  • Documentary film about Heinrich Neuhaus (1888-1964).
The English translation was kindly provided by "Pianushko" and "Noshirm". I tried to synchronize the subtitles as much as possible with the Russian original!

I heard Richter and Gilels live - both twice. I will never forget this. They were giants.

@@leo32190 Indeed, these were great experiences. Live they were even more impressive than on video or CD/LP. Unfortunally I missed a recital with Horowitz in the early eighties ... still sad about this, but it was difficult to get tickets ... 🤔

@@leo32190 Well, most of them are just technical, but boring. I prefer the previous generation such as Koczalski, de Pachmann, Igumnov, Cherkassky, Baerman, Ignaz Friedman, Moisewitsch, Siloti, Gieseking, Backhaus and so on.

Heinrich Neuhaus played my favorite recording of Vers La Flamme. I wish that recording technology was better in 1951 when it was recorded so I could hear the performance better. I like Richter's version almost as much.

It's a spiritual thing atthis level : what people really have in them . Igumnov,Goldenweiser,Blumenfeld ,Neuhaus and his son they exist at levels the rest of us don't really have access to . They know the instrument can break it up and put it together and notice immediately its mechanism and different tones ! I cant believe Gilels handful of chords in his Petrouchka . And bad Russian recording still amazes . We're lucky Eussians respected so much and filmed so much !!!

Thanks! I am really glad that you took the time to translate it, it's a very interesting documentary. Now I see that at 27:54, there is a funny typo: "He never tried to impose only one way of paying on his students." Of course, that should be *playing*! I tried to edit the subtitles, but I cannot find the option on YT.

Absolutely fascinating vintage footage - although now minus the English subtitles it seems (??) Perhaps they've been censored in England! :-) Interestingly Neuhaus's own sitting position seems quite low and his general posture at the keyboard is beautifully relaxed (and about as different from Richter's as you could find!) - but no wonder HN produced such a lovely sound.
