3. AN LONG AN’S PLACE: Stir-fried Bugs + Steamed Rats with Cassava + Rats BBQ + Roasted Birds

🐛STIR-FRIED BUGS: Clean the bugs and then place peanuts inside them. Deep fry with a mixture of oil, garlic, fish sauce and MSG.
🐀STEAMED RATS WITH CASSAVA: Pour coconut water in a pot, add cassava and salt and cook. Pour out the coconut water and place the rats inside the pot. Cook the rats with the cassava until it is ready.
🐀RATS BBQ: Season the rats with shacha sauce, fish sauce and MSG and then grill on charcoal.
🐦ROASTED BIRDS (Swallow & Coucal): Clean the birds and then season with garlic, MSG and fish sauce. Fry garlic in a hot pan with oil. Deep fry the birds until they are golden brown.

I watch your show while I’m making supper. Many times I’d like to try what you’re eating too and other times I feel very thankful for the meal I’m cooking. What I really enjoy about your show is how you include educational info about the cultures you’re talking about and ask good questions of the locals to figure out things. All the while being respectful with the perfect amount of humour. Other viewers, especially the ones from the areas or cultures you’re showing add so much extra value to the episodes via the comments section because things are debated or further confirmed and many personal experiences are shared.

How is that different from eating cows or pigs anyway? These people are poor and they are used in eating like this, they are doing it for their survival. I absolutely loved the tour guide! He was so amazing and so true. And I've seen a lot of I don't know how you say it just a lot of controversy about that but you know it's no different than our culture and stuff we don't like to eat. Most vegans are aware of the reality of a (still) non vegan world. It means living among people who support the cruelties you're fighting against, a fact that has to be accepted if we want to maintain a social life
Not really. I am vegan and I m here almost every 2 hours. Whenever I switch on the TV. Got no clue why.

Vegan here! For me, it's the difference between animal cruelty to the purpose of money gain and hunting/selling the animals you farmed for sustain.
One is actively ruining the environment, giving animals the worst treatment possible and just for lining the pockets of the few.
And in this kind of video you can clearly see how most of the world outside the Western countries are living entirely into nature, living in the same land and drinking the same water as the flora and fauna.. they appreciate the sacrifice of the animals they butcher themselves. We are detached from this kind of appreciation for nature, hurled in our grey cities and our trips to the grocery stores, where the meat of suffering and abused animals is prepackaged for your comfort.

I’m Vietnamese myself but I have never eaten these kinds of food and I don’t think I ever will. I respect Sonny for exploring more of my country’s culture in certain parts that I have never been to. However, people should know that these foods are not normal to most Vietnamese people either, especially those who live in the city.
