      That’s actually a smart business tactic for them to stay in business. There’s a plant shop near me that has always been a coffee and plant shop, but they figured out about a year and a half or so ago that the coffee business was keeping them more in business than the plants. So they expanded the seating area and started offering food as well. 💚

    I think for most people we want a plant we really like the look of, is interesting to grow and really worth it. Everything I buy now {since my novice phase} has to be worth the money, time and space.It is much needed that the grower put the name of the plant on it.

    As a person who has an entire milsbo built out as a dedicated begonia terrarium, I'm stoked for begonias to have their moment. I do agree canes get unruly pretty fast though and will probably end up being a bit of a "phase" for people. And personally, rexes have never been my jam (I just dont like how they look), but they do grow more manageably for the people who get into them. I think the real gems of the genus are among the terrarium species (those are the ones that typically stay much smaller), but given that most people aren't going to make the move to super high humidity growing, those will probably not boom like the ones that can grow in room conditions. I wish they would though - they are magical.

    @wkay4124 15 дней назад +1

    Love the video😊
    Unfortunately I am in my begonia era at the moment, and am full to the gills with begonia info so forgive me for saying, but typically the American begonia societies categorise begonia into three groups - rhizomatous eg rex begonia; tuberous, which form little tubers / "potatoes" / caudeces in the soil, a more prominent example would be begonia dregei or what's commonly referred to as bedding begonias, and people often treat these as annuals and store the tubers over winter; and then the last is fibrous, where the roots don't form a rhizome or tuber, and are more fibrous, like most regular houseplants, cane begonias are in this category. Hope that wasn't too much of an info dump 😅

    I’m trying to cut back and be more cautious about plant buying. A lot of variegated plants do look very similar. I never got the hype over the Strawberry Shake. To me, it looked almost identical to the previously hyped, then passé, Pink Princess. Some Costa Farms “rare” cacti hit the local big box stores last week and made a bit of a splash in my local plant group. I got a few. They are small, colorful, and don’t need frequent watering!

    I try to buy local, so those online auctions have no hold on me. When I buy from online sources, it's usually from bigger "shops" like Steve's Leaves or Gabriella Plants, who have a well-established reputation. While I have purchased from Etsy sellers, I've found it to be hit-or-miss (for plants, I mean.) About the trends you speak...I hope to find one of those Doc Block Anthurium in a big box store, and I don't mind waiting another 2 years until they are super common and I can get them for $20.

    Begonias?!? I think the reason the popularity would be short lived is because the plants are short lived. At least in my house. I had a Rex Begonia when I first got into plants, and when it died I was like, “Nope.” That was enough of that. You let them dry out too much one time, and RIP. 😂
