I'm Fran Raya a female singer/songwriter from the UK. I supported Eric Clapton on one of his Scandinavian tours with a set of my own songs. His band were Gary Brooker, Albert Lee, Chris Stainton, Dave Markee and Henry Spinetti. It was the highlight of my career and this song brings it all back. So proud to have toured with him.
If there are any serious bass players watching this; TAKE NOTICE; this is some of this finest contemporary bass playing played over such a contemporary setting! Im blown away myself!
One great thing about Eric is .......he gives credit to the great BOB MARLEY at the beginning of the song! He is one of those who keeps his music to the basics! Let Eric keep Bob Marleys spirit alive.!
even bob Marley liked this version bob said sometime someone can redo a song and sometime make it a little bit better so thumbs up from me this guy helped bob ,,roots
Wow, I admire you man. I mean it must take some guts to call two of the most prestigious authorities in the music scenes "hairy". Although I am surprised that you didn't call Phil Baldy.
Clapton's solo was great. Phil was trying to bring a little more to to the table with some more playing of the cuff then by rehearsal (very unusual for him) sometimes it worked sometimes it didn't but he is taking more chances breaking out of the pocket more. Very interesting footage.
You're right, I mean why couldn't he sound more like... See I don't know what to put there, you have an idea? Sorry I don't mean to be rude, I just don't see the point in debating a drummers stile. Works for some, it doesn't for others. One thing's for sure, he is a legend and a legend he will remain.
Master Drummer Phil COLLINS: he's the best live drummer with ec fantastic breaks : the only one to do that, there is dvd live and frinds birmingham which is better for layla for exampe FANTASTIC MUSICIANSSSSSSS Phi, we love you
80's drum sound? This was the 80's? I could not disagree with you more about the criticism of his playing and his sound. This is so excellent because of the spark that Phil is giving the band by playing much more loose then he normally does. He is playing more off the cuff and taking some more chances bringing the level of musicianship up a notch. The best version of this song I have heard. Not every version of this song has to sound like the band is smoking pot.
lol, I reckon it was Phil himself in the gorilla suit judging by the way he started that intro! (to everyone who doesn't have Cadbury's chocolates in their country, i was talking about an ad.)

@Steven5quier When Chuck Norris grows up, He wants to be Eric Clapton
This Fender only has 21 frets. Why is that? his sig has 22. Is that a "before production" one?
