And pot of greed was still legal (just limited)

This, but I'm the guy on the other side of the field wondering - "What the hell is going on?"😅 Like, can HEROs please get responsive Synchro/XYZ hand trap effect support/monsters(with Synchro/XYZ HERO monsters of course)? So that when Stratos/Faris inevitably gets negated/banished I can negate their negate and "change my original effect" to "draw until you get two monsters that meet a requirement to special summon a "HERO" monster from the Extra Deck and special summon it by banishing the drawn materials; and if Parallel World Fusion was drawn with this effect you can play it after this cards effect resolves, and that resulting monster can't be effected by other cards except "HERO" cards. Also keep other cards you drew in the hand(shouts out to Cyber Jar). Actually while you're at it, send "something, "absolutely anything", "somewhere" where the opponent wouldn't want it to go, if you want that is. Also, During The Damage Step Only, if this card is not on the field face down, add up to 2 tuner monsters from your Deck, Banished Cards, Extra Deck, GY, and/or your Opponents Hand; Then, if it is your opponents turn, you can normal summon one of them during the End Phase😂

@@thefoxwolfdraconis not really snake eyes combos aren't that long and the chess rule would have to stop your timer if your opponent is gonna play a handtrap or something like that so people would either play stun and control like disgusting labyrinth with a bunch of floodgates and virus cards or normal stun or still play snake eyes the only one hurt there is the rogue decks like synchron rose and so on so it wouldn't affect the meta too much and would shut down multiple rogue decks into becoming unplayable

All i ever experienced was getting trounced by my brothers Monarch deck, using my main Dragon deck…i love dragons but man they are not top tier sadly

couple years ago i saw a guy get DQ'd in a cardfight vanguard regional. His oponently literally called judge 2 minutes into the game and said his opponents bad hygiene was to distracting. Mind you, this guy smell awful. judge accepted the complaint when everyone around him complained as well. after that they put an official rule about proper hygiene.
But that’s just it, the real reason why Yugi is king of games isn’t because he has “the heart of the cards”. It’s because he actually DOES read the damn rules as he demonstrated against Duke Devlin.

Same. I feel like everything after the Synchro stuff was a mistake. There was busted stuff back then, but at least there were ways to counter that busted stuff, and still play decks you enjoyed. Now you gotta watch people play solitaire for 10 minutes, just so they can beat you in one turn, because all the bullshit modern cards can't be killed and shut off every damn ability in the game. Remember when Jinzo was good and iconic? Now every god damn card is Jinzo, but also blocks spells and has 3,000 ATK, with the ability to self revive. Screw modern Yugioh.

you'd be surprised... the judges ruled that a "symbolic" handshake is okay for whatever that friendship card is because a player came up with the nasty strategy of covering his hand in various condiments and sticky substances. Now imagine someone spritzing you in secret with a skunk spray or something and you realize how easily this rule could be exploited.
The amount of cards stops being an issue when you realise that most are segregated by archetype and those that aren’t are either from select handful of good cards that are much easier to remember or pack filler garbage you can pretty safely ignore. Just pick an archetype that looks interesting (and ideally doesn’t suck), copy a deck list onto some free simulator and try it out against a bot or someone else, it’s that simple.

The most unrealistic part of this video was Yugi refusing to read the rules. He was very thorough in learning the rules to Dungeon Dice Monsters when he faced Duke Devlin so he could stand a fair chance.
@@soundrogue4472 He didn't do anything considered cheating. Duelist Kingdom was before the card game, and even if it wasn't, Pegasus changed the entire way the game worked on the island anyway. Not only that, but if we are being honest- Almost everyone else in the Tournament was cheating even outside of Pegasus's rules. Bandit Keith, Mai, Weevile, Panik, and even Pegasus himself were all cheating.

I miss the days when a monsters attack points were enough to make it threatening and you had to think outside the box to overcome one with really high attack points.
Atk points were never threatening even back then because you had cards like Dark Hole, Raigeki, and Trap Hole to cheat out. And if you didn't pull them it's all just a matter of pure luck, no skill, to draw them.

