My Huron-style snowshoes from 1976 are still in very good shape, but that’s a good recommendation about the varnish and I’ll do that as soon as they finish drying out from today’s walk. I have mukluks, same vintage.

Nice!! A testament to doing things right in the first place.

Hi we just bought a pair of Ojibway because we live in an area of dense forest and you can move in there easier where bear paws wouldn’t work.

Hey Tim, we met at the GBS in Alberta last spring, you sold me the trangia spare lid. My Huron snowshoes were made in 1958, and I've used them since I was 10 years old. I need to repair the babiche on one of them (broken and repaired with copper blasting wire since 1972, by the way) but I have spar varnished them, and they still look and work just fine. Best snowshoes I own, and I have two styles of modified bear paws too. Not much snow here in the Edmonton area, so I could do repairs until them. Now to order the repair babiche from you and fix those puppies. Thanks Tim!

One thing I have to say that you didn’t is that the Ojibway snowshoe when walking through dense tag alders splits the the bush with its pointy tips and personally I’ve found them to work better than the bear paws by far if you use a slightly undersized pair of them.

Same here .... i like the Ojibway shoes for that reason, parting the underbrush and reeds.

Great video. Very helpful. Thank you! Any ideas on what to use to maintain these instead of polyurethane? What would be a natural alternative?
