Before playing this show, they just got done recording that 10 song demo with Jack Endino at Reciprocal Recording. Of that demo, three tracks made it on to Bleach (Floyd The Barber, Papercuts & Downer-w/ Dale Crover not Chad Channing). Others ended up on Incesticide (Beeswax, Hairspray Queen, Mexican Seafood, etc...). Two tracks remained unreleased for sometime (If You Must & Pen Cap Chew) and Spank Thru ended up on the Sup Pop 200 compilation (1988).
Spank Thru was re-recorded with Chad and that's the one that was on Sub-Pop 200. The Dale version is the only one from that 10-song session that was never officially released.
Augustine Coronado actually he was 21 his b day is Feb 1967, cause I remember bleach was 89 but regardless I agree I mean anyone early 20`s doing this is inspiring
I've never heard this song at its intended length before. I have to say I think it's a blessing the tape cut out on the Reciprocal version, because it's better short. It's a shame it wasn't on Incesticide!
If my Nirvana knowledge serves me right, this is the only FULL recording of Pen Cap Chew. Reciprocal is cut off around 3:30 and if there are live performances I don’t think they play this duration towards the end.
I'm guessing it's Chad on drums? Cool bc it shows how they formed their sound. Chad does seem to leave a little more room for improv than Dave, but obviously isn't as tight. Still does a perfect job though.
@@halconamediassoh my god it was barely pop. It was still rock. Was it a bit less raw/rough? Sure. But the Only reason it’s called pop is because they got popular. IMO, all their tracks are phenomenal from bleach to in utero.
I am amazed this footage even exists. Thanks for posting.
Same here

Anorexorcist was also intended to be recorded that day, but they ran out of tape

The same exact day they recorded at Reciprocal
Wikipedia has this gig in March 1988, in which case the date above is a mistake (being the date of the Reciprocal studio session).

This concert was made the day they did the Incesticide recordings.