@NoahToledo-xo5pj to be fair only Raigeki was banned for a while. Plus we had other problematic cards to deal with that weren't banned but were just annoying in general. Playground rules is all fun and games until someone tries to make it unfair by making shit up to make it so they only win which gets old pretty quick.

Ehh kinda, If you're a returning player and you're not familiar with how the game is played you definitely would have a hard time enjoying yourself. This is kinda one of those games where you have to learn before having fun instead of the other way around.

He's objectively correct. Forget just playing the game, do you even watch tournament replays? Swarming the board, searching your deck several times per turn, negating most of your opponent's effects, and getting whatever your designated boss monster is out in a turn or two is quite literally the objective of every competitive deck and player. I mean, dude, even the top players go on record as being annoyed by how many hand traps there are and potential turn length. It's 2024, nobody falls for the "lmao, you must be bad if you criticize the game's flow" meme anymore.
Yeah, that's why I quit yugioh. I had four decks destroyed....I can't afford it. Even worse, some dude used some weird card and the extra cards in my binder were destroyed
This is basically how i felt I played the og version then Came back years later to learn some gimmick has been added to every season of the anime so the rules are kind of complicated now
To be honest. You can still play decks with just Synchros or Xyz. Not every extra deck mechanic can or should be played all at once in a deck. Today's format, no one plays Pendulums anymore except now with Melodious getting new supports and having great synergy with Supreme Kings. Links are just as easy to use as any other extra deck summons.
Considering how Yugi is a huge game fanatic and knew way more about Duel Monsters and specific card interactions than his opponent usually did, I feel like he’d be excited to see the game change to such an extent.
after atem left yugi did not even made it into duel academy,also looks to me by the time of GX yugi retired,since the D was world champion for 10 years,also yugis deck goes on tour like some museums piece and why should he do that if he was still dueling

@@x527 An argument can be made that he would have changed it to keep up? Almost all other protagonists routinely change a lot of their cards. At the same time that feels extremely not Yugi like. But at the same time Dark Side of Dimensions does show that Yugi did keep upgrading his deck at a relative pace with Kaiba. Of course, these are 2 separate continuities, but Dark Side of Dimensions was written by Takahashi, so we have to assume in his mind Yugi would keep upgrading or changing his deck. And perhaps then giving up the version that he used early in his career. The only counter to this would be him giving up Dark Magician which feels out of character.
Yami Yugi would likely have just an FTK deck and he would find a way to play FTK every format regardless of the ban list because of his perfect knowledge of cards.
@@x527because, funny enough, that episode aired after the first banlist was put into effect and Yugi 's deck had almost all the banned cards in it lmao. With the introduction of banlists it would make sense that Yugi could let his old decks go on exhibitions and such things as he would be playing something else.
@@Raidraptor_-_Ultimate_Falcon Don't lie to yourself. Yugioh is complicated. You need to learn a deck for at minimum an hour of practice, in order to play it. Not only that, it's even worse learning curve of complexity for new players because of 10000+ cards and they could get choice paralysis because of that. "Learning rule" isn't enough. You literally need to be coached or you really need to be persistent (and even stubborn like me lol) in order to at least getting into the basic level.

Dude by the time of Gx yugi retired from dueling by the time of 5Ds yugi was only in history books,also yugi did not made it even into duel academy,also if he was still the king of games why is he not a pro duelist?also his deck gets handeled and shown like some artefact only reason for that is he dosent uses it anymore he gave up dueling

@@Rain593 A current modern META deck can banish around 40 cards from the opponent's deck before they take a single turn AND get 2 negates onto the field... deck limits are 40 to 60 cards... In other words, they can ZTK you if your deck is too small and severely cripple your deck otherwise with about any combination of cards in their deck. And that's not even one of the GOOD modern decks. In other words, decks have become so stupidly powerful, that not even having the ability to remove more than half of your opponent's deck per turn works...
but it's also what can prevent your opponent from destroying your non meta deck. He can't start his overpowered combo if you negate it before it starts with hand traps. Still I find it quite ridiculous it came to a point where something like this was even needed.
Tell me you don't build your deck to play through hand traps without telling me you don't build your deck to play through hand traps. Even HERO decks can play through Nibiru nowadays.

