I’m really looking forward to getting the PS Portal, despite the hate it’s been getting. Having a handheld that plays my PS5 library of games is awesome. I’ll only be using this at home, so the fact it needs to be connected to the internet, using a stable wi-fi connection. Having the same functionality in the Portal’s controllers, as the DualSense, is fantastic. I’m a subscriber to PS Plus Extra, so not being able to stream older PS games, via the Cloud, is not a problem for me. Provided I have access to PS Plus Extra games via the Portal, I’m very happy. 👌
If you are going to use it as a remote play accessory it's fine.

It’s a fine product, but knowing all of this could’ve been an update to the remote play feature on phone tablets etc. makes it have a sour taste. I want a device that runs remote play well, but it’s sad that we gotta buy another device for it instead of them upgrading the service that is meant to do so in the first place
@@middle_kiwi4020 I think the biggest problem is there is no guarantee on the quality of an application that is installed on a device made by another company.
With this, there is no other applications or software that is outside of its reach. It is all in house controlled and honestly you get a better experience nine times out of 10 only time will tell but there’s no reason on dogging it if no one has used it except for high-end reviewers

This is an accessory. Not a system. That's why it's so cheap. For 200 you more than get what you Pay for.

Bro why can’t Sony just improve remote play app. Like the Portal would be really good if it wasn’t for the fact remote play exists. Everything good about this product can be said about Remote Play itself. Idk
It’s not just as simple as improving the app. With portal Sony controls both hardware and software so I’m expecting this accessory to work really well.
This is a remote play device for $200. That's overpriced.
Being able to play in a different position is great! With the PS Portal you’re not bound to just sitting in your chair playing, this is an awesome device and can’t wait to try it out!

@Vazter you know what they meant lol, as in anywhere in the house, and in any position, like laying down, I think some people don't have a bug tv in their main bedroom
I personally like it due to the fact I like playing the switch on my bed or couch after work when I’m tire which is far to the tv so this will definitely be use around my house or other peoples place 😃🤙🏼

I'm sick and spend alot of time in the bathroom, sometimes for over 2hrs. This would eliminate that time lost gaming wise
What they should've made was a screen that plugged into the USB-C port of the dualsense. That's all that we needed.
Nah.. its so much more than that .. for that just use ur phone .. this will be better connecting than just using remote play app

Dunno what the big deal is. They been saying it's just an accessory for the PS5 since announcement. I understand what that is. It's an accessory I wouldn't mind having as sometimes I want to move around my house and not be confined to the one spot in my house where the PS5 is hooked up.
And of all the handhelds out there FINALLY I find one that has a controller setup that I can get behind. The number one reason I never got a switch or any other handheld was the wonky ergonomics of all of them, with small exception of the PS Vita which is not to bad.

People just forget about family's that must share there tv, for them this is a must to keep on gaming. It's just bad that most of us just think only about a themselve wile there are millions of family's that wants this.

The only people hating on this are people who dont understand it and have never used remote play.
Remote play works very well, even over 4g/5g.
This device allows you to play full PS5 games on a handheld, anywhere in the world with internet access, for only £200.
To play PS5 quality games on a dedicated handheld would be comparable to a gaming laptop well over a £1000
Sony havent supported bluetooth audio since PS3, as the latency is awfull, and a device like this need to illiminate every possible bit of lag.
You still have loads of options, Sony wireless headsets (expensive), wired 3.5mm headphones, or third party ones coming soon.
I couldn't get much time to play as a dad, now I've almost beat a game, the portal is a game changer for me.
Steamdeck? If you can afford both a PS5 and this you can afford a Steamdeck.
This is why ps vita is still a 🐐 handheld
It is but you can't play new games on there and graphics not the same for now.
Truthfully, something told me I should have just gotten the backbone for my phone, but I wanted to take a chance with this. I already pre ordered it, so I might as well stick with it.

Enjoying mine the latency is a pain though. Either my WiFi isn't up to it. Or maybe future updates might stabilise issues.

Seen a lot of these videos trashing the device. For me when the main tv is in use for the family this is a good option. Could use a backbone but I don’t want to ruin the battery on my phone and it’s massively cheaper (and limited) than the other good portable options
You can buy a 4k tv for the same amount as the portal.
People need to consider the fact that Sony themselves are investing in live service games. I personally think this device will be used to acclimate gamers to the future of gaming. Some people see this as a failure, I see this as a social experiment to see if people will be ready for the next step in the future of gaming. I like the fact that it be able to play my library of games when I don’t have access to a TV or just want to lie in bed at night. I think there will be software updates that could include cloud gaming. Sony definitely has a strategy to this that many don’t see the potential for
I agree .. people screaming vita vita .. vita wasn't a big hit when it first dropped 2 years later is when people took notice.. they wanted a new one now cuz they don't want to buy the China handheld device. I don't know the name of them .. but this is useful to me .. I do alot at once .. watching football on tv .. Facebook on phone .. now I can play 😂😂😂 my game too
Remote play is good, but it already exists via the app for devices you may already have. Yeah this is gonna run better, but it kinda shows they aren’t gonna improve remote play app at all. Paywalling a better remote play, which at the end is just a normal company move, but doesn’t make it good

@josephsmyth832 Once again, how is this live service or a step toward the future in gaming when it doesn't even support streaming? There is no chip or processor in the device. It's literally just a screen and a controller, lol. If anything, that's two steps backward in the gaming industry, not forwards.
I don't see what's the fuss and confusion are. It clearly says portal, not portable. It's a PS5 asseccary for remote play. Nothing more. It's not a stand-alone dedicated portable device.This is something that's not for everyone. I like it. I hate when I do remote play on my phone and have to haul my controller everywhere,find a place to park my phone. Then my phone gets hot and battery drains, after that remote has to be charged. Don't like the backbone cause of the button layoutso that sucks. PS portal solves my problem.

