The handshakes on headstones can mean a final farewell or eternal bond between the living and the dead. Clasped hands meant to portray the link between a married couple, or other times a handshake indicates God reaching out for the deceased to bring them into his presence
Also they are all different designs that are personal to the carver, usually a man's cuff and a woman's cuff, the hand that is on top symbolic of who went 1st and is guiding the 2nd one up to Heaven.interesting places cemeteries
It depends on how the fingers are placed or the type of handshake, but some handshakes are of that of the masons, or mainly the Independant Order of the Odd Fellows which were know in that area at that time, and also the Order of the Rose too.
Loved this instalment, Matt!! You’re a history channel - anything remotely historic is perfection - including those boomers with card phones!!! No need to justify yourself - just be you and I’ll love it. Cheers, Matt ❤️🐻
It's so great to see Bear traveling with you, love him! You're right, we Americans do call Peanut-butter & Jelly sandwiches PB & J, but when it comes to jam it depends on what region you're from. Here in the southeast, or at least the part I'm from, if it's jam it's called a PB & J'm.... I've always found language and how it varies from region to region so very interesting.
I live in Australia, I am in awe of your castles, old buildings, abandoned houses with so much history still in them. My family were originally from Kent in 1839, Ireland 1858, and East End London 1895. I just love your history and love seeing these places you show. This one was especially amazing, as I love old cemeteries, and castles....obviously not in Oz altho some of the cemeteries go back to about 1830s but nothing like you have. Bear is a darling boy.
I also like walking round graveyards! Whenever I'm in a new place, I always find the graveyards. I love seeing the old graves, and imagining who the people were, especially when it's a family plot. The children's graves are so sad. I always get drawn to military graves and memorial stones for some reason. Military graves makes me so sad, as I feel, they were so young, and didn't have a choice most of the time. They were inscripted as a matter of doing there bit for king and country.
Ooh, I’m drooling over the cockles, known in the states as the Heart Clams or small littleneck clams. They are the ribbed shells beach goers find early in the morning. Florida has a pink colored shell which is pretty cool. I also love periwinkles or winkles that are the sea snail one finds attached to rocks. I literally love sea food, I see food and eat it 😂 unfortunately I live way up in a mountain of a National Forest, but I do miss the days when I would wake up early to harvest all sorts of shell fish right in my backyard. I know... just sharing info and a bit of my life to feed the comment algorithm... lots of loves to you all.
I love to look through graveyards, too. ❤ I enjoy feeling part of their life in a way, wondering how they lived and what it would have been like. It would be lovely to see you here in Canada 🇨🇦, but we have nothing like you got to explore in the UK!
Sorry I didn't catch you yesterday. I am under the weather. Have to get some procedures done on next Thursday. And I'll be back fine and dandy. Love you both Love you all.😊❤
Matt, when we go to visit my sister’s grave, we look at other graves too. We love to read them. It’s nothing strange about it to me. To graves on top of each other is crazy. You paid for that site; that’s not right! Now William Shipley had the right idea! A massive tombstone is the way to preserve your spot! 😂😂😂❤❤❤. I’m glad you did the drone. I loved the music you had to go with it. 😂😂😂 Please land the drone…😂😂😂! Very funny! Jelly in the US is this fake Jam or Preserves that is very sugary and I hate it. We do have Jam but my favorite is preserves because it actually has bits of the fruit in it. Very good. I loved this tour! It was fun and you always make me laugh with the little joking you do like imitating the loudspeaker. 😂. Another fun tour Matt. You’re doing a smash up job! Love Your #1 Fan in the US. Betty
PBJ...could be PB & Jam 😅 Jelly is same base as jam, just no fruit bits..and I think alot of Americans call every fruit based spreadables jelly. Your sandwiches looked yummy! LOVED the video! THANKS Matt
If you like looking at graves, I enjoy hearing about peoples stories before they passed. I follow channels lamont at large. And my fave channel Faces of the forgotten!
I took some funky winter night pics in a graveyard once! Orbs everywhere, a pink mist in one. I never went back at night! I wonder where I put those photos?
I live on the coast in a small village. My nearest town is Blackpool. I haven't been "into town" for years, as you are right. There are so many shops that are closed down or falling down. The only ones that are still original and beautiful are the The Winter Gardens, The Blackpool Opera House, and The Grand Theatre. I wasn't born in or near Blackpool, but I try to avoid saying I live near there, as it is embarrassing. The place is so run down, homeless people, alcoholics and general jobless stinky people. I avoid going into Blackpool. Obviously it is like this like in lots of parts of the UK, and it's not their fault. It is the government.
Matt, I am Welsh (North Wales) and Rhyl is the pits, has been somewhat neglected for years. It definitely does not represent true North Wales. Get yourself down to Pen Llyn for some of the best beaches or rural NW Wales 🏴 have a good journey!
I do agree..but it depends where you go.... I live (like i said previously)...border of wales..wem area nr whitchurch..welshpool and wrexham( as youve said) i go looking for abandoned place around those towns and i love the welsh❤ honestly i think there welcoming and kind! And they LOVE dogs!!
Matt your explores are amazing...You would be much cheaper driving a camper van to hold all your gear plus you would save loads on Hotel bills as sleep and cook your meals in your campervan ....
No, I disagree totally… Extra extra road tax, huge amount to buy the thing in the first place… Storage… plus when I want to go to places like Bosnia, I don’t want to drive all the way across Europe. Plus, I don’t want to cook my own meals I want to experience local cuisine. And thank you it means a lot
absolute shame we didn't know you were visiting that cemetery, my friend, originally from Yorkshire lives in the house right next to the entrance, she would have made you a cuppa and told you some of its history
If I’m having a sandwich especially peanut butter i always have butter. My partner thinks I’m weird. He doesn’t have butter on peanut butter sandwiches or Vegemite sandwiches. Yuk Vegemite 🤮 I think I am the only Aussie that hates Vegemite lol
Matt! What in the hell is Cocoa pops?! We've got Kelloggs Cocoa puffs and Cocoa pebbles over here. What in the world is this? what else you got there ?
I’m a boomer and I always have a phone case because I always drop my phone. At least I don’t have a cracked screen like you younger people who don’t care about your possessions 😝😂

You don't go out looking for ghosts but occasionally they tend to find you and make themselves known!!🥰❤😂🤣😂❤❤🐶❤️
When I wonder around old cemeteries, I always think about what the person might have looked like.
Awwww a great video, but couldn’t decide if you were taking bear for a walk, or bear was taking you 😂😂😂😂
Wow that road with the boarded up shops looks a bit like hastings where i live lol ❤️xx

Rhyl is bad. But North Wales is lovely. You've put everybody off because of one place.
Amazing grave stones, so many things to think and wonder about! Wonderful explore!
