Bought a few tickets for $10 back in '85.......turned out to be a triple shot consisting of REO, Survivor, & Zebra !! Best money I've spent. Thanx for posting.
Yeah I know what you mean. I was a kid in the 80s and really noticed how the quality of music was so much better back then. No Pro Tools or Digi Design. Just talented musicians nailing it spot on every night. To me the 80s were a musical coming of age. I say bring it back!!
Epic records were going to boot them off the label after 10 mediocre album releases. Needing a break, self confessed folk lead singer Kevin Cronin wrote this after a restless night when his marriage of 10 years was on the rocks. Getting up one night and completing the song in the studio. The band didn't care for the song at all thinking it was far to 'soft' but in the end they went with the song. With Gary Richrath's (RIP) soaring guitar rift's, he brought the anger and anguish of the song. Hi Infidelity the album went to Number 1 in the charts spending 14 weeks in 1981.
Went to see these guys in concert around this time here in Cincinnati. They were one of, if not the best live bands I’ve ever watched. Gary was and always will be an influence on my playing.
It’s like Bruce and Gary were just chilling during this part of the show. This also has the best intro to this song and is by far the best live performance.
Saw twice on concert...Puerto Rico & Iowa (Iowa State...I went to college there in the 80's...yeah, I know major culture shock for a kid from PR)...along with Journey, one of the best to see live.
These guys are still one of the great old bands along with Styx and the rest who still perform these timeless classics. They just stick to you like glue because of the meaning and great harmonizing lyrics. Great up. Better than studio. Im actually going to be at their concert this coming saturday.
A true musician can create immortal lyrics, can play instruments and sings from the heart all the way to the lonely souls across the universe, hey kids this is true music!
I love Dave Amato, but you cant deny the vocal harmonization of the Cronin/Hall/Gratzer combination. Wow, it's so rich here as opposed to the more recent performances. Just incredible! Probably the best live performance of this on youtube yet.
i can just picture a ENORMOUSLY great friend of mine watching this!!! hope he sees this comment and like magic, a knight in shinning armour comes and rescues me. In my wildest dreams....best songs are always the old ones...
Lol----my 1st concert ever!!!! I was 14, got lucky that night and still do whenever I play this song!!!! A classic!!!!! Any Last American Virgin movie fans???
G'day from Australia. I'm lucky enough to have been 'around' when REO was emerging, and, let me tell you, it WAS EXCITING!. Check out the visuals, no post-production editing, re-mixing and so-on, just PURE quality, gotta love it!. As for "no one from my generation listens to this", don't sweat it, just keep on loving it, and let this fabulous music be our little secret, if 'they' have no interest, then that's 'their' great loss. Welcome to the club.
MTV 1981 - 1984 WILL NEVER BE TAKEN AWAY FROM ME. The simple on stage live,or on stage faked or with the band acting is so precious !!!💪💪💪✌✌✌✌✌✊✊✊🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘👍👍👍👍👍👍
I can't belive I found this video after 34 years after it was shut off in front of my face in a group home in Carlsbad California. Wow! Found it by mistake
This was the most overplayed song on the radio when it came out in 81..I think..anyway they played it so much that it was a very hated song at the time. But now, all these years later it stands up as one of the best rock ballad/lovesongs of the day...thanks for posting it.
@@stevenfifield7667 The band kind of spoke to this around the time when Kevin Cronin joined the band. They said something about him not having the good looks a frontman should / would usually have, but damn was he born to be a music man.
Out of all the rock artists from the 80's only 4 people can sound as good maybe better live than in the studio. 1) Freddie Mercury (Queen) 2) Phil Collins 3) Jimi Jamison (Survivor) 4) Kevin Cronin (REO Speedwagon)
1981 Philadelphia, Pa. @ The Spectrum!! Great concert!!! Hey kids, look and listen. No backing tracks!! Live vocals and instruments. They call that musicianship and talent.
love it! isn't it great to still have these beautiful songs to listen to?it reminds me of ''someone so special''. even though, we only had a few years together, they were wonderful. he died in 1990. i miss him to this day. love ya. love, susie q
i^ve spent lot of times listening to their music, and until now i ll never get tired listening to it again and again and again....and again,.......and again...
I want to see these guys live at least once. I have seen REM, and they were absolutely amazing. Now I need to see REO, U2, Phil Collins, and the other oldies that absolutely rock. It sucks being born in 1987, all the good music was from the 70's and 80's.... At least I have an amazing record collection comprising of more than 300 33's, and 1 or 2 45's.
In 1969 REO Speedwagon played at the Gauntlet in Carbondale IL SIU.........that was the beginning....heard them several times, disco ball and all at the Gauntlet....I think they also played In Charleston IL at EIU at "Rocks" might have played at The Crystal In Effingham too........Lots of places in Champaign ,,this band is the best!!!
What a absolute DREAM and BLESSING it must be , to be a singer in a band where every person can play their instrument just like the record every night. Unfortunately i sang lead vocals in a band that the guys couldn't remotely do that.
I have recorded an LP of REO from radio approx 30 years ago behind the Iron Curtain (there were no copy rights in Communism!) in Hungary. Never saw them but this LP (with this song) became one of my all time favourites! Nice to see finally the faces behind this great song!
1981- I was 20 year old, and this song was at every party and club we went to, fantastic song, fantastic band, fantastic times.
Man, 1981, where have the years gone?
I’m jealous. Wish I was born and lived through that incredible era

Yeah I know what you mean.

One of the best love songs. But this live version is even better. The intro is magic

Went to see these guys in concert around this time here in Cincinnati. They were one of, if not the best live bands I’ve ever watched. Gary was and always will be an influence on my playing.
Might be the best live performance of anyone, timed perfectly
I love heavy and death metal... and this song will always ROCK harder!
I don't.. (blech.) But this band rocks. Love most of their songs
I really like the 80's songs.
This one is of my favorites.
Unfortunately I wasn't even born in the 80's so I missed many good songs.
Same boat as you. I have over 500 songs on my 80s playlist
Speedwagon is the shiznit! Love these guys...they've still got it!
It’s like Bruce and Gary were just chilling during this part of the show. This also has the best intro to this song and is by far the best live performance.
I saw them live back in '85 at Tallahassee Civic Center with my cousin...
What a great night out!!!
