Dear Mr Coddington : My respect for the fantastic work you have done in presenting the multi faceted aspects of the Civil War of the United States. An admirer of your work from Puerto Rico.
It's so interesting that General Grant let Rebs pass back and forth. With some even asking permission to go because they were tired of war. That they would not rejoin the ranks. It goes to show the measure of the man I think. General Grant is my favorite General.
Would you please give me the a brief list of the best books on US Grant to begin to read about this man. With them in a ranking of order! Thank you. Love your RUclips channel.
Campaigning With Grant by Col. Horace Porter. This was written by a member of Grant's personal staff during the Civil War and gives an intimate glimpse of Grant in command.
I believe CSA General Buckner is the ancestor of U.S. Army Lieutenant General Buckner of World War II Fame. World War II General Buckner was commander of U.S. forces in the Okinawa invasion. He was the highest ranking American officer killed by enemy action in World War II.
From the son "Buckner furthermore objected to the deployment of African American troops in Alaska, writing to his superiors of his concern that they would remain after the war, "with the natural result that they would interbreed with the Indians and the Eskimos and produce an astonishingly objectionable race of mongrels which would be a problem"... Guess dad didn't share w/ him the value of the "Colored troops"
the pictures of Gen. Grant and Buckner. This is the first time I saw the style of uniform of Gen. Buckner. From the picture it looks like a dress. Can you elaborate more on this style of uniform? Thank you

Pillow? 'If I got him, I'd let him go again. He'd do us more good commanding you fellows." I'm laughing my ass off.

Personal Memoirs US Grant
Grant - Ron Chernow
Stay away from McFeeley. He hates Grant too much to be a bit objective.

I've read quite a few biographies of Grant. My favorite and, I feel, the best is:
"American Ulysses: A Life of Ulysses S. Grant" by Ronald C. White.
@@brucetelfeyan No argument here.

Yes sir. They were father and son.

@@scuffco1868Which Bucknor said this? The Lt. Gen or the CSA one?

The Civil War was well named. They were very civil to each other. Later in the war, not so much.
