I hope their new place works out well for Toms family. Sounds like they have some neat plans and room to grow for the future. Great job on “fork handling” those boulders to their new “forever” home. Blessings.
Nice work in getting the rocks moved. Rocks give landscape character, Many of the erratics we have around here are just a bit large to be moving. Balance Rock near Omak is one. It's amazing, some of the rocks are transported hundreds of miles.
It’s funny to me…I”m in MA and we’re surrounded by rocks smaller than this and much bigger…someone in my neighborhood has a boulder the size of their house in their front yard! Reminds me how different it is in different parts of the country. You’re helping people preserve and move their rocks…we pay people to get rid of them! :)
Thanks Guys. You probably would have been able to pick up the bigger rocks by taking off the forks and slinging directly under the Loader frame. Just have to be conscious of them being closer to the Tractor... I had a 2" piece of Pink foam board on Mine.
I grew up,raised my children and had a residential plumbing heating and electrical repair business for 44 years in the Lebanon area. I live east of Louisville now but return often to Lebanon. Swimming pools sound good on a hot summer day..
Just an idea on the larger rocks you could’ve used a tow strap around it an drug it over to the trailer then use the winch on the trailer to drag them up then dragged them off but really bobcat or luhll would’ve probably worked.
Great job moving the rocks! I had a couple big rocks that I wanted to bring from another property, but couldn't lift them high enough with my tractor to get them on the trailer.
I'm in Massachusetts and move large rocks all the time, with a little trick. You can "roll" the rocks end over end to get across a yard. You might even be able to run it right up the ramp of your trailer. I moved a 2,000 lb rock 150 feet across part of my yard going end over end with a 2038r and my bucket.
That Poor little Tractor got tortured. The Loader bucket HAS to be "Tweeked". The good thing about the 1,2,&3 series ( for the most cases,E series especially ) they are EXTREMELY "light" on their ability to Lift anthing with the Loader.( it saves the Tractor & the user). I am AMAZED they can lift "anthing"... The JD lift cylinders are so "rinky-dinky" small. The John-Deere's are the nicest looking Tractors out there. Remember: Easy does it. Sometimes ya just "NEED a Bigger Tractor".
I really liked the 3320 I had for 11 years, but ultimately wanted more lift capacity and got a cab Kioti DK4710. It has a good bit more capacity but I still find things that are too heavy.
I have loaded pallets of cut logs (about 16" length pieces by as much as 30" dia with four to six pieces on a pallet depending on the size of the pallet for splitting firewood) and could only get them up about a foot with my 2018 JD2025r gen2. So, I have my daughter lift up on the front of the pallet and it works to get it high enough to pull up next to the splitter. Then we only have to roll the cut logs onto the splitter and have at it. She says it make her feel like superwoman!!
I have used my 3033r to build natural retaining walls with rocks from my land I have on several occasions been able to roll the rocks when I couldn’t lift it
I can't believe that you, as the professional that you are, went out to a job like that without a weight bucket. I've moved trees, rocks, boulders, and cast iron salt vats, and have proved to myself time and again, that wheel weights and quick hitch is not enough rear weight. I need the weight bucket for any serious lifting with my 32 HP compact JD 4310.

I’m looking at doing about a 25’ - 30’ x 20’ - 25’ Water Feature in next couple - few months and looking for some nice “clean” rock as we speak! 😅 Everyone’s purpose is different! But if your dream is to have yours completely flat then DO IT!!!!! It’s you spending your life in that yard so do whatever it is that makes YOU comfortable / satisfied / feeling @ home / etc. I want LARGE PATCHES of grass but don’t want my entire 5 acres grass either! I love my trees! Even now looking back at it wish I didn’t cut AS MANY trees down! My Dad would always get on me about “cutting my (meaning his) trees down” 😅 He didn’t want me cutting any and I was going through there cutting out all the bad stuff! Pines, Poplars, & Sweet Gums.
Rear pallet forks lift more. You can lift from the tips of the forks and tilt to increase height. Roll the rock up the ramp. Phone a friend. You can do it!
We love our rocks too. He needs to piick them up every couple of years to keep them from sinking into the soil too far. I do that when I have mulch to throw under the rocks.
Tim, if you think of it next time you're lifting right at the limit, while pulling back on the bucket lever also lift up your 3 point. Both my New Hollands will give the bucket a boost and lift past that weight limit. I'm curious if it works on your Deere machines.
As farmer/farmkid it is sooo sad to see all that waste of farmland. :/ And I tought its bad in germany....but it does not seem to be better in the US either.:( Iam pretty sure you guys think the same way...
I recently rented a 3032r with loader and thought the tractor itself was wonderful. And after 3 days and 25 hrs later the only complaint I found myself having was the lack of hydraulic pressure to the loader. With a tractor that frame size the hydraulics were pitifully underpowered.
I bought a 3043D and it will not lift a tote of firewood. I have looked at purchasing larger lift cylinders from hydros plus but I don’t want to void my warranty. Tim what can you tell me about increasing the lift cylinder bore size ?
Given the massive development going in right next to your house, I wonder just how much they are gaining moving to that side of town. How long before a similar sized development lands next door to him? Interesting how we are all different. I have no interest in random rocks on my property.
People like rocks because they are unique and not found everywhere. I believe they can be costly to buy. I was wondering how you were going to get them off the trailer as you didn’t have the ground to dig into to get underneath them. I would’ve thought you would’ve set them on pallets on the trailer.

Never understood why John Deere uses less metal in their tractors which reduces fel weight capacity. I'm buying a Branson 36 HP ,5300 lb tractor with a fel capable of 2700 lbs max height. John Deere better get their compact tractors up to par with the competition, especially for the premium price they demand
@@TractorTimewithTim compact tractors is not their financial base. One million dollar tractors and combines is why John Deere is successful. I grew up with a love for John Deere but as far as compacts go I believe their are way better choices for a lot less money. This heavy work really is best done by a skid loader. Unlike a tractor a skid loader that is rated for 3000 lbs it will lift a 3000 lb pallet. A tractor not so much. A tractor rated for 1000 lbs will only lift that if it in the back of the bucket
Never seen someone so excited about rocks, especially when you let weeds and grass grow up and cover the rocks? Personally I ripped out every bush and obstacle in my yard so I can just mow and not worry about weed whacking and trimming. Time is money and short on both haha
Said u couldn't lift it on the trailer high enough. Why didn't u just drive it up the ramps on the trailer. That's what I do with my tractor when it won't lift high enough

One thing that makes rocks look more natural when placed, is to dig out the ground where you are going to place them first, before you set them
Anything you can up even couple of inches, you should be able to run up the ramp. Good luck

Check your excavator specs, it might be able to lift the big ones using straps and or chains.
