    How do you determine which points will serve as x1 and y1 and x2 and y2 as the ordered pair? Does the way you choose them stay consistent over every problem when you’re looking for the linear equation? What is the pattern to always choose the correct set to represent the order pair?

    • @GeoMathLab
      @GeoMathLab 3 года назад +1

      The first point you could label x1, y1 and the second point, x2, y2. However, the x1,y1 can also be interchanged with the second point. So in summary, you can start with the first point or the second point when labelling. Trust this helps.

    • @marii7892

      My teacher taught is as the first set of points (for example -2,4) would be x1 (-2) and y1 and the other set of points would be x2 and y2

    I am confused as how you got the same answer for slope M=2 when you used y1-y2/x1-x2 when the formula is y2-y1/x2-x1 that tripped me ouut.

    • @GeoMathLab

    shouldnt slope be found by dividing y2 - y1 and x2 -x1? you did it backwards. Confusing.

  • @nenapadamejmeno

    I am not surprised why students are confused
    there is simple way to solve this
    we are given :
    x=2,y=6
    x=4,y=10
    y=mx+b
    so put x and y in place and solve the equation
    6=2m+b
    10=4m+b..
    m=2, b=2
    y=2x+2

  • @JenniferSmith-sk8kb

    It seems to me like you put y1 - y2 / x1 - x2 .... That's incorrect isn't it? Isn't it supposed to be y2 - y1 / x2 - x1 ?? You got m=2 and the way it's supposed to be done m would equal 2/1. What's correct ??

    • @johnhaley3137
      @johnhaley3137 2 года назад

      They are both the exact same thing. 2 is 2/1. 2 divided by 1 is 2. The equation can be both it doesn’t matter it’s finding the change either way
