I have seen these guys live about 5 times and each time it's the same PERFECT BLEND. They have so much going on in their arrangements. You can't put 6 cats together sounding this good without knowing the theory of music !

I dunno, I actually prefer Joey's voice with a bit of husky-ness in it, I guess he's always gonna get compared to Mervyn since he replaced him, but you can't compare their voices, completely different, Joey is one of me fave voices in Take 6
@dpunero I've got to disagree. And as someone who sang with him for 2 years, I can say that Joey was born to sing. Look at how he puts his hand in his pocket! He would know all the parts of our songs. And I'm talking about over 20 years ago in High School and College. He left our group & immediately went on the road with Take 6 when Mervyn left. He was thrown in the deep end and survived. So while you are entitled to feel that way, I can testify that you don't know anyone who is more prepared.
Both Joey and Merv are great in their own way. BUT, :) did you know it was actually Brian Mcknight who was slated to take Merv's place. But, Brian had just signed his solo record deal ( One Last cry) and things really took off for him. . Joey has brought an R & B Soul singer edge to Take 6. Added the guy is musically a genius like his big brother Make Kibble. Merv is a genius and his strong ( Third from the top & 1st tenor sometimes over Claude-Think Get away Jordan at the end hight note...That's Mervyn :) second tenor /arrangments and songwriting is missed.

Joey is the most COMFORTABLE of the six...he's a true "sixer" ... you want proof? on the "old" songs, (first 2 albums) when Mark Leads, he covers Merv's 1st tenor BGV (2nd from top). on the old songs he covers Merv's 2nd tenor. 3rd from top on all "Joey era" songs he sings his allocated 2nd tenor 4th from top
@SWMOY then when the doctor used to sing fly away...even with Dentleboy now..he covers baritone..5th from top he then does a killer beatbox which, fair enough, most of them are quite good, but he seems to be the designated beatboxer. DO I EVEN NEED TO TALK ABOUT HIS LEADS? Should I even talk about the songs he's written?? C'mon son.....
Can anyone agree with me that sometimes all this sound equipment BS actually makes them sound worse? Listen to their practice, WITHOUT mics in the dress rehearsal and it sound sound much more full and better....hate mic stuff....
