The Remote North Shore of Lake Michigan in the Upper Peninsula: US-2 Scenic Drive 5K.

- US-2 is a main east-west highway in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. It passes by more sand dunes than it does towns along it's journey in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. I made sure to drive this route when it looks its best during the peak of fall.

Great playlist; and some very good videography. Amazing colors of the lake; almost tropical hues. Really seems like the immensity of that body of water creates its own weather patterns....
48 minutes of scenery... Yet I watched it all begin to end... No place else but the Michigan UP deserves this kind of love!
My longest stretch on US-2 was from Kalispell, MT to St Ignace, MI. back in 87. If you're not in a hurry it's way better than the usual interstates.
Love those passing lanes where people decide to speed up to make it harder for you to pass them... it’s almost always a thing on 2!

I’ve taken this stretch of US-2 several times. The drive is beautiful. Ironically, I’ve been on this road in Washington, Montana, Vermont, and New Hampshire as well.

@@michellekampe5619 US-2 between Manistique and St. Ignace has great views of Lake Michigan. Lehto’s Pasties (near St. Ignace) is quite delicious as well.
I used to camp along us 2 when I was younger.On the lake side in national forest park. Many times.
Have done that drive it was beautiful lots of fresh air.
Chris: You didn't even mention the Cut River Bridge... it's always worth a stop for the scenery.
Been going to Curtis in the U.P. for 60 years. Nothing better than that right hand turn at the 3rd flashing yellow light west of Naubinway.

Thanks for making this video of this part of US2. We're planning to travel this entire route this summer coast to coast.
Brevort lake campground is a beautiful area with great fishing. Dad used to camp there before the bridge was built. When the waiting time to board a ferry got too long, he switched to Higgins lake (north side) when it was a state Forrest campground and you could camp right on the beach. But I have camped at Brevort both with dad, and my own family later. Too bad you didn’t have time to see and experience it!
I lived in the UP from 1975 - 1983 (during my high school and college years) and I left the UP for good one week after graduating. The economy is nothing to speak of for someone with a STEM degree.
My siblings still live in Kingsford so I still go up there a lot. I've driven the US 2 stretch from I-75 to Iron Mountain at least 100 times since 1983 when I moved out. The video was great and that was the first time I saw the part of Naubinway that off US-2. Nice job.

I spent alot of time in the UP through the years, with friends, vacations, many casino trips, and I found it nothing less than enchanting, and watching this film starts to actually bring tears to my eyes. BTW, the casinos in the UP at one time had the best games, slots, in the USA,,today they are far, far from it, sadly. I actually believe some may be forced to close from lack of business. BTW, my brother in law and his wife moved from down state to the UP several years ago, you actually drove right past their house, he blew his head off with a shot gun over a year ago, so this entire film is very heavy and emotional for me. :(
Chris, you always capture the essence of the area you focus on. From the Mile Roads of Detroit to the beauty of the UP and Charlevoix, so entertaining and informative. I always love when your inner comedian comes out, too ("the sticks" and "hobo" lol). Keep up the great work!
Nice! Also consider circling Lake Superior - lots of nice rocks/hills/landscapes on north side. Or Lake Huron circle 😁
Just did this route on Wednesday! Loved every minute, but be prepared to hold it between pit stops, and gas up if you have a smaller tank.

I did the 1100 miles in 1958. Don't remember much. Turned 1 year old in Milwaukee. Traveled US-2 a few times over the years. A trip you will not regret.

i am not sure if you have been to these places yet, but the coast near gladstone and escanaba is pretty as well, and wasnt far from Manistique. sorry, i know im late to the conversation here, i enjoy all of the videos.
