Thank you for introducing Peter. What an amazing quilter and person! And thank you 🙏😃- my quilting adventure actually started after discovering you. My depression has lifted.... just wanted to thank you for that. ❤️
This was very interesting. I will not ever be putting quilts in a show but it was fun to hear about it. I love the quilt on the wall behind you, have I missed a video showing that or is it new?
What a humble man, he has a wealth of crafting experience and seems like he draws on all of his experiences to create the wow factor quilts he makes! He is a lot like you, so willing and able to share his knowledge with others, thank you for this wonderful interview!
I put together a variation of the disappearing nine patch by adding a strip to one side and another to the top or bottom. After cutting the patch and putting it back together gives the quilt a more random look - yet was easy and quick to put together. My husband calls it the "granny blanket" because it reminds him of the quilts his grandmother and her friends would put together. *I enjoyed the interview. It was very informative. Thank you.
Karen, really appreciate meeting Peter. This video was so professional, clear, well done from both ends. I recently saw another video with two well known designers and it was so sad that you could not see their quilts clearly at all. Thank you for your videos.
I love that he was making quilts that weren't quilts. I wonder if his skills with scissors as a hairdresser is what makes him so fearless with the scissors as a quilter. Great interview! Stay well, both of you!
Karen, fantastic interview. I never thought about show quilting..and this talk with Peter has me thinking about upping my game. I love so many of his personal insights. Great questions. And Peter was so forthcoming. Live this.
Very enjoyable interview. I also made a pair of covid quilts to express my experience and my hope for the new normal. “Shuttered” and “Unshuttered” are gorgeous! He talks about quilt design, experimentation, vision, revision and construction the way artists, writers and musicians talk about their process. There is a Major Thought to be communicated. The most intensely personal thoughts are the most universal. The artist’s unique rendition resonates with thousands in the audience. The story alludes to many other, older stories but is purely in the moment. Thank you for a lovely discussion of art.
Absolutely loving the new quilt discussions format. Thank you for introducing us to all of these quilting superstars! Have started following each of them and am learning so much! Yeah for the positive side of the covid shutdown! I have been pulled out of my own little world and introduced to a much more global quilting universe. Thank you!
Love your hair!! Great to watch two spectacular quilters' conversation. WOW! My favorite quilt of his is "pathways", so many colors and so beautiful! Thank you for sharing this
I am a beginner and have been quilting for about one year. I enjoyed your conversation with Peter Byrne very much. It was entertaining, educational, encouraging and inspiring. Thank you.
Thank you to both of you. It was a special treat to see 2 famous quilters in one discussion and even some show winners when I'm shut in now. Thanks so much!
Thank you so much for having Peter share with us. I've learned so much from you both. I'm one of those small apartment people and have no available wall so I use my queen sized bed for sandwiching. I remove all the bedding except the fitted sheet. I slide my cutting mat between the sheet and the quilt bottom and slide it along as I pin or bast. It's a bit of a pain but if I sit in a kitchen chair it's do able. When it's all done but near the head of the bed I just pick the whole thing up and rotate it so the head of the quilt is at the foot of the bed and keep going. I will most likely stick with quilt as u go after this one cause this is the second time I've done this craziness. And it's pretty crazy indeed!
Wow, Karen! You hit it out of the ballpark this time. I really enjoyed this interview. Peter is amazing. I can't wait to see more of his quilts. You always have great videos! So glad I started watching you way back when. You deserve the best!
Karen what a great interview. Going forward, can you please pause on the pictures a little longer. They are flashing by and I think I could get more if the pics were there a little longer. Thank you!
Loved this discussion. It has definitely peaked my interest and given me inspiration to keep going forward with learning to quilt. I’ll be checking out this hover quilting for sure. Thank you both for sharing your journeys with us. ❤️
Thanks for this, Karen. I've been searching for info on improv and modern quilting and for techniques that will take me beyond traditional block patterns, and Peter's mention of Curated Quilts has opened the portal to that world I'd been hoping to find.
What a delightful interview, Karen your so good at interviewing /chatting, you must do a lot of preparation for these videos, they are really great so thank you.
I must have been living under a rock since I've never seen his work but really enjoyed this and will definitely check him out. Thanks for doing these interviews
Well, I have intentionally avoided your interviews because I didn't think they would appeal to me. I've listened to 2 today and dang it - I'm hooked. It's so nice to hear about what inspires people. I don't have that individual creative brain, but that doesn't mean I don't deeply appreciate it others.