Can I turn my ps5 on AND off via portal? Say my ps5 is plugged in and the switch is on will it work via portal? Someone said it has to be in rest mode to be able to turn it on which is a waste of electricity if you’re out the house and want to play. If you can turn it on and off without rest mode I’ll be pre ordering

I’ve literally never had issues with my 13 pro max and backbone using my 5g data through T-Mobile and ps5 remote play from cox home internet which was like 100up and 750down…. I wonder if the ps portal can work while away from home if connected to a mobile hotspot
That would be the one saving grace for it. Remote play is spotty for a lot of people, and this portal shows they ain’t gonna upgrade it. Might as well use money to buy a better internet plan
@@middle_kiwi4020 the portal at least from home sounds like it works better than remote play apps because it has ps link compatibility which means it should be low latency like the Wii U gamepad. I had a Wii U and it was very low latency even playing competitive games that need frame perfect inputs like smash 4.. still though this ps portal is lazy as f

The hate this accessory is getting is crazy! And I do say *accessory* people need to stop comparing it to a psp or a vita or even a switch or stream deck it's nothing like them , yeah sure it doesn't hit the levels everyone is expecting but it's for remote play that's it!! Let's not get it twisted people it's good for the people who don't get to watch TV due to kids hogging it etc in that scenario its good enough to purchase in my opinion

Yeah, I'd rather be able to stream like Xbox. When it does work (so far I've only had trouble with Starfield) it's actually pretty seamless between console and whatever other device I stream on. They REALLY should implement something like that.

Most disc nowadays don't have the full game on it and will download it from the game store
I wish the could add the psvita games store or download console games on mobile but yeah I’m getting I’m just wish someone to mod or turn into a table like android or apple with the easy to use

Can u still use the ps portal if the PlayStation is switch off, the reason for asking is they say it is just like remote play and currently you can't use remote play if the ps is switch off, because it needs to link to the PlayStation

No. You can be away from the PS5. As long as you have good Internet signal on both ends.
Im going to use the portal in my sleep.
I use my ipad and connect a ps5 controller to it with the Remote Play app.
And at least my ipad lets me connect bluetooth headphones to it.

You have to leave the ps5 on to play it . If you turn off the ps5 it won’t work.

@teamofone1219 Already have a TV in every room, The PS is in the living room so that the rest of the family can use it. Occasionally, I like to play Rocket League or PGA 2k. And there is better space when we are all playing family VR games every now and then.

Handheld system. How you going to sell people on this? If you have a laptop, tablet, smartphone… you can already do everything this crap is offering…
Worse if they released a ‘real’ handheld though right?! Separate software support would kill it fast like Vita. Much higher cost and bulkier than portal to include high spec cpu, gpu, ram, storage, fan etc. And you’re not playing PS5 games (where your library of games are) unless you use remote play on it. Portal makes the most sense. In the future It only needs a cloud streaming update and possible 5G support away from my perfect gaming handheld.
The money Sony wasted on the portal honestly could’ve gone to improving the remote play app. However then they wouldn’t make any money on it, though would they even break even with this?

I got kids, I don’t wanna play God of War or Call of duty on the screen with them running around nearby. This is a must purchase for me! Love this!
In the evening….they can snuggle, relax, and watch their cartoons. While I can be right with them and play my favorite games. So getting this
I’m a truck driver I would love to have this but I play FPS games and the slight delay will just get annoying. L for FPS players. W for single player games like Spider-Man

It turns on and off remotely with the handheld. You don't need to leave it on.

This thing is just a wifi controller with a screen, a cash grab for dummies. And then they didn't even add bluetooth, so it's a paperweight if you have no wifi. They should add bluetooth and sell it as a controller, then they could somewhat justify the price. But for now its a pass for me.

It’s saying you can’t stream games from ps plus. If you download the game from ps plus does that mean you can play it ??? That’s the bit putting me off. If I can use my premium account and download games that’s cool. It’s very unclear what you play. I will wait to others buy it and go from there.

The small itty bitty performance boost from the portal to play your downloaded ps games only is nothing compared to a device that can stream 100s of games through cloud streaming while can also have apps to watch netflix, tik tok, youtube, and even surf the web all in one. No extra cost

@@Kinggamer20032 oh like overload the battery so its usage is short? Not sure how your gona overload your phone but if you do im pretty sure your ps5 is overloaded as well. So paying 200$ is ok to have a shorter battery life, no extra functions, lower resolution screen, but dualsense controller features? It doesnt make sense to do that when you already have your phone to pay no extra cost, app functionality, internet access, higher resolution, longer battery, and it can fit in your pocket. The only reason i see to have the portal is if you are a big fan of the dualsense controller and you want those features mobily.
What other handheld would you suggest other than switch?

This is perfect for a hypothetical guy who hypothetically bought a PS5 without telling his wife and hasn’t been able to play it.
He could theoretically set up the PS5 in a place like the back of the basement where his wife never goes and be able to play the only $200 handheld device because his wife isn’t into gaming and wouldn’t know that you need a PS5 to play this.

The problem is the design. We need a screen that sits higher than where the controls are. Maybe a screen that folds out and is more ergonomic and better for your neck. Now you need to constantly look down or hold your hands high up.

Honestly wish the time on this was used to make Remote play app better. The remote play feature of the portal isnt the problem, it’s the fact that other devices do this, but they want to get money from improving the model so here’s the Portal, but idk if they’ll even make money on it