I used to play Yu-gi-oh when it first came over to the USA back in 2002. I was a Duelist Champion for the mountain region. Still have the trophy in my room haha. My favorite decks were the Card Destruction, Exodia and Blue Eyes White Dragons. I stopped playing after 2007 when everything went downhill and it became a rich mans game. Then 90% of cards are useless and too many new cards either get limited to one per deck or just banned period. After that, everyone plays the same deck so it was a matter of who pulls their combos first. I went back to watch some yugioh matches 10 years later and Im glad that i left because its a crazy mess right now. Hopefully one day I can build my old decks again just to have some good old fun with friends again.
@@bl00by_ No idea how the new Zodiac format is today since i haven't gone back to look at a single Yugioh match in 7 years. Yugioh had potential to be a great long game had the creator just made cards that were specific to each deck.
@@harryvuemedia5106 Zoo format was a specific point in time in 2017. Basically there was this one deck called Zoodiacs which were by far the best deck you could play, BUT you didn't had to play just Zoo. You could've also combined it with other decks aswell, which made it pretty intresting imo. (The only problem was the price if you wanted to play irl). Also going for archetypes was the best decisions they've made. If you look back at old meta lists from that time you basically saw the same cards in every deck. Archetypes allow for special themes and mechanics which make the game mich more diverse and interseting to play. Like on one side you got the cute anime girls and on the other you got a cult who wants to awaken satan while the cult leader also transforms into an eldritch god.
@@bl00by_ I'll have to look up that Zoodiacs decks and watch how its play. It is interesting to hear about it so now I want to see it. Yes, back in the 2000s, the META decks were all too common. Everyone had Jinzo, Yata, Monster Reborn, Pot of Greed, Raigeki, Dark Hole, Magical Cyclinder, Mirror Force, Injection Lily, and so on. You barely duel anyone that had unique decks. And good to hear that the decks are more diverse now. I'll definitely have to check out yugioh today and see how much it has changed. I do hope they got rid of the rich-mans game as I hate how the best cards were the hardest to find and the expensive ones too.
@@harryvuemedia5106 yeah about that... the best deck currently costs 1k, so.. (Tbf that's only for the top meta. If you play lets say swordsoul you should be able to get the deck for under 100 bucks. Probably even less since the swordsouls and the staples you need all got reprinted and are pretty cheap to get.)

That's what they want you to believe. The real new meta is to summon Gigobyte, equip Moon Mirror Shield and sit back while Dark Magician contemplates his entire career of being a Normal Monster.

Hand traps are a necessary evil at this point. But, traditional traps are more fun, because traditional traps are telegraphed by setting them which creates a mind game that doesn't exist in the modern day. Yugioh has a lot of issues as a game, but hand traps are one of the least problematic parts of the game.
In the olden days, they had 100+ terrible normal monsters, a plethera of unplqyable fusions, terrible equips, and tons of weird but useless effects. Thankfully we got a ton of retrains that made iconic cards playable, but a bit more complex.
Yeah it says something about a mechanic when you have to print stuff like future fusion, instant fusion, magical scientist or metamorphosis to make fusions even playable. Atleast Glad Beast made it good later on.
@@bl00by_but the first banlists all had old cards in them that stayed there for years, in fact I think there are still cards from the first banlist that were never unbanned, not to mention all the ones that were only unbanned after getting completely destroyed by erratas that turned them into hot garbage. The simplest ygo ever was only played in Japan where it was really a bunch of normal monsters with awful stats, non effect ritual monsters and some spells and traps.
From gen 1 banlist we still got the morphing jars (perma banned since they reset the entire match instantly) and I do believe the OG chaos emperor dragon is still banned despite there being a legal modified/nerfed version. The og one was beyond busted because it destroyed every card on the field except itself plus both players hands. And then deals 300 LP dmg for each card destroyed. Assuming your opponent managed to summon an entire board with effects plus had good draw power plus you yourself had good draw power plus a full field you can just nuke everything and insta win. Even if your opponent doesn't lose all their LP, they still have an empty field and hand vs a dragon with 3000 atk.
@@DomzyDX the reason CeD got banned was because the effect allowed you to send a Sangan on the field to the gy and then you could grab Yata-Garasu to make sure your opponent would draw no more cards until you reduced their LP to zero. The burn damage was almost inconsequential. The errata makes it so that you can't use any other card effects the same turn you use CeD's effect so that combo is basically impossible, and ofc that means the card is completely worthless now except in a custom format.

couple years ago i saw a guy get DQ'd in a cardfight vanguard regional. His oponently literally called judge 2 minutes into the game and said his opponents bad hygiene was to distracting. Mind you, this guy smell awful. judge accepted the complaint when everyone around him complained as well. after that they put an official rule about proper hygiene.

