What would you advise for my farm kids who make cheese every week with milk they milked from the family cow ( or big brother's goats) and cultures they grew themselves. These are the children who grow their own yeast for the sourdough bread we all eat. Children who make homemade, cold process lye soap with me on a monthly basis. We butcher our own chickens, goats, dear and beef, so dicection is covered as well as anatomy and physiology. We routinely test our garden and farm soils for mycorrhizal fungi, organic material, compaction, mineral levels etc, following Elaine Ingram's soil health guidelines. The children already know how to prepare slides and what we're looking for under the microscope. What more do we need for when they reach high school? My oldest is in 7th grade this year. Oh, and I forgot about animal care, blood and urine testing, setting small bones, herbal healing..... How do we level up from where the children are now and still have it be new and interesting for them?

We are in the same position as you guys. My kids manage all of the chicken and rabbit processing and they help process the goats and pigs. As well as ferments, tinctures, herbal remedies, homeopathy, cooking from scratch etc.
But we still do labs with Science we aren’t as familiar with. They are taking Earth Science right now and they do the labs for the course and it has been helpful. I hope that helps! And hello from one homestead family to another!

I wonder how much your children are doing independently vs watching or doing along side you. Doing some of these things independently would be a level up. Or writing a blog or e book about what they know as a journal or story. Or perhaps finding an opportunity for them to teach others what they know.

Thanks for reaching out with your question! Wow what a wonderful hands on experience your children are getting! You can find SCM's recommendations for upper level sciences by clicking on the grade level drop down tabs at the link below:

I so love watching&listening to Ms Sonya&Ms Karen!!!😍My 3 boys have definitely benefited from Science experiments &we really hope to do more.👍💯😁I completely agree with Ms Karen's view on how "they" say one thing, then alittle while later,"they"say the opposite.🙄I tell my boys the Bible is the only Absolute Truth🙏📖&never spend too much time on passing Scientific fads.⏳
