    I'd say to have a DH in both leagues, but give the managers a choice of whether they want their DH to be the pitcher starting, or if they want the DH to be another player on the bench. When the SP gets taken out, then that SP can remain the DH, the relief pitcher will be the new DH, or the manager will choose another hitter on the bench to be the DH. It will benefit two-way players like Mckay and Ohtani or other pitchers who like to hit and are good at hitting.

      I think the problem with the whole NL trying it out would be that some teams would be hate it and some would love it, so half the league wouldn’t like it but be forced to do it. The only way to keep everybody happy would be to let each team determine if they allow DH in their home park or not, but that’d be tedious and require teams to go back and forth with rules every away game.

    My answer is that it is in the game in the AL. Let it stay there. That's tradition. As a kid who grew up watching the game, it's all I've ever known. The two different ways of playing the game. I admit I like the deeper strategy of the NL game... and back in the day, I would have argued to remove it all together. But I now see the value of the DH... it helps star players extend their careers in some instances and it produces more offense. That's why now, I say keep it in the AL. It's fun to see it used in the AL.

    Here’s the problem with having pitchers hit under 2019 rules: unlike the other 8 fielders, pitchers are not everyday players. I could see a compromise in the future which amounts to the modified Shohei Ohtani rule: in the NL, the DH must be a member of the starting rotation, whether they are the day’s starter DHing for themselves, or DHing for the rest of the pitching staff. This gives everyone an incentive to develop more two-way players and lets the pitchers who like hitting get a chance to earn the right to represent their pitching staff at the plate.

    @monochameleongaming5317 3 года назад

    A lot of people have hot takes about interleague play, actually. But that's beside the point. The DH goes against the grain of most sports - except, interestingly, American Football - in the sense that if you are part of the team, then you are part of the team, not just when you're useful but for the whole time. In cricket, there have been attempts to create a "supersub" rule and replace a bowler with a batter, but they never caught on and even when they were on the books, captains agreed not to use them at the highest levels. Your abilities have to balance - sure, a pitcher might get out easily, but that would be inverse to the amount of players they get out in turn, the same way the best cricket bowlers usually score virtually no runs but save so many as to make up for it. And its a disadvantage that both teams have to deal with, so...yeah. I can see the point of the DH, but it feels intrinsically wrong to me on a sporting level.

    MLB is not a sport it is a business. The object is not to sell baseball it is to sell a product. People don't like baseball they like entertainment.

    DH is a good chance for player that can't field, but a pitcher who can hit deserve some advantages, I dunno...
    Edit: I think they should not change anything, a legue has it and a league doesn't, so DH and pitchers who are good at bat can live together.

    I’m with the Universal DH. If we can protect the pitchers health, when they don’t really hit well after all, why wasting time? And it can make the game more exciting, with more offense

    • @large_crab
      @large_crab 4 года назад +1

      The "health" excuse is just bullshit. Pitchers are some of the greatest athletes in the world, you really think they're gonna get injured running for 5 seconds down to first? Sure they could get hit by pitches but that usually comes with no injury.

    they should let the team opt out or opt in for a DH based on how their line up is set for that game. For example if the team has a pitcher that can swing the bat well in their lineup, then let them hit.

    NL should adopt the DH. It just makes sense. Pitchers are worth more and more nowadays. Let them focus on pitching and let the DH add another offensive weapon to the lineup.

    I'm an internationalist, I was born in the USA. I have a love hate relationship in this. Baseball is one of these issues. My history goes back to the first mention of the game and an illustration from old England. A children's game. base ball. .. Bored and waitiing in encampments, soldiers on either side are seen playing baseball. The war over, the soldiers who excelled barnstormed, by 1869 an orhanized league exists. In 1876 the big money buys out the franchise and the National League is formed. What it is today, I don't recognize..

    I’m strongly disagree with having DH’s but I’m not stupid I see the writing on the wall universal DH is the future. Before we do that though I think we should experiment with an 8 man batting lineup and 9 fielders. It addresses some issues like it speeds up the game which is another complaint and 2 it keeps both league’s different which is what I like. AL teams still have to strategize in NL stadiums

    I'm a Mariners-fan, and - as much as I love players like Edgar Martinez, Nelson Cruz, and Luis Torrens - I would hate to see the DH made universal.
    Heck, I would love to see it only be used when the *visiting* team is AL, so I could experience a game without a DH at my home stadium if an NL team came to town.
    It stinks that I'll probably never see my pitchers forced to bat unless I travel to an interleague game at a NL ballpark.

    It should be a choice, if the Pitcher wants to hit, then let them hit, and if they don't want to be hit, have the DH
    I'm a 2 way player, and I switch hit, I love hitting just as much as Pitching. It should be my choice as the pitcher wether or not I want to hit or not.

    In cricket, the bowlers have to bat. some of them get high scores too. I don't think it is right to force the DH on the NL at all. It's good to have variety and encouraging subtle tactics.

    I like having the pitchers hitting in the NL. Not only do I love seeing a pitcher get a hit or hit a home run. I love the extra game planning it takes by an NL manager with stuff like double switches. And if you are a bench player you definitely want to be in the NL because there are so many more opportunities to pinch hit in a game then there are in the AL.

    Why not allow up to 9 DHs? - replace every "all glove no bat" player with an "all bat no glove can't run" player - cost the teams a small fortune but they do it in the NFL - a 53 man MLB roster - 9 on offense, 9 on defense; special teams would be players who only run the bases.
    Pretty much can't watch baseball at all anymore - got better things to do in those 4 hours (here in Red Sox land especially - let's play 5 - hours that is) but if given a choice it'd be NL all the way - actually having to manage the game - what a concept.

    Pitchers hitting isn’t boring at all. In fact it’s always exciting when they get their job done. Small ball driving in runs will always be better than games decided entirely by homers. The game can change while still remaining the same on a fundamental level. Every player hitting is about as fundamental as you can get.
    If players that are DH’s aren’t talented enough to play on the field… are they truly ball players?
