    Hands down, this is the best of ANY Prince protege! Jill does an excellent turn at bringing out the obvious sexuality, but also the yearning for someone to understand her. That's exactly what Prince wanted to convey, and she was the only one who could do it

    The JJ album is an excellent compliment to the Family album. Both are not too overproduced, yet funky and ethereal.

    “For Love” reminds me of ❤️ or 💰.
    The bass beat is on one side and the drum beat is on the other. Listen with headphones, it’s trippy.

    Videos like this are so important for people like me because I just got into this album! I was totally strung out for the past year on the Sheila E. album that was released alittle bit after this one. Jill Jones quickly took over as my album of the year for 2023! 🤣😂

    I love this album from start to finish. Jill's dog's name was Koo Koo - as seen more clearly on the back cover with her - and in the back with the couple behind her on the front. G-spot was scheduled for Vanity 6's second album. Violet Blue is funk poetry. I love her rendition of With You - her voice is flawless, strong and delicate at the same time. All Day, All Night was always a personal fave. My Man is fabulous! And, of course, Baby You're a Trip is marvelous. Mia Bocca video was directed by the genius Jean Baptiste Mondino and loosely based on the film Suddenly Last Summer...

    A true alternative Banger this was like a pre BJORK for me / I knew paisley park was gonna wind up being funky art house music factory instead of hit maker machine / way over the typical chart stuff at that time / voilet Blu was more like a acidjazz hiphop banger in the 90s than 80s anything and yes this album as PR pt2 as it was gonna get /

    Jill Jones held her own on this release. This was my first time hearing it. Although, the most promising Prince protege is none other than Bria Valente with her 2009 Elixer release, mingled with my two favorite Prince albums LOtUSFLOW3R and MPLSound.

    LOVE this album! Heard about it in a Prince book called 'Prince A Documentary" in the late 90's. The notion that much of its tracks came from Prince's iconic 1986 recording sessions lured me in. Last year, found the album in the dollar bin of an antique store on vinyl. Its a true prize of my collection. And perhaps my personal favorite Prince side project-as its full of full of funk and complex, soulful songs. That's my favorite side of Prince's artistry.

    The only reason I checked out this album review specifically is because of a version of All Day, All Night he preformed (that they say was in 1985) on his birthday. From what I heard from the clips this has to be one of the most underrated old-school albums ever.

      Prince's Friend Saxophone makes EVERYTHING 50% better (if played right). So I'm glad that Prince teamed with Eric Leeds. Eric is brother to Alan Leeds (Prince's tour manager, and was James Brown's tour manager back in the day). So I think that's kinda cool. I don't remember if you talked about that. Sorry if you did lol

    Jill Jones "All Day, All Night sounds a lot like another song Prince wrote for Sheila E called Glamorous Life because it has the same rhythms of Glamorous Life and sections or space to play the Timbales. What do you think?

      @PrincesFriend  7 лет назад

      Well it does sound like riffs from parts of Sheila's songs mix with pop life. I guess thats what Prince did. Mix and match. Have you listen to Prince's version of All Day, All Night. Totally a better song when Prince sang it.

    I really enjoyed this album. I agree with you PF that it does feel more like a compilation than a more focused piece of work, probably because the recordings were done over 4 or 5 years. I do rate Jill as a singer and I think this album shows she can do many different genres well. I understand there are other recordings in the Vault for a proposed second album. Might be a long time before they see the light of day mind, but at least we have this and for me at least that's a blessing.

    i wish that Prince would have kept *ALL DAY ALL NIGHT * for the purple Rain album but JJ really did the song amazingly well, but i still prefer Prince's original version better. *Violet Blue* is performed so beautiful and passionate with heartfelt convictions that...it makes you want to cry almost. I'm sure that *G Spot* was written for Vanity 6 but once again, JJ's strong voice was the better choice to sing it over Vanity or Apollonia 6. on a side note, i'm glad that Prince gave Manic Monday to The Bangles. They did the song justice where A6's version was boring and a drag but i digress. Overall, JJ's debut album was very good and deserves better reviews.

    I feel that your reviews are always spot on with where Prince may have gotten some of his tracks on Jill's album sounding music he had produced in the past. Jill's voice was much better than Vanity's...thank goodness. However, in my opinion, Prince was so smitten by many of his female artists he wrote for those songs/gifts, should have stayed in his vault. As for why Jill and other Prince proteges, not becoming big stars, again, in my opinion, it was just overkill. Too many people having the Prince sound was simply too much. I'm Not upset that they tried but Only Prince can do Prince. .Good review though, thanks for sharing.