@@JustGetitDoneQuilts I'm a long time sewer and have been making quilts for 7 or 8 years now. I primarily only make King and Queen. I just don't have the creative piece to design my own. Keep the videos coming!
I am new to actually quilting myself but not to sewing. I so much appreciate the techniques in making quilts and all the creative ideas that can be done even with the simplest and basic patterns. And it is never to late to learn and use one's own ideas. Thanks to Peter (and you too, Karen) for the inspiration to try and as you say Karen--Just get it done. Peggy in CA
We were fortunate enough to go to QuiltCon this year. I loved how they displayed his quilts. You are right that looking at the back side was almost as great as seeing the front. Thank goodness we got it in before the quarantining.
Thank you so much for this interview. Had not heard of Peter, but love his quilts and process. Didn't think I would use instagram, now must. Living just north of Toronto (New Jersey) thinking about attending Quilt Con, hoping we get back to travel.
His explanation of Hoover quilting reminds me of the quilt my great grandmother made me when I was born. It's little Dutch girl/Sunbonnet Sue. She used a sheet and just appliqued everything on it. Even the sashing to make them look like separate blocks. In some places you can see where there is 3 different fabrics overlapping. I still have it and still love it.
I've only been quilting since 2015, but how have I not come across this ingenious quilter? Great interview, and thanks for sharing one of Canada's best kept secrets!
I love the interviews that you are posting right now. Very informative and a pleasure to watch and listen to. Thank you. And what a nice gentleman this is, love what he is making!
Really enjoyed this edition of the KB Quilt Circle! Just finished emailing Peter to sign up for one of the IG workshops - how clever is that, doing a workshop on IG?! About as clever as coming up with Stashbuster designs, eh?! I love it when bright folk get together and share!
Wow Karen this man is amazing. I feel like his outlook is what I consider real art, it’s personal it’s public it’s low key and loud it’s everything you want it to be. Thank you so much I really enjoyed this interview. ❤️🙏🏼👵🏼😷. Diana Romero
Thanks for the video with such an interesting artist. And as for you ..you looked vibrant on your intro...the background color and scarf just give you a glow!
I'm not sure you make mistakes when you play. You find things that work, things that need to be rethought, and things that don't work. You learn from each of these and learning is never a mistake. That's how my grandmother started to teach me fabric arts and I still play with fabric and thread. After 80 years of that play, it's still fun and instructional.
Karen and Peter: Hello and Thank You Both😀 This was absolutely wonderful! So many interesting facts and information was presented. Gods Blessings to you both ❤️😀
What a interesting interview, thanks Karen your videos never disappoint. I’m fairly new to the quilting world, so I realize there is so much to learn. One step at a time, is what I have to say to myself. Again thank you for sharing.👍❤️😊
Wow, I went to instagram to see his quilts. So complicated and beautiful. He is so creative. My mind would never be able to do any of that. What is hover quilts? He is amazing as you are too Karen. You have a creative mind and make beautiful quilts. Always learning. Thank you for sharing what you do. As I watch this interview I’m almost crying, because I missed the opportunity to take Peter’s course on City Scapes at Fabric Spark quilt shop. I had got the last spot in the class, and was over the moon with joy. Then Covid hit, everything got cancelled, and I lost my opportunity. Sigh. I really don’t think I could take a class on Instagram: I have no printer and my tech is just too down-level to work properly. I really wanted to take the class in person, at a shop I could even walk to! Maybe in a couple of years they’ll have more in- person classes, but alas I won’t be living in Toronto anymore so even that will be trickier. (Of course by then, his celebrity will likely be too great, and classes will be out of my price range). The repercussions of this stupid pandemic are great and small, but all pretty depressing. Thanks for posting this interview. Fascinating. ~Diana K.

How much of the thread size/kind, sewing machine kind, or fabric plays into the outcome of your quilt. Having just started at quilting, I’d like to make smart decisions.
I am wondering if a sewing machine like the new Bernina Peter ha, is safe in front of his air conditioner? Is the temperature too extreme for it? I want it to be safe!
I hope you are all safe and warm on this damp Monday. Snuggle up with your sewing and a nice cup of tea and listen to my chat with Peter.

As I've only been to 1 area show I have
Questions;
-Does it cost to enter a show usually?
-Is it better to start at a smaller local show to test the water?
-Are there categories that the quilter would need to determine which their quilt falls into? If a quilt fits more than 1 category how to choose which would be an advantage?
Normally it does...which is necessary to cover the costs of hanging and judging entries. The advantage of the local show is that there is a smaller pool of quilts to compete against.
