  • tl;dw www.aa.net.uk/... is about half the latency ~15ms of www.starlink.com/ ~30ms.
    I would actually like to keep the device in cases where BT fails, but unfortunately they don't seem to do a PAYG option! / rural_uk_backup_for_da...

    Greetings from irc and thanks for the smoke test! Sucklessity truly lies in latency not in bulk bandwidth.

    Starlink isn’t a replacement for FTTP. It’s for places that can’t get that or if you’re on the move and need decent internet.

    The poor upload is the main concern for me. I think there are technical reasons for this 1/10 ratio. The sender antenna is more limited than the receiver. Latency is quite okish for normal internet activities. But the upload bandwidth is good enough for video calls. Video uploads would be a pain with 15Gbit upload however.

      Yeah it’s not for gaming. Only full fibre can meet the low pings for that.

    What about uploading speed? It's actually as important than download and latency, especially for backups and cloud storage.

    I'm Around Truro but rural, we are not due an upgrade anytime soon and are suffering so badly with speeds. If you already have fibre I can see why you wouldn't want this but I cannot even get fibre and we are the only place in Cornwall not due for an upgrade. I am thinking of trying it but there is a lot of gaming going on etc.. I wonder if it will support that.

    Fiber to the ethernet port in my laptop 1Gbit/s up and down in rural England, when?

      Good question, I think you can get it if you pay $$$$$ for it.

      I’m better off with Fibre since it’s cheaper and lower latency

    Why A&A over other providers?

    • @kaihendry
      @kaihendry  Год назад +1

      A&A has an IRC channel, sane staff you can speak to and much better networking.
