You just saved me like 40 min on trying to figure this out. Thank you bro
Thank you for this video, straight to the point with plenty of useful information
Thank you 😊
Solid video to show you how to defeat the purpose of a buying a new 4K 120Hz VRR ALLM next gen system in order to get yesterday year tech to work. Bravo
It’s mainly for the audio side of things
Do you know if by using this device and getting the optical cable from my receiver back into the xbox if it'll allow the xbox to control the volume and power on/off the stereo receiver?
Do you have to change your settings about audio from your xbox?
Could you use this on an e arc hdmi output to send audio to an optical connection on your sound system?
Excellent 👌🏾 Thank you. I’ve also upgraded to this Xbox however have opted for another brand which cost me £16 as the Amazon Basics one is now £42 and I wasn’t prepared to pay that.
Can you send the link for the brand?
Question, I am new with all of this but do I need to buy any additional cables or does it come with the adapter?
Reads mic? I have a Chord mojo that work with optical pourt and it has 2 3,5mm out to connect a headset and in my case a mic too. Would be great if it reads both items (headset and a 3,5 mic) thanks
With this setup will sound still come through the headset if connected to the controller? Or does the headset need to connect to the converter for function?
Would this setup work with a receiver using the optical through the adapter straight to the Xbox
Did you get any latency issues?
Thanks for the video. Very useful 😃
Thanks for this, just recieved and set up, works perfectly with my xbox series s.
I get audio crackling while doing this from my xbox to my GoXLR. Would this be because of a bad optical cable or some other issue?
If I installed this with my Astro A40 headphones can I use the Astro command centre again?
I just want to use my 4k BenQ gaming monitor. I was able to do that with my Xbox one X optical with my Samsung soundbar but had to move my 50 inch TV over on my bed stand because no optical out on the Series X. Will this adapter allow me to use my soundbar with my gaming monitor again using the Series X ?
Hey, just wanted to say thanks for the recommendation! I have a Soundbar and the only Sound options are AUX or Optical and the AUX sounds pretty bad. I bought this product and hooked it up and it works great.
Awesome !
@@DMProductions does it actually detect all of the options on your Xbox like Dolby digital, 5.1 uncompressed, 7.1 uncompressed etc? or is it just stereo when using the optical cable through the adapter???
With one of those I’ll be able to listen to my home theater that’s connected through optical port to my TV? I’m guessing I’ll have to plug the optical port now to this adapter instead of directly to my TV and then a HDMI cable to my TV but also another HDMI cable directly to my Series S ??? Cause that’s my problem, I have a home theater that I used to connect to my Xbox 360 through a decoder that converted RCA to optical and then I connected that optical to any my TV or my Xbox 360 and it sounded great, but now if I connect my Series S to my TV it doesn’t recognize the 5.1 output. What do I need to do?
Will you be able to turn the volume down on the sound bar using the Xbox
Have you tried using a 4K splitter one cable to tv one to this extractor just for optical audio? That way you still get TVs full 4K output or would that not work?
Good idea I’ll try it
How can I find this device?
Thank you thank you thank you thank you. I’ve been going nuts trying to find something to fix this problem. This is being ordered today.
Awesome enjoy !
The other way would be your TV has an optical port, some do some don't but check, the only other problem with this is there is some loss in quality, well there was for me but my TV is old old its still 1080p max lcd only. I'm still searching for something better than this product in the video because it doesn't do 7.1 surround or DTS 5.1 dolby digital I think?
Trying my third after market product that probably wot work for me. so glad the new generation of consoles saved us $2 buy deleting the optical port making hundreds of dollars of my current setup incompatible.
I know so annoying
does the optical plug allow you to have 7.1 sound with Astros headphones??
Regarding this device though, ungh can't copy paste on youtube anymore wtf? Anyways it says on Amazon page talks about 5.1 channel mode for toslink which is the optical etc.. but is that all it doesn't do 4k or anything like that isn't there a better one to get that does higher quality? my turtle beach is still pretty good I still want to use that for the series X.
I heard the sound quality of these audio extractors aren't that good I'd like to know if there's a better one out?
I have set this up but my mic is not working? I have Astro A40. Can you help
Does this create input delay?
i have i question. this is IMPORTANT. doing it this way, will the optical output put out Dolby atmos from the xbox series x to an atoms soundbar?
I watch a lot of blue ray 3-D movies
When I run my H DMI through my 5 point once around I can't watch the movie so I've been using optical in
Without the optical out I can't watch a 3-D movie that's the short of it so my question is have you tried watching a 3-D movie on your xbox with this optical out adapter?
Thanks
Does it allow 1440p and 120hz after connecting through the extractor?
