v19d One wonders what Dallas would have been like had Duffy not returned. The fact that Dallas FELL from #6 to #11 in the ratings, despite the great effort to revive the show with Bobby's return in '86 shows that it was not all that successful. However, what would have happened if the show had maintained the 1985-86 course? Dynasty had fallen from #1 to #7 that same season & would shockingly end just 3 years later, so who knows what would have occured. I was glad to get 5 more seasons though.
The Dream Season was a totally different show.
I hear Patrick Duffy is going to become the Sheriff of Plano Texas
Gotta love the hat.
this is fun
They could have come up with a better plotline than "it was all a dream..." I say it should have been a defunct monitor machine, Bobby was buried alive, and it took him a year to return home after digging himself out of the grave and suffering temporary amnesia from being buried alive. Stranger things have happened on TV (abducted by aliens, anyone?).
Similar thought about the monitor here.
I thought they should have had it , that Cathrine & Angelica were working together. Catherine had skipped the country during Season 8. She could have went to Europe and met Angelica and plotted this whole scheme. Bobby was given, thru his I.V, something to pass him out.
The monitor was rigged to flatline, and that doctor that was in the room ,with the family, was one of Angelica's stooges.
Bob was taken to Greece and held prisoner.
Love the socks patrick!
I don't think that patrick cared how bad the storylines got just as long as he got his fat check.
Patrick Duffy made the show good again
Duffy appeared on a programme in 1986 called 'The Conversion Experience' alongside Richard Causton talking about Nichiren Daishonin's Buddhism. Does anyone have a recording of it?
In the new dallas he is already there
Yes bobby returned this year but...everyone else is leaving.
Maybe the producers decided to get rid of the old lot to accomondate Patrick Duffy's salary. If $75.000 per ep was even 'not in the ballpark' he must have been highest paid TV actor of his time. So out with the old and bring in the new for $10.000 per ep.
Oh, there he is again......Body Ewing.....never could pronounce his name right. 😍
7:34 You're not even in the ballpark yet !!!! 😲😲😲😲
The way his character was brought back was a little too diificult to swallow.
I agree. I recall Patrick Duffy wanted his leaving to be permanent. He didn't want them to leave an opening for him to return. Lorimar should have over-ridden his request.
@@paulk9985 Exactly. Patrick made his bed, so he should lie in it.
Larry cried too much tho, so everyone caved.
His character, was always too goody goody, that's probably why he left, he got bored
I had read in Tv Guide that he got tired of Bobby being JR's whipping boy. and that Bobby would never lower the boom on JR. he got tired of playing a truly good guy who never did anything wrong.
This is when Dallas died. PD's failed movie career had him crawling back to the show.
@@Remembering-rq6si 👍
I agree. I think the fans simply lost respect for the entire Dallas image.
Check out them socks
By this point Larry was making what, like $200-250k an episode? So Patrick must have been getting $150-200k??
Think hagman was getting £100k am episode at the end. Is say pat was getting about £75-80
This is pathetic to watch.
Duffy decides he wants to leave the series for bigger things.
Show drops 2nd to 6th , and that's considered terrible.
Hagman whines he is unhappy.
Duffy can't get any work, Hagey gets buddy back to show along with Katzman.
Capice is canned because Hagman crys again.
Show becomes Prime-time joke.
Thank you Larry & Patricia. 🤡
Duffy's return threw the whole show into turmoil.
The show required Bobby and Pam as it was like Romeo and Juliet. They emphasized the feud between the two families. That character was crucial. Linda was wrong about the show.
