really informative video. I've heard a guy named joey sturgis does a similar thing when referencing other speakers. he's an incredible mixing engineer what fills up the progressive pop metal scene with his sound. and crazy breakdowns.
They're actually not that expensive to hire. And if you do a sessions in bigger commercial studios, it's not uncommon to have them in the mic lockers. Owning one isn't necessarily a reality for most, though!
I'm a singer who went to audio school to learn how to produce and mix my own stuff, I am still learning as I go but hearing that mixing as a whole can be a system of trial an error is really reassuring. I feel like I've come to a point where I finally like the way I mix my own vocals after years of hating it and felt "limited" with plug-ins. (Garage Band to Logic Pro X). I've learn so much from you sharing your process and am proud to say these audio terms are making more sense lol. Thank you Jeff. I don't have much traffic but I share my music on soundcloud. soundcloud.com/monica-tapia-14 -For anyone that wants to hear some of my songs.
One thing I absolutely hate about the MBpro speakers: they distort like crazy. You can't play any piano music on them without serious, very serious distortion.
So many comments about the microphone.. god damn when r u all gonna understand that mics won't do the trick 4 no one?! People runnin around worried bout a 15k mic like it will save their inexistent talent..it won't.
Unconscious social pressure to conform to other fryers, it's a vocal phenomena pretty much confined to those under thirty. Ironic touch: as an engineer he really likes chest voice and mikes / filters to emphasize that. I wonder if Barry White narrates his dreams.
Stefan Patterson There were about three different mix engineers (you can find them listed in Personnel on Blonde's Wikipedia) but none of them were Jeff.
Dude spent over 20 minutes sharing something that would take some 3-5 years to acquire. Y'all are turds to have disliked this video or this man. You are so underappreciated Jeff, you're a legend.

I engineered professionally for 10 years. I can vouch that everything this guy said is true. From being ready for everything and constantly scrambling, to mixing on shitty speakers at low levels. Good interview. Oh and I love that he said he doesn’t have sub on until way later in the mix. Smart guy.
I mean, This dude has mixed shit for people you’ve actually heard of, so I’d say what he says is pretty right on anyway, without the need for you to vouch for anything

Jeff is a fantastic guy. I like his attitude and value his skills :D
I like his speaker mix. Unapologetically using beats as part of his bass monitoring is ballsy.