Thanks mate. i solved it by connecting the optical cable to the TV
Does this work with Astro headphones with mixamp?? Using xbox
Thankyou for this. I just cant believe they took it off? A real downgrade for me buying series X. I use xbox one x with optical out to my AV reciever.
Will the quality be the same as what Ive got?
Oh, thank you for this video. One question before I buy that extractor though: does it output 1080p in 60fps?
I just bought one that outputs up to 4k 60fps and HDR. It was 24 dollars. Works perfect
@@SeanJohn127 I have the 1080p. It works very very good as well.
@@panfilip9963 you bought a series x for 1080p? Oof
does this work for a monitor with 2 speakers?
So I ended up getting an extractor from Orei and it works great with my series X, but my Ps5 does NOT agree with it.. It won't play HDR or 4k@60 like the Xbox does .
Bonjour pouvez m’aidez ?
Even newer adapter isn't 2.1.. So wont be getting true picture still from next gen.. Massive massive cock up in so called cost cutting from Microsoft.. Only option for me is a new receiver hdmi earc. No point having next gen and not running it as so is there
But it turns off variable refresh rate and it doesn’t allow you to turn it back on.
Thanks for the heads up
@@xxdirtydeexx995 no problem
Thank you!
But wont that now hurt my tv graphics? I have a game monitor for the frame rate and hd
A much easier way to solve this for microphones is that if you TV has an optical audio, you can player plug it in there! It worked great for me.
Thank you!
Does anybody know of any adapter that supports 1440p 120hz this one in the video doesn't if anybody knows of one please let me know thank you.
If your TV has an optical audio out you can just use that. Just hook your Xbox up with HDMI like normal and use the optical out on your television.
@@justinlee1421 yeah!! My TV has optical out. Thought there might be lag but it worked perfectly. 5.1 surround sound works just fine.
Gee you people don't stop and think. He's likely a player like myself who uses a PC gaming monitor which previously Xbox one X has an optical port unlike the series X. So basically he's asking if this box will allow high refresh rate PC monitors to pass through. I don't believe it will allow either 4k or anything above 60hrtz to pass through the box. You'll have to downgrade your Xbox and monitor settings for 1080p at 60hrtz. Also you will not be able to use Dolby Atmos through the box.
@@ICUEverywhere yeah bro you understand thanks for taking the time to get it!
Thank you
Can you still get 120hz thru this device?
I just thought of something you could technically get a good TV with optical ports out of it which these days should support DTS dolby digital and 5.1/ 7.1 surround etc.. for those that need optical at the highest quality?
I'm not buying a new TV. I bought a 4k 28 inch gaming monitor which I used my Xbox one X optical port to my Samsung soundbar. I had to bring my hulking 50 inch into my bedroom and set it on my night stand where my 28 inch was and its horrible using it close up. Microsoft really fucked people over removing the optical port. I almost took this back and got a PS5, however Sony pulled the same crap and now it's one big cluster fuck for people who want smaller monitors for gaming. This is very aggravating and a huge letdown.
@@ICUEverywhere Yeah and all for Sony and microsoft to save a few bucks on an optical port, cluster fuck you said it.
If it’s a headset issue like I had with my astro A50’s you can update them but be aware the update just gets you around the optical cable. It does not fix the issues they have with connectivity or if you have a surround system. They kept interfering with my Dolby atmos for my surround so I had to get a new headset to fix the issue because of the base station with astro is the problem. Go with the Xbox wireless headset, they’re Bluetooth so they won’t interfere with the sound and you can pair them up with your phone at the same time along with having all the 4K, 120, VRR, HDR and Dolby atmos for you surround.
Astro £299 worth of shit they sounded great on my xbox one x now the update sounds like shit they start Randomly bleeping and making wierd noises
Never had a isues on my xbox one x tho but that had optical cable
Why didnt they put a mini hdmi or something for sound for the astros because there is no difference between those two for sound but usb sound was a মিছাকে should of made it hdmi now we have to make it go hdmi optical spliter
im having a issue with my astro a 50. I have update the firmware, installed Dolby atoms on my xbox. And it still does not work. i interchanged cables etc. im using two monitors not a tv (that may be the problem)
How would I connect a soundbar without a hdmi in or optical port to a series X my soundbar has a usb for power then 2 headphone jacks one a mic the other stereo. How do I connect it
First soundbar ever made? Probably should upgrade
I guess you could plug it into the bottom of your controller. Since I imagine your soundbar isnt 5.1 this should solve it
Dude thank you
My speakers have 7.1 and 5.1. my tv has optical port but my series x doesn't have hdmi out. My xbox was only playing the 2 speakers next to the tv instead of all four around the room. Will this show up as 4k 60hz or 4k 30hz and i'm still not 100% sure if this will work.