Same. I feel like everything after the Synchro stuff was a mistake. There was busted stuff back then, but at least there were ways to counter that busted stuff, and still play decks you enjoyed. Now you gotta watch people play solitaire for 10 minutes, just so they can beat you in one turn, because all the bullshit modern cards can't be killed and shut off every damn ability in the game. Remember when Jinzo was good and iconic? Now every god damn card is Jinzo, but also blocks spells and has 3,000 ATK, with the ability to self revive. Screw modern Yugioh.

The amount of cards stops being an issue when you realise that most are segregated by archetype and those that aren’t are either from select handful of good cards that are much easier to remember or pack filler garbage you can pretty safely ignore.
Just pick an archetype that looks interesting (and ideally doesn’t suck), copy a deck list onto some free simulator and try it out against a bot or someone else, it’s that simple.
The fact that it’s loosely based on the *Yu-Jo Friendship card rule* makes the ending even funnier than I thought.
Yeah people were using that card and making themselves stink so the opponent wouldn't shake their hand and get the draws or whatever it gives you.

The most unrealistic part of this video was Yugi refusing to read the rules. He was very thorough in learning the rules to Dungeon Dice Monsters when he faced Duke Devlin so he could stand a fair chance.

@@soundrogue4472 He didn't do anything considered cheating. Duelist Kingdom was before the card game, and even if it wasn't, Pegasus changed the entire way the game worked on the island anyway. Not only that, but if we are being honest- Almost everyone else in the Tournament was cheating even outside of Pegasus's rules. Bandit Keith, Mai, Weevile, Panik, and even Pegasus himself were all cheating.

I miss the days when a monsters attack points were enough to make it threatening and you had to think outside the box to overcome one with really high attack points.
Atk points were never threatening even back then because you had cards like Dark Hole, Raigeki, and Trap Hole to cheat out. And if you didn't pull them it's all just a matter of pure luck, no skill, to draw them.

This is basically how i felt I played the og version then Came back years later to learn some gimmick has been added to every season of the anime so the rules are kind of complicated now
I kept up till syncro and xyz, everything beyond that is just mumbo jumbo and I don't acknowledge its existence.
To be honest. You can still play decks with just Synchros or Xyz. Not every extra deck mechanic can or should be played all at once in a deck. Today's format, no one plays Pendulums anymore except now with Melodious getting new supports and having great synergy with Supreme Kings. Links are just as easy to use as any other extra deck summons.
Considering how Yugi is a huge game fanatic and knew way more about Duel Monsters and specific card interactions than his opponent usually did, I feel like he’d be excited to see the game change to such an extent.

@@x527 An argument can be made that he would have changed it to keep up? Almost all other protagonists routinely change a lot of their cards. At the same time that feels extremely not Yugi like.
But at the same time Dark Side of Dimensions does show that Yugi did keep upgrading his deck at a relative pace with Kaiba.
Of course, these are 2 separate continuities, but Dark Side of Dimensions was written by Takahashi, so we have to assume in his mind Yugi would keep upgrading or changing his deck. And perhaps then giving up the version that he used early in his career.
The only counter to this would be him giving up Dark Magician which feels out of character.
Yami Yugi would likely have just an FTK deck and he would find a way to play FTK every format regardless of the ban list because of his perfect knowledge of cards.
@@x527because, funny enough, that episode aired after the first banlist was put into effect and Yugi 's deck had almost all the banned cards in it lmao. With the introduction of banlists it would make sense that Yugi could let his old decks go on exhibitions and such things as he would be playing something else.

Not only that, it's even worse learning curve of complexity for new players because of 10000+ cards and they could get choice paralysis because of that. "Learning rule" isn't enough. You literally need to be coached or you really need to be persistent (and even stubborn like me lol) in order to at least getting into the basic level.