How does your xbox not have HDMI out? How else would you connect it to your TV?
Just out of curiosity, why would you want optical audio?
Will it still out put 4K?
can Xbox SS connect USB DONGLE DAC?
Except I never connected my optical cord to my Xbox one it went into to the TV but I was still able to control my sound bar with the Xbox
I see this is only HDMI 2. Does this degrade the picture at all? The 120Hz options are all over 100 GBP so pointless.
Playing hell let loose with 800x is a nightmare can get game sound and talk but can't hear anyone else in chat also I lose the ability control my TV when using the splitter
I decided to to get a HDMI 2.1 120hz 4k 8k extractor cost me £120 but need something that is future proof because I have bought a good quality HDMI cable audio quest just need to purchase another one to make this work I love my Astros but the buzzing and ticking sound it makes is annoying USB sucks for audio it needs optical for better performance
What’s funny is they cheapened out on something that people still use if you are using a projector. But they kept the Ethernet port which 99% of non gamers would not use and just connect to WiFi
Wrong Way Better Connection Wired
There's a much easier way. Almost every newer television has an optical out for audio. Simply hook your Xbox up like normal and use the optical out on your TV.
This is for projector setups, not TVs . Big difference
And most gaming monitors don't have arc/optical
Question on this and anyone else using similar products, I heard there is a delay in video and or audio when using this with a sound system? Can anyone confirm?
sometimes slight delay but you can always change the delay lag
@@DMProductions
But at a cost of something? Like at the cost the picture or sound?
ok so i bought the 30 quid and with couple differnt setting try yes it works and HDR and 4k and 5.1 optical dolby . so yeah superb . thank you
oh yeah on xbox series x .bought today !
Enjoy it
with that setup can you still set the console to 120fps?
No, 60hz
Is the adaptor 2.1?
Does this run it at 4 k still
will these hdmi ports transfer the 120fps or higher refresh rate the console advertises?
This one is just 60hz
@@DMProductions what about frame rate?
@@peejey146 60hz is 60 fps
Plug the optical in the back of your tv my lg tv let me do it that way
Ty
Thanks🙏 It’s helpful for me to get downscaled 4K, you can already get 1080p to scale or downscaled in 120hz hookin’ up a Series X to the One Guide (HD Only) on a XBox One X that has Optical🤣👍🏻
That adapter suport 4k ?
Yeah
Whoever decided the remove the TosLink port should be FIRED!
The problem is that if you put any adaptor between the xbox and the monitor you lose the VRR. So this solution is not workkng for me…
I’m confused, I have a Xbox series x, Astro a20 and a MSI monitor, I need my game volume to come from my headset but there’s no OPT in port on my Xbox x for my mic receiver to plug into, only the USB port to power it, so but there’s only 1 HDMI port on my Xbox series x so even with this reviewer I’ll either only be able to display the picture on my monitor or have game volume. I’m just going to buy a new damn headset at this rate
I’ll just keep my Xbox One X Scorpio with SSD and wait for them next version of the Series X. I’m still using a 1080p monitor and optical surround sound. I’d have to replace everything
I find it so odd that both companies decided to drop the optical port. Like coincidence? 🧐
It's not the first time they make similar choices.
Yeah, its just like phones losing the 3mm headphone jack. They all did it in unison.
I once bought a high def soundcard for my laptop to get high def digital surround and it made a massive improvement.
I haven't bought a tv since 2019 but all my TVs had the digital optical port
Is this real or another scam like the rca to hdmi cable I saw advertised?
I just bought it for my surround sound but now it won’t allow me to play on 4K? Help plz
Plug your optical in the back of your tv you don’t need this box if your tv has optical built in
My lg 4K tv has it on the back
Apparently they don’t don’t support astro a50s on Xbox series x . Trying to find a decent adapter anyone help
Astro makes one.
I had a50 with base using optical cable on series x. Astro make their own splitter
These picks at Microsoft couldn't just put a optical for audio.... Not all of us have money for a new 4k receiver....
Has anyone tried using it for sound only? Just running the HDMI to from the Xbox to a monitor and then just using this box tho go from the Xbox to a sound bar?
Use the "audio pass through" check box in the Xbox settings. Make sure you have a compatible TV and to use HDMI 1 port or whatever HDMI port that says HDMI ARC on your TV
@@JordanWinn if in a monitor there isn’t an ARC option. Sound bar works for this
@@underachiever8532my sound bar requires HDMI arc and I just noticed that monitors don’t come with arc or with optical ports. So fucking stupid. I also tried using a 3.5 mm Jack and that doesn’t even work either. It’s the year 2023, I cannot believe companies and technicians can’t find a way to make things more universal! It’s like we have to buy certain things for specific stuff
4k 120hz?
Does it add any delay to the response time
Ik this is somewhat of a old video but I think a tad delay but I think if you have game mode on I think it fixes a bit of delay
It's very confusing how you explained the whole setup, had to rewind a few times to understand the process. Although it could've been much simpler I still really appreciate the time and effort you put in, thank you
It's pretty self explanatory...HDMI from Xbox goes to the IN on the device..HDMI from the OUT on device goes to tv/monitor.. Plug in the optical cable to device and to sound bar. Plug in the device's power cable and plug it into the wall outlet.
how is this confusing...
@@Fudro_ Did you read the whole comment or just the first 3 words, if you looking to argue with someone go to Twitter
why not just connect the soundsystem via optical to your tv/monitor ?
I suspect his projector doesn't have audio out either. I have the same problem with my projector
I need 120 hz, not buying a Xbox series x to not get 4k 120 hz. Where is such a adapter?
Interesting. I use HDMI EARC to Sonos. PC HDMI direct to TV for 4K @ 120Hz
Nice, how do you find the Sonos? Worth getting ?
@@DMProductions personally love it. I use the sonos Arc / Sub Gen 2 / and 2 play 1s for surround. Sound excellent, bass rocks the room yet the sub doesn’t vibrate. Amazing tech in that.
Can you connect it via Bluetooth or hdmi? I heard a demo unit once in Selfridges sounded awesome
I just put my optical cable onto my TV job done
Does that work? I'm looking at keeping my Yamaha DTS receiver and trying to use it with my series x
I tried that and couldn't get Dolby Digital at all
Does noone else think this is a major design flaw? I have a Dolby surround sound system....monitor speakers don't do the trick.
Prob with this is hdmi 2.0 and I want my 120 FPS and can’t get that with that adapter
Yes it’s not 120fps
@@DMProductions there is no way around it huh? I would have to get a different headset that doesn’t require optical I’m assuming
On the series X, I’m able to play 120fps on Fortnite, Destiny 2, Cold War and Master chief collection, while using the astro audio extractor
Just got a series X, discovered it has no optical, it is going straight back, what was Microsoft thinking not including optical, same for the PS5, not interested untill they put that connection back on, you miss out on so many options with these extra convertors, and there will be latency, and i refuse to use the old red and white for audio, what a major step backwards, what a big deal to include a $500 device with optical.
I know very poor choice considering lots of space on both
@@DMProductions i have decided to give it a try, ordered an astro hdmi adapter, that one has no added latency. But, they better have an optical for the upcoming model.
Don’t work for my Xbox series X I put my hdmi extractor to optical and nothing happens
noo need that wll use usb inted optical
The problem is that hdmi adapter is not 2.1 so you'll lose 120hz 4k contents using this solution... I hope will be released an adapter which supports 2.1 hdmi... we'll see.
Even with 2.1 hdmi you will lose the VRR
My Gaming Monitor only has HDMI and an 3.5mm audio port. My sound bar has 3.5mm I run through there which is essentially analog. It still is plenty loud enough it will piss people off. This way my Series X is plugged into the monitor. 1440P at 120hz no lag. Everything is clean
Astro makes an adapter
HDMI to HDMI + Audio (SPDIF + RCA Stereo) Audio Extractor Converter 120hz + 3.5mm Audio Jack
Epic fail by Microsoft but thank you sir for the info
And Sony
Yeah I just got my series X and I did it a bit different my TV had digital optical and I put the other side of it in too my home cinema set then I got the series X on HDMI arc and changed some optical setting on both the TV and Xbox did wonders so problem solved 👍
Does your chat audio work? I have a similar set up but I have no chat audio
Yes mine does
I have my soundbar hooked up through my LG C1 2.1 input on the TV and then run it into my senhieser ambeo soundbar which I replaced my Sonos with and it sounds absolutely amazing especially with my SVS subwoofer hooked up to it.
@@michaelanderson3703 how do you connect it so that the chat audio also comes through the device. I want to use a dac/amp. Do i plug the dac/amp via optical to the back of my tv or do i plug dac/amp to device and then device to xbox?
I’m using a tv from 2009 and it just does it it’s a lg 37 inch flat screen I’m using the toslink optical cable plug in the back of the tv
just update the amp
that only converted hdmi to optical rather thtan direct digital optical
If your TV or monitor has an optical port then your buying this dongle for nothing fyi. The norm now seems to be to send the audio from your tv to your audio receiver (amp) . SIde note if its not hdcp 2.2 (HDMI 2.2) you may get some digital handshake issues
Bro monitors don’t come with optical ports or hdmi arc! This is reason why we are having trouble!!! We want to game on monitors not on fucking TVs!!!