In other words, they can ZTK you if your deck is too small and severely cripple your deck otherwise with about any combination of cards in their deck. And that's not even one of the GOOD modern decks. In other words, decks have become so stupidly powerful, that not even having the ability to remove more than half of your opponent's deck per turn works...

I used to play Yu-gi-oh when it first came over to the USA back in 2002. I was a Duelist Champion for the mountain region. Still have the trophy in my room haha. My favorite decks were the Card Destruction, Exodia and Blue Eyes White Dragons. I stopped playing after 2007 when everything went downhill and it became a rich mans game. Then 90% of cards are useless and too many new cards either get limited to one per deck or just banned period. After that, everyone plays the same deck so it was a matter of who pulls their combos first.
I went back to watch some yugioh matches 10 years later and Im glad that i left because its a crazy mess right now. Hopefully one day I can build my old decks again just to have some good old fun with friends again.

@@bl00by_ No idea how the new Zodiac format is today since i haven't gone back to look at a single Yugioh match in 7 years. Yugioh had potential to be a great long game had the creator just made cards that were specific to each deck.

Basically there was this one deck called Zoodiacs which were by far the best deck you could play, BUT you didn't had to play just Zoo. You could've also combined it with other decks aswell, which made it pretty intresting imo. (The only problem was the price if you wanted to play irl).
Also going for archetypes was the best decisions they've made. If you look back at old meta lists from that time you basically saw the same cards in every deck. Archetypes allow for special themes and mechanics which make the game mich more diverse and interseting to play.
Like on one side you got the cute anime girls and on the other you got a cult who wants to awaken satan while the cult leader also transforms into an eldritch god.

Everyone had Jinzo, Yata, Monster Reborn, Pot of Greed, Raigeki, Dark Hole, Magical Cyclinder, Mirror Force, Injection Lily, and so on. You barely duel anyone that had unique decks.
And good to hear that the decks are more diverse now. I'll definitely have to check out yugioh today and see how much it has changed. I do hope they got rid of the rich-mans game as I hate how the best cards were the hardest to find and the expensive ones too.

People who hate hand traps are usually playing gimmick decks that loose to a single point of interaction

Hand traps are a necessary evil at this point. But, traditional traps are more fun, because traditional traps are telegraphed by setting them which creates a mind game that doesn't exist in the modern day.
Yugioh has a lot of issues as a game, but hand traps are one of the least problematic parts of the game.

In the olden days, they had 100+ terrible normal monsters, a plethera of unplqyable fusions, terrible equips, and tons of weird but useless effects. Thankfully we got a ton of retrains that made iconic cards playable, but a bit more complex.
Yeah it says something about a mechanic when you have to print stuff like future fusion, instant fusion, magical scientist or metamorphosis to make fusions even playable.
Atleast Glad Beast made it good later on.
@@bl00by_but the first banlists all had old cards in them that stayed there for years, in fact I think there are still cards from the first banlist that were never unbanned, not to mention all the ones that were only unbanned after getting completely destroyed by erratas that turned them into hot garbage. The simplest ygo ever was only played in Japan where it was really a bunch of normal monsters with awful stats, non effect ritual monsters and some spells and traps.
From gen 1 banlist we still got the morphing jars (perma banned since they reset the entire match instantly) and I do believe the OG chaos emperor dragon is still banned despite there being a legal modified/nerfed version. The og one was beyond busted because it destroyed every card on the field except itself plus both players hands. And then deals 300 LP dmg for each card destroyed. Assuming your opponent managed to summon an entire board with effects plus had good draw power plus you yourself had good draw power plus a full field you can just nuke everything and insta win. Even if your opponent doesn't lose all their LP, they still have an empty field and hand vs a dragon with 3000 atk.
@@DomzyDX the reason CeD got banned was because the effect allowed you to send a Sangan on the field to the gy and then you could grab Yata-Garasu to make sure your opponent would draw no more cards until you reduced their LP to zero. The burn damage was almost inconsequential. The errata makes it so that you can't use any other card effects the same turn you use CeD's effect so that combo is basically impossible, and ofc that means the card is completely worthless now except in a custom format.
